To think is hugely disrespectful to the LGBT community to turn up to a gay pride parade and do this?

Won't say who but someone we know and her husband have gone to a gay pride parade today with the husband dressed as a woman.
Obviously if you're there to support people that's really great, however this couple do not support the LGBT community and often make jokes about them once pointing out 3 men talking in a park and saying "look Cham I bet they're gay, do you think they have threesomes?! Haha!" And making regular comments when they see any one who is clearly from the LGBT community about how it's not natural and how they need help or how they are "attention seeking".
Turning up is one thing, but turning up and taking photos of the people there and posting on Facebook/sending to friends about how funny it all is and how the husband is "dressed as a gay" just makes me so angry.
I'm wondering if this is just me that would see this as disrespectful? Unless you believe in equality for the LGBT community surely doing what they are doing is just mockery.
Wondering what to say when I see said couple and they start showing me the photos on their phones and laughing about it all and how much fun it was for all the wrong reasons.

I wonder if the attitude is a cover for the husband's true feelings?

He is dressed as a woman.

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:02

Gleam, maybe!
I think they think is really hilarious, "look at my husband with all the gays haha!"
But potentially one big cover up!

They sound a bit hard of thinking.

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:06

One way of putting it.

mummymeister · 01/07/2017 15:07

so tell them then. why would you want to be friends with people who have this sort of attitude? You just have to hope that they aren't parents and therefore cant pass these sort of vile attitudes on through the generations. are they stuck in the 1960's or something?

really you have to tell them. making homophobic comments is a red line for me anyway but this is the whole pot of paint.

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:09

They aren't friends unfortunately. They are family members. Making it difficult to cut ties.
They have children too, luckily they are well balanced people who don't think like them!

mummymeister · 01/07/2017 15:13

How old are they? I would honestly be telling them how hugely disrespectful this is and how hurtful it could be to people on the march. what will they do in the future if one of your kids/close family members is gay?

Family or not this is a horrible thing to do. do they have no decency boundaries at all?

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:16

Mid fifties.
No, they have no boundaries, at all in life, whatsoever.
I really don't know how they would react if my children turned out to be gay. I should imagine they'd be very very disappointed in them and would most certainly struggle to be around them. Unless it was at a gay pride march taking the piss out of them.

I think there homophobia is a cover for something. I can't imagine any 50 year old homophobic man going to Pride dressed as a woman just to poke fun at the participants! Especially when presumably sober!

kmc1111 · 01/07/2017 15:20

I'd think they were absolutely vile and would say so (it would be the last thing I said to them, family or no).

However unless they went about screaming insults at people I'm not sure what they think they achieved. Everyone will have just assumed the guy is trans or a cross dresser, and they'll have added to the numbers. It's like joining a protest, signs and chants and all, with the intention of mocking the protesters. Whether you're genuine or not, you're part of it.

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:22

I'd be so surprised if that was the case. The husband himself was bought up in a family where it would have been HUGELY frowned upon so perhaps, maybe!
I can't ever imagine it myself.
They are very "tacky" people in my opinion and do think it's absolutely hilarious to laugh at anyone who's different to them, the LGBT community being no exception. Hmm

Oldraver · 01/07/2017 15:24

I'm afraid family or not I would not be able to keep quiet and would be telling them what knobs they and how disrespectful

TheBogQueen · 01/07/2017 15:25

Well it takes all sorts etc

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:25

Kmc.
I agree, it's complete pointless and counter productive. I think the wife would've been taking photos of the husband next to people (without them realising and having a good old giggle at their expense) but I doubt they've been shouting abuse etc, he probably did just look like he was trans/a cross dresser.

squirreltrap · 01/07/2017 15:28

Perhaps he might get the shit kicked out of him by a homophobic bigot while out today.
There'd be some poetic justice in that

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:29

Squirrel
I'm ashamed to say that really would bring a smile to my face.
Now feeling bad for saying that. But it's true.

So a couple who claim to be homophobes have gone to a gay pride march, with the man dressed as a woman, not for confrontation but just a bit of a giggle, because they are so straight. Riiiight. Never confused.

coconuttella · 01/07/2017 15:31

Very odd behaviour... wouldn't surprise at all if man is actually gay!

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:32

They'd never admit they are homophobes. But they most definitely are.
It sort of reminds me of school girl bullying, the man dressing as a woman to take the piss because it's so funny to them.

OP posts:
Epipgab · 01/07/2017 15:33

That is bizarre. Couldn't they have found something else to do today?

Chamonix1 · 01/07/2017 15:34

Epipgab
You'd think.

MissionItsPossible · 01/07/2017 15:37

LOL. I'm sorry but this is a cover up, I can see it from a mile away and have seen it before (as a gay guy). The husband likes to dress as a woman. He has gone to a gay pride parade under the pretence of making fun. What sort of homophobe would go to a gay pride parade dressed as a woman? Answer? The self hating closeted kind.

Italiangreyhound · 01/07/2017 15:38

I am not sure dressing as a woman would make the man gay, but he may like the opportunity to cross dress.

I wouldn't engage in their photos from the march. They sound like they are a little but too interesting in the gay community, not in a good way, so I would deny them the oxygen or publicity, not like or share or show interested in their witterings.

user1497480444 · 01/07/2017 15:38

well, as far as I'm concerned, they would be welcome. He is a transvestite, but even if he wasn't, still welcome.

Italiangreyhound · 01/07/2017 15:38

Oxygen of publicity
