Why do people keep putting bloody kisses in their posts?

WomblingThree · 02/07/2017 22:26

There seems to be a spate of it at the moment. Kisses at the end of posts, kisses littered throughout posts, using u and ur instead of you and your/you're.

It's so irritating! Kisses should be save for people you know and care about.

People are putting "mwah" in their posts?!

ethelfleda · 02/07/2017 23:14

YANBU. It also irritates me when people do that on Facebook posts. Especially the random as he'll Facebook updates people put up

"On way to caravan xx"

I'm sure that was actually meant to be a text?!

BlackadderBells · 02/07/2017 23:15

Think you are going to be deluged with kisses now OP

raspberry not just my issue then Grin

WomblingThree · 02/07/2017 23:19

Yes I think it's the randomness that irritates me more than anything. If you are answering a post about washing up or mowing the lawn, why does it need kisses?

I think I've seen "hun" creeping in too 😥. I haven't noticed "mwah" thank god.

I do it without thinking, it annoys me that I have done it, ha ha

AnnieOH1 · 02/07/2017 23:21

I always do it as I'm conscious that speech and text are two very different things and I want to try to assure whoever is reading that I'm being sincere not blunt, direct but not sarcastic. Hope that makes sense. xxx

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 02/07/2017 23:24

Maybe MN needs an enema.

Or an exorcism.

80sMum · 02/07/2017 23:29

I too find it irksome and I think it looks a little silly and schoolgirlish, unless the person is someone you know very well or is family. I suppose people do it to somehow convey friendliness?

I used to put a little x at the end of emails or messages sent to DS. He asked me to desist, so I did - but I still put them in family birthday cards!

DimplesToadfoot · 02/07/2017 23:30

A friend once sent me a picture of a stray dog she had picked up, asking me what breed I thought it was

I replied "its a collie x"

so friend went off telling everyone I had said it was a full collie where as she knew it wasn't and I was being dumb blah de blah especially as I had a collie myself, it really caused quite a pavlova between us .. I scratched my head, wtf was she on about, until I realised, as far as my friend was concerned I had text her "its a collie, kiss" where as I had meant "its a collie cross"
makes me chuckle when I think about it, I make sure to try not to be 'x's in any situation now

I always end my sentences with lol .. a habit I desperately try to break, it was easier to stop biting my nails :-/

vikingprincess81 · 03/07/2017 00:32

passthewineplz · 03/07/2017 00:38

What I really hate x is when people x randomly put x kisses in the middle x of sentences! xx

Clandestino · 03/07/2017 05:08

u ok hun? xoxo

TupperwareTat · 03/07/2017 05:16

Awwwww

LOL

oxo

redcarbluecar · 03/07/2017 06:07

It grates on me a bit too but I think it's just a way to end a message and force of habit- when we 'write' to someone we're used to signing off and it can feel odd just to suddenly end.

I do like the use of the kiss as a passive aggressive tool e.g. You're wrong and need help hun xxx Are you sure this is worth complaining about, babes? xxx

Dragonflycushion · 03/07/2017 06:14

I can't decide whether xx or a deranged !!! is worse.

Nikephorus · 03/07/2017 07:14

I can't understand why anyone would use them except to family or friends where you actively want to send them love. Plonking them on normal texts or emails seems crackers and makes them meaningless when you do really want someone to know you care. I had them on an email from a client once - I was Hmm. She was nice but not that nice...

BigFatGoalie · 03/07/2017 07:20

Oh don't get me started...
Read a thread recently where on EVERY SINGLE post the OP wrote, she added "lol".
Apparently her life is bloody hilarious....
Hmm

user1495025590 · 03/07/2017 07:23

It is sometimes difficult to convey tone in a text, so I guess it is a way of softening a message and showing relationsare still good.
On the other hand I feel the op telling people what they can and cannot post , on a website she doesnt own, intensely irritating

HardcoreLadyType · 03/07/2017 07:31

Putting x at the end of a text is no different to signing off a letter "yours sincerely", or an email "kind regards".

How many work related people do you really regard kindly? You're just saying it because it's the polite convention.

MN is different, though. It does seem weird to put kisses in a MN post, unless it's apparent they are meant for someone in particular.

SoupDragon · 03/07/2017 07:33

I think that in some circles it means lots of love.

Which, to be fair, is not any better.

Branleuse · 03/07/2017 07:40

i sometimes put kisses out of habit. I have to be really careful when writing text messages to people such as the plumber

Onthehighseas · 03/07/2017 07:45

Can't be doing with it - kisses are saved for DD and no-one else (not even DH).

Love the comment up-thread about kisses causing a pavlova. I have long hoped something I did would cause a pavlova, but no luck so far Grin

Pouffealouffe · 03/07/2017 07:48

Totally agree OP! I don't get it, and was tempted to start a thread about it too. But I thought perhaps I was BU because I've lived abroad for a long time where kisses aren't used as much.
