AIBU questions re booking

AIBU? Or simply neurotic/paranoid?

I've booked a holiday for myself, toddler and my mum in September (H has ran out of annual leave!)

We were struggling to find 2 bed accommodation within our budget so looked at properties on HomeAway. Found the perfect property to stay in had 5 reviews all of which are good. Contacted the owner with food contact. Except when he asked me something which has now got my back up. We are going to Portugal. This is the snippet:

Me: Do you provide a cot at all or will I need to bring one?

Him: of course, how old is your son?

Me: Thank you that's great. My daughter is 2. Is it a travel cot or solid wood one (I only ask as it means I will bring different bed sheets

Him: it is a travel cot. D'ont worry with bed sheets. This my responsability.
Note: When you say 2, you mean 2 years, not 2 months, right?

Me: Ok, lovely, 2 years yes. How come?

Him: Nothing special. I asked for no special reason.
Congratulations to you.

It's just made me feel a bit weird, why do they want to know? I'm a very anxious person and being that we are off to Portugal I think even more about these things. Am I being totally psycho or am I right to feel like this?

Thank you

I mean this kindly, but you really do need to go and see a GP, because that's not a normal reciting to a Portuguese landlord asking what age your child is.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/07/2017 13:59

That is a rather disturbing over-reaction. How recently have you been diagnosed with anxiety? - is it worth going back to the GP to discuss again?

MadMags · 03/07/2017 14:02

You need to see someone about that.

Anxiety seems to be quite the buzz word lately.

But, if you're asking if we think this man is looking to assualt or kidnap your child based on him confirming details then, no, I can't imagine he is.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 03/07/2017 14:02

Oh wow, yes that is a completely normal question. we've been to many villas and always had to give the ages of children.

Peppapogstillonaloop · 03/07/2017 14:03

That is the most innocuous non event of a booking enquiry response ever. Massive over reaction. If you are not already you should see somebody about your anxiety.

Ahickiefromkinickie · 03/07/2017 14:29

Anxiety dies Norbert give you an excuse to be offensive to a whole country.

YABU. And a bit of a dick.

Ahickiefromkinickie · 03/07/2017 14:30

*does not

SeagullsStoleMyChurro · 03/07/2017 14:32

You're being totally irrational, you know. I mean this kindly!

StarCrossdSkys · 03/07/2017 14:38

He's probably just wondering. In my experience of holidaying in Portugal babies and toddlers get a lot of attention everywhere you go. It's very family friendly.

Good grief.
