AIBU questions re booking

AIBU? Or simply neurotic/paranoid?

I've booked a holiday for myself, toddler and my mum in September (H has ran out of annual leave!)

We were struggling to find 2 bed accommodation within our budget so looked at properties on HomeAway. Found the perfect property to stay in had 5 reviews all of which are good. Contacted the owner with food contact. Except when he asked me something which has now got my back up. We are going to Portugal. This is the snippet:

Me: Do you provide a cot at all or will I need to bring one?

Him: of course, how old is your son?

Me: Thank you that's great. My daughter is 2. Is it a travel cot or solid wood one (I only ask as it means I will bring different bed sheets

Him: it is a travel cot. D'ont worry with bed sheets. This my responsability.
Note: When you say 2, you mean 2 years, not 2 months, right?

Me: Ok, lovely, 2 years yes. How come?

Him: Nothing special. I asked for no special reason.
Congratulations to you.

It's just made me feel a bit weird, why do they want to know? I'm a very anxious person and being that we are off to Portugal I think even more about these things. Am I being totally psycho or am I right to feel like this?

Thank you

You are overthinking this.

Brittbugs80 · 03/07/2017 12:52

Could be asking so he can his neighbours know if there was a crying 2 month old going to be staying?

Could be making sure sheets/cot was suitable for a 2 year old?

Apartment might not be safe for a baby but ok for a toddler?

Abra1d · 03/07/2017 12:52

He probably wanted to make sure that the cot was the right size, that is all.

Urubu · 03/07/2017 12:53

Maybe the travel cotnis not suitable for a newborn for whatever reason.
I wouldn't worry about it, but curious to see what others think.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/07/2017 12:54

Maybe the language barrier. If the host is Portuguese, they may write English in a different style to a native speaker, or have used google translate for help.

JustMumNowNotMe · 03/07/2017 12:55

Is this because its Portugal?! The whole Maddie thing?! Confused Not sure whyelse you would feel it necessary to say its Portugal?

Nassively overthinking!

Elphame · 03/07/2017 12:57

I'd ask too. I'd want to know so I'm prepared. For example I wouldn't pre-fit the stair gates for a 2 month old baby but I would for a 2 year old toddler. I also allow an extra 30 minutes cleaning time for bookings that have toddlers attached.

CheesesOfNazereth · 03/07/2017 12:57

He's checking because most 2 year olds probably aren't in cots and he's wondering about what size is needed.
I have no idea what you are complaining about.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/07/2017 12:59

Maybe he wants to provide toddler cutlery and plates that wouldn't be necessary for an infant?

GreenGoblin0 · 03/07/2017 13:06

You AIBU and totally paranoid.

jerrysbellyhangslikejelly · 03/07/2017 13:08

You are way overthinking this!

RiversrunWoodville · 03/07/2017 13:08

For a 2 month old most places would provide a crib or Moses basket but a 2 year old would need a travel cot then refuse to sleep in it and take over our bed

Cocklodger · 03/07/2017 13:08

It's obviously so he can sell your details to sex traffickers isn't it Hmm
This wouldn't even enter my head as weird

bimbobaggins · 03/07/2017 13:09

Yes , you are being totally unreasonable. I have read your op multiple times and struggle to find any issue. He is asking if the child is 2 months or 2 years fgs what did the police say when you logged it?

skyzumarubble · 03/07/2017 13:10

What do you actually think is weird about that?

vroc81 · 03/07/2017 13:14

I'm reading this in Portugal where everyone has been very accommodating - our airbnb host wanted to check the babies age so they could lower the side far enough (proper cot not travel cot) for a moving toddler not high for a stationary baby...

You're thinking too much..!

VeryButchyRestingFace · 03/07/2017 13:17

I'm a very anxious person and being that we are off to Portugal I think even more about these things

Purlease do not be thinking what I think you're thinking.

He writes like a non native, imo.

monkeywithacowface · 03/07/2017 13:20

I'm not sure why any of that exchange would make you anxious?

Dixiechickonhols · 03/07/2017 13:20

I'd assume not English first language and checking for suitable not wierd. Maybe one he has is 6 months plus etc My dd didn't fit in mothercare travel cot age 18 months (recall 3 of us in a tiny double bed at a wedding)

RoseVase2010 · 03/07/2017 13:21

Being in Portugal they may be Portugese and so English may not be their first language.

Speaking as someone who has just spend four days saying thank you in Spanish whilst in Italy, a second language isn't easy to grasp.

monkeywithacowface · 03/07/2017 13:22

Oh for gods sakes very butch's post has just made it click. Get a grip OP

Homebirdmama · 03/07/2017 13:26

Ladies, yes some of you have probably cottoned on to what you think I'm thinking. I probably didn't express my real concerns properly (worried of looking like a total nut case!) I do suffer from anxiety please keep that in mind, I don't think logically like a lot of you!

runs and hides

Come off it Hmm

Okay, so you're worried that your kid is being fitted-for-size by a Portgugese baby farming racket.

Overlooking the very obvious unlikelihood of this being the case,

It seems your host has an established footprint on HomeAway. Has he been doing it a while? Have families stayed there before? Among the positive reviews, has anyone mentioned their offspring going missing?
