Roughly speaking! The traffic in my town is gridlocked at peak times and 10 minute journeys can take anything up to 2 hours.

Yet new houses are constantly being built Confused

How do other towns cope with this? It's actually making me miserable.

I've used my ortleib panniers to "float" my bike across a swollen river - they are beyond waterproof!

I've had mine since 2005 and they are still great; they do the daily commute and have been on rough and rugged cycle camping holidays all over the world.

Plenty of places do a Cycle to Work scheme, which allows you to buy a bike without paying tax. Accessories like the brilliant Ortlieb panniers that rightsaid mentions were included in my scheme.

I am always amazed by the number of people who drive to work and then drive to the gym after work (and pay a fortune for membership). Also, by distance perception. Contrary to what appears to be the prevailing popular belief, for healthy, able-bodied people, a 3 mile walk isn't far at all. It's great for your physical and mental health, too.

My town is like this and it's set to get worse with lots of housing development planned and no improvements to local infrastructure.

I walk my DCs to school. Parking around the school is dire and so walking is less stressful and it also means we all get some excercise. YY to PPs who've noticed how daft people are who pay a fortune for gym membership but refuse to walk anywhere and don't have time to go because they're always stuck in traffic. Confused
