To want to ask, if you had your time again, and your dc were back at reception of primary school, how involved with other parents would you get ?

Honestly don't sweat it. Just be pleasant, let things develop naturally but don't worry if they don't. Don't say anything negative about anyone even if someone else does and don't get involved with school politics from the playground and you will be fine.
If you don't make friends, don't worry, your kids will be in secondary school before you know it and you won't see anyone!
