That Bleu is not a common American name?

That we do have required biology lessons. (Obviously)

Baby showers were never meant to be massive affairs with enterence fees and that I never heard of such a thing before MN. Your mate threw a party, invited your other friends, you ate brownies and were given diapers artfully formed in to a cake.

We also didn't invent "destination weddings" if we did had done, no one would go as we get far less time off than you do. It's also the reason many Americans don't have a passport, nothing to with America being too awesome to bother leaving.

Only a third of us have guns.

I was never taught creationalism in school. It is illegal to mix church and state and we I never took any form of RE. We do not have state funded religious schools. Your nearest school will be a non religious state school.

Any Americans have anything else to add?

OP - how will you feel when your President visits London and is met with masses of protesters? Will you take that personally too?

isupposeitsverynice · 03/07/2017 11:39

Wahey! I'll get me coat Grin

SuperBeagle · 03/07/2017 11:40

Beyoncé's kid is Blue Ivy.

badabing36 · 03/07/2017 11:40

I thought it was blue ivy- no idea now.

WorraLiberty · 03/07/2017 11:40

'Sir'? 'Bleu'?

Either I'm in another universe, or I need to pay more attention to MN threads Confused

Never in a million years would I have thought anyone would think they are common names??

badabing36 · 03/07/2017 11:42

Oops cross posted with everyone.

PratStick · 03/07/2017 11:42

I will be there washing as he is a bell end and I did not vote for him. Protesting a government is not the same as slating individuals and their culture.

Canadians have as many guns per head as their southern cousins do

There is far more to gun crime than just guns

The preponderance of guns helps, but it is really simplistic to pretend it's only that

PaulAnkaTheDog · 03/07/2017 11:42

They don't Worra, nor is any of the other stuff the op mentions said regularly. Except for baby showers. Which are American.

PratStick · 03/07/2017 11:42

Worra, Sir may or may not be the name of the next heir to the Beyoncé dynasty.

I think every nation gets sterotypes don't they? None more so than Britain. i think you need to unclench a bit.

I absolutely love America so I hope you have a great 4 July OP

UncontrolledImmigrant · 03/07/2017 11:47

OP there is nothing but nothing that brits love so much as the opportunity to feel superior to someone else- you'd have to pry it from their cold, dead hands so to speak

A stereotype, sure, but an accurate one Wink

WorraLiberty · 03/07/2017 11:48

Thanks Paul, I honestly thought I'd logged in to the wrong website Grin

If all this 'Bleu' and 'Sir' stuff is to do with Beyoncé, that'll be why I don't know anything about it. I've never really taken much interest in celebs.

But I still don't see how the OP has taken the leap from people being interested in celebrity children's names, and everyone thinking they're really common in America.

I thought it was the trend for Americans to pick unusual names Confused

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 03/07/2017 11:51

only a third of us have guns
That's fine then now you've enlightened all us incredibly thick Brits. That'll make it OK the next time one of them guns down a classroom of five year olds. hmm

I'm not sure how you got from "most Americans don't want guns'' to that but, good for you.

Petulantly stating all the trivial issues you're annoyed with Brits about, and then whacking 'And anyway, only a third of us have guns', on the end of it, as if that has any relevance whatsoever to the appalling amount of gun crime you have, is the reason is made my comments.

If I lived in the USA at the moment I certainly wouldn't be coming on here ranting in the tone you've used.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 03/07/2017 11:51

Halloween isn't thought of as an American holiday - but it has always been a relatively sedate affair at this side of the pond (maybe a little trick or treating and the occasional kid's party with some apple bobbing and pumpkin carving) - in the US it seems to have grown into something tantamount to Christmas!

And the "only 1/3 own a gun" is nothing at all to be proud of.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 03/07/2017 11:53

Actually, maybe you've done them a favour, OP- look at them frothing away. You've given them the greatest gift anyone can give a Brit- rightoeus indignation coupled to a a stonking great sense of superiority

It must be like Christmas for them

ShockGrin

washinggotdarkedon · 03/07/2017 11:54

I will be there washing as he is a bell end and I did not vote for him. Protesting a government is not the same as slating individuals and their culture

Good to hear that, OP, as I did wonder how Americans would feel about their President getting a hostile reception.

PantPlot · 03/07/2017 11:55

Is Bleu a typo for Blue then?

And sheesh, I know it's the exact opppsite of the point the OP was trying to make, but the thought of one in three people owning at least one gun is ...staggering

UncontrolledImmigrant · 03/07/2017 11:55

sure, they seem vexed, but this is as happy as they get

WorraLiberty · 03/07/2017 11:58

UncontrolledImmigrant are you just going to hang around the thread, taking cheap shots at Brits, or are you going to add anything of substance?

I think uncontrolled is making my previous point for me

nocoolnamesleft · 03/07/2017 12:00

1)If I were taking the mickey out of US names I'd go with Randy, or Candida...though I believe neither is common
2)Do the biology lessons include evolution?

3)But you do concede the US invented baby showers - I believe the UK sadly went with how they were portrayed on the screen. Blame Hollywood.
4)Give you that one - how could a nation known for the relatively low proportion of the population with passports be considered to blame for flying round the world for weddings?!
5)Only? Only?!?!?!!? And let's bear in mind the type of guns, fucking military grade semi automatic shit that is designed to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible.

6)Not really convinced that the separation of church and state is truly honoured in the breach. At least we're honest about the ties between the two. And still don't go round ending every political speech with "And gawd bless the United Kingdom".

BoneStripped · 03/07/2017 12:06

It's not often the opportunity presents itself but, having been annoyed by it on several US based forums over the years, I would like to point out that it's 'blue cheese', or 'fromage bleu', not 'bleu cheese'. Thank you.
