To be really worried I have 3 points and a fine on the way?

I'll explain as best I can so apologies if it's long. I'm an overthinker and getting cbt for that precise reason. I'm a new driver and whilst points at any time aren't good, points in the 1st 2 years could lead to having to resit tests etc (understandably so, if the driving is bad!)

The other morning I was driving on an unfamiliar road, the road was wet as it had been raining earlier. Its a busy road into a city but not too busy when I was driving.

Lots of traffic lights and I'm normally pretty good at anticipating when they've been green for a while.

Approached a set of lights on green, travelling at about 25mph in a 30 limit with a car up my rear end. As my car gets about 1 - 2ft over the stop line it changed to amber. There's a fairly large box junction with yellow hatching so as I was already slightly over the stop line, I proceeded. There was nothing blocking my exit on other side of box. As I'm just about to clear the box I come about level with the next set of lights (not sure the technical name. The one's that are linked to the lights at the stop line but set on the far side of junction) and they turn red.

I've now found out that this particular junction has red light camera.

Am I likely to get a ticket?? I'm not even sure if it's my side/other side/both sides that the camera is on. I drove the same road again today and the only camera my passenger could see was in a central island, angled slightly down, but not in the direction I was driving. Do these cameras take front shots? I don't even know what they look like.

I feel really stupid. (And yes, I take on board all advice about slowing down approaching lights etc. This is the first time I've felt unsure about a driving decision)

Nope not London! I'd be horrendous in London. Doesn't sound like much fun driving there! I absolutely love driving. I'm down in Devon. It's a new car so I'm getting used to it still and hadn't had it on a wet road before. Decided to just go for a little drive round local area to get a feel for it on wet roads, where I know its quiet. No idea why I decided to head home on that busy road!

I'm pretty confident there was no flash!

I'd spent the entire mile long road with this car up my behind! On hill starts at lights and everything. I have p plates just till I'm fully confident in new car so goodness knows why they were so keen to be so near me. Maybe they just liked my shiny car lol

Both myself and passenger are 100% on how I explained with the line/amber, box junction red light thing so fingers crossed.

Are flashes really obvious even if you're concentrating on the road ahead?

Sounds ok to me. 🤞🏻

Some of you need to read the original post a bit better.

She went over the stop line (a couple of feet over) when the light was green, not amber. The box junction was clear so she drove straight across. The lights didn't go red until she was nearly clear of the box junction, way beyond the stop line.

There is no need to cross fingers or to worry about a box junction fine. She has done nothing even a tiny bit wrong.

I did read the post. Trickier without a diagram.

It was the statement - "As I'm just about to clear the box". It seemed to imply that OP had to then stop in the yellow box junction. But luckily not London.

EastMidsMummy · 02/07/2017 17:27

She didn't have to stop. There was nothing in the box junction. And there is a diagram.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/07/2017 17:46

OP, you don't need to anticipate how long a light has been green! if it's green and the hatch is clear to cross then you are ok to proceed.

upsidedownfrown · 03/07/2017 07:21

Just to clarify, the box was clear, I was driving under the limit at road was wet, the box is HUGE so even though I carried on driving, I was only just getting to the other side of the box (where the 2nd just for info lights are) as it turned red.

I'm not worried anymore though. Have thought rationally, calmed down and stopped being paranoid about it.
