Why do people keep putting bloody kisses in their posts?

WomblingThree · 02/07/2017 22:26

There seems to be a spate of it at the moment. Kisses at the end of posts, kisses littered throughout posts, using u and ur instead of you and your/you're.

It's so irritating! Kisses should be save for people you know and care about.

BigFatGoalie · 03/07/2017 07:56

Agree soupdragon, equally as bad.
Makes me a bit stabby.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 03/07/2017 07:58

I quite like it myself.
Shitty things are happening everywhere. It's nice to spread a bit of love. XxX

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 03/07/2017 08:02

My mum writes lol after every single message, on FB etc. She thinks it's Lots Of Love.
So we get
"I've had to take the dog to the vets, he's not well at all Lol"

"Auntie Betty has had a nasty fall. She's in A&E, lol"

It makes me laugh.

Doesn't irritate me as much on here as it does on Facebook e.g. putting a kiss on the end of a post to the bloody local newspaper....lots of people seem to think it's the way to end a post, I've always preferred a full stop.

Allabitmuchisntit · 03/07/2017 08:47

Because its not hurting anyone and people can compose a post how they want to.

How should a post be written? What's ok and not annoying? Just so we all know xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oysterbabe · 03/07/2017 08:50

😙

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/07/2017 08:55

I know I'm a grumpy old trout (at age 33), but yes, this makes my teeth itch a bit. I accept it's my problem though. I can live with that!

TwitterQueen1 · 03/07/2017 08:57

At least we don't yet have (to my knowledge) "I'm so proud of you for xyz....

A relative posted this on FB recently about my DCs voting... WTF? What next? "I'm so proud of you for wiping your arse this morning???

Drives me mad. (As well as all the 'huns, lols, xxxx' etc etc

Augustbabyyeah · 03/07/2017 08:59

I put them if someone posts that they are ill, anxious or upset. xx

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/07/2017 09:37

Don't start me on the lols after every bloody sentence!

BayLeaves · 03/07/2017 09:51

I can't get annoyed about this. It's generally going to be posters who are new to MN and not used to the posting style of the site. I wouldn't want to judge people on the way they compose messages (unless it's really terrible spelling and grammar, but even then they could be dyslexic or not native English speakers). It feels a bit like judging someone based on their accent or their mannerisms, which seems cruel.

WomblingThree · 03/07/2017 12:17

I guess I don't see it as judgemental to be irritated by things. I'm not judging you because I don't know you.

People post petty irritations on here a thousand times a day. Some I agree with, some I think are funny and some I probably do in real life, but I don't think they are judging me, because they have no idea who I am beyond words on a screen.

I save actual judgement for things that are actually wrong like hurting children or animals, rather than kisses or parking spaces or MILs.

Lots of posters have a hubby too...

MayDupp · 03/07/2017 12:23

What bothers me is when I see them on things like Facebook statuses.
'I'm sick of my job, my boss is a dickhead and my life is shite' xxxxxxxxxxx

Just...what?

Plus when those people add kisses to a text or PM, it always seems so insincere when they add them to everything.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 03/07/2017 12:59

I have a strong, regional accent btw. I still don't want to send virtual kisses to strangers on the internet though. I don't see how it's remotely the same thing.

I'd be pretty annoyed if someone judged me for my accent, but then I'd probably assume such a person was a bigoted asshole.

Random kisses and lols in text is completely different, though I wouldn't say I judge the people who do it. I just find it irksome.

PNGirl · 03/07/2017 13:08

I think it annoys me because it does when friends and relatives do it. Not at the end, but in the middle. E.g "What time will you be here xx Have put the kettle on xx see you soon xxx"

Vereesa · 03/07/2017 13:10

x mwah!

Neome · 03/07/2017 13:16

Is the mumsnet bloody kiss emoticon about to be born? A red X? Or something more gory? +x=

silkpyjamasallday · 03/07/2017 14:15

The kisses all over the place are pretty bad, but it's the (((hugs))) that is far far more irritating. I do accept however that I have a rather low irritation threshold. Grin

BlurryFace · 03/07/2017 14:16

It's pretty easy to do by accident of you're always texting friends/DP, I nearly sent xxx to my driving instructor the other day!

BlurryFace · 03/07/2017 14:17

If

BloodWorries · 03/07/2017 14:31

I find it amusing the amount of "un-mumsnetty hugs" that are offered on this site! Are they somehow different to the mumsnetty hugs which I never see offered? Or are mumsnetty hugs just the "hugs" or the hugs surrounded by loads of brackets.
Similar to those posters who always seem to be saying, "I never say LTB, but you really do need to LTB". I always half wonder how many times they say that, because if you look at more than a handful of thread in relationships then you can easily say LTB and 100% mean it.

But yeah kisses, and huns, and loves and all that bull shit. I know quite a few people who text with all that 'love' in, but actually never once heard them call anyone hun in real life, and never so much as had a pat on the back of them never mind the hundreds of "xxx" received on every single text. What's wrong with signing off with "chat later", "see you soon", "have a good one" or heck even the old fashioned "bye".
But then I end up doing the same, because otherwise I feel like I'm being antisocial, and maybe that's why people don't like me.
