To not let mil babysit as she has a rash

Mil has said that she has a horrid rash on her neck since she got back from her holiday. She said that it's incredibly irritating and blistering and she "might" go to see the GP about it.

She's asked to have dd tomorrow (2yo) to play and look after and I'm also 40+2. Would it be bad form for me to say until she gets confirmation it's not some horrendous catchable illness I don't want her to have dd tomorrow?

She's been to work with it and she said (as far as she is aware) nobody else has developed it, she also had it last week but I didn't see her (dh dropped off dd). I'm probably being precious but I don't fancy getting something itchy and rashy before giving birth and bringing a newborn home.

Nah I wouldn't risk it either

Boring12 · 04/07/2017 11:30

I'd stay away, could be shingles.

Jaynesworld · 04/07/2017 11:33

No way would I risk it

DearMrDilkington · 04/07/2017 11:33

You sure she just hasn't had a weird reaction from a mozzie bite?

user1483894636 · 04/07/2017 11:33

Oh god. I've already managed to avoid shingles with my dd once this pregnancy.

She keeps saying it's nothing and it's not infectious (but doesn't know what it is Hmm)Think I'll have to speak to dh and get him to intervene. She doesn't seem to want to listen to me

It sounds like shingles. Ask her if it follows in a line or pattern.

user1483894636 · 04/07/2017 11:34

@DearMrDilkington don't know. I've not seen it and she described it as blistering under the skin?

She got it whilst on a cruise (got back last week)

As long as you've had chicken pox it doesn't matter if it is shingles.
However if your dd hasn't had chicken pox she could catch it from the shingles and pass it to her newborn sibling.
Strangely my mum has had a similar rash on her neck and face and it seems to be brought out by the son. The dr gave her antibiotics and an antibiotic cream. he told her it was contagious by direct contact and would stop being so after about 48 hours of antibiotics so your MiL should get checked.

Placeanditspatrons · 04/07/2017 11:37

sun my autocorrect let me down!!!!!

user1483894636 · 04/07/2017 11:39

Thanks @Placeanditspatrons yes it's more my daughter being exposed and then exposing the baby that concerns me. She said it's gone down today but still hasn't been to the gp.

Find out what is first

user1483894636 · 04/07/2017 11:44

She won't go to the GP

Placeanditspatrons · 04/07/2017 11:47

She may have to if it doesn't go away on its own.
My mum found hers got gradually worse and spread to a bigger area.

No diagnosis. No children

luckylucky24 · 04/07/2017 12:00

Keep her away. Is she meant to be having DD whilst you are in labour? If so, can you tell her you will be looking for alternative care?

user1483894636 · 04/07/2017 12:00

Husband is phoning her. I can't believe the flippancy of her.

She said that it feels like sunburn and it's itchy. She's had it about a week.

She said she'll make an appointment with the GP for tomorrow and dh is going to call her when he's home from work.

GreenHillsOfHome · 04/07/2017 12:07

Yanbu...if it's shingles the last thing you want is her giving the virus to your 2 year old who then gets chickenpox and passes it to a baby. I wouldn't want her anyway near.

user1483894636 · 05/07/2017 15:11

Apparently it was a reaction to suncream according to gp. Been given steroid cream and tablets.

Mil not amused with me but fuck it. My children, my decision. Thanks for the advice everybody. I really appreciate that you made me feel I wasn't being a drama queen Smile

This is the woman who would pick up dd from dh. Then when dropping her back off casually mention her "horrendous bronchitis" or several stomach bug that kept her off work that week. Hmm
