After reading so much on here about all the MLM shite, I've finally got someone on my Facebook who is doing some coffee weight loss thing, her posts are hilarious!

Anyone else keeping their MLM people on their feed just for the comedy value?

Badly applied purple eyeliner

Sunshinegirls · 30/06/2017 21:02

All I see with these things is a Mum trying to make some extra money, there's no harm. You either buy or don't buy. Why bash them? I have a Facebook mlm friend, I buy the occasional thing from her because she is a young Mum of two, trying to make her own way in the world and I have no problem supporting that. Yes, her posts are a bit Hmm but I feel no need to snide about her.

MaisyPops · 30/06/2017 21:03

MLM - basically pyramid schemes mixed with cults.

Have you noticed that you challenge or question the business model all swarm on you like a bunch of scientologists!

They avoid it being illegal because pyramid schemes the seller has to buy lots of product up front to sell (I think) whereas in MLM the seller sells from their own 'site' from the main company stock. I'm trying to work out how they are legal.

The other thing is that most people who buy and sell things like Younique are also presenters (bots!) so it's sold to them as 'even if you don't want to build your business, as a registered presenter you get reduced makeup for yourself' and because you've registered as a presenter, the person above you gets a cut of all your sales (even if the sales in your business are just to yourself) so this 'reduced makeup for yourself and you don't have to build a business' really means reduced tat that makes somebody else rich.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 30/06/2017 21:05

I'm jealous. I've wanted one of these for years Envy

I do have the obligatory runner-bores and dieting-bores, complete with Slimming World meal pictures every night with a caption about how great it is to eat whatever you like and still lose weight!!! but no MLMers.

NotACleverName · 30/06/2017 21:05

I've got Juice Plus and Acti-Labs bots on mine. It's all #workingmybusiness #soblessed #bossbabes shite.

The makeup for the latter looks so bad, too. As if you'd buy this crap over decent, high end stuff.

Mymumsanighthorse · 30/06/2017 21:05

It's not helping her by buying her stuff though sunshine. It's encouraging her to spunk more of her time and money on a shitty, overpriced product and flog it to her friends.

NikiBabe · 30/06/2017 21:06

I was watching my MLM friends live video trying to covert us all again...just as this post popped up.

I keep her for the comedy.

sobeyondthehills · 30/06/2017 21:07

My cousin does something along this line.

She actually seems to be doing very well, the only thing she puts up is where her stall is going to be.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 30/06/2017 21:09

People don't make money selling the products, they make money by recruiting more poor sods below them. And when I say money, unless they are the ones at the top of the pyramid - they aren't making much - if anything, they're losing it.

Mymumsanighthorse · 30/06/2017 21:10

I remember flicking through a Younique catalogue a the hairdressers and being astounded by this image of the contour kit in action - look at the finished result! She looks like she's covered in bruises.

Sunshinegirls · 30/06/2017 21:10

Yes, deep down I know that mymum but I have also watched her go from being quite an insecure person to someone who is more confident, and it's all those shitty memes that she believes in and posts because of her crappy mlm that has done that, kinda makes me go all soft and buy something il never use.

WineAndTiramisu · 30/06/2017 21:10

DailyMailReadersAreThick - I know, another friend started with a make up one, but stopped within a week or two, I was quite disappointed, but then this one showed up, the level of excitement in my house was palpable!

I know someone who's currently posting all these 'wonder' products, but you're not allowed to know the brand unless you pm her. And then presumably you get sucked in by the exclusivity and specialness of it all. I just hope she's not spunking too much cash up against the wall for it.

BoomBoomsCousin · 30/06/2017 21:18

'reduced makeup for yourself and you don't have to build a business' really means reduced tat that makes somebody else rich.'

That is pretty much every discount store ever though. Even poundland is basically buy this tat for yourself at a discount, you don't have to build a business, meanwhile make the store owner rich.

I have an MLM friend in my feed, she's been doing it for over a decade and it's only the ocassional post now. Some of it was kind of funny at first. Lots of abysmally unscientific "research" papers proving how "good" the product was. She's a well qualified engineer, and knows how to read a science paper, so I'm not sure how she bought into it. Have managed not to lose her as a friend by just never addressing it with her. She doesn't prey on badly off friends to become reps and she's not pushy about it though, so I don't dislike her just for doing it.

RedStripeIassie · 30/06/2017 21:19

It is funny Grin. Apart from when I got suckered into buying some shit mascara that I couldn't afford. More fool me!

NotAMammy · 30/06/2017 21:20

Neals Yard isn't a MLM is it? A friend of mine has recently started doing their stuff but also massages and other holistic stuff. She does the #lovemyjob crap but I think it's partially self promotion but also she's just retrained and genuinely loves her job. It's not as obvious as the shite coffee.

JayneAusten · 30/06/2017 21:27

Sunshinegirls she's not more confident though, she's lying. These places actively tell their recruits to lie and fake in the hope of getting (conning) other people to join. It's really not kind to buy into it.

There's some horribly illuminating info here: www.facebook.com/liestopper/?hc_location=ufi

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 30/06/2017 21:31

I have a jamberry nails on my fb...,floral and patterned nail wraps

ChampagneCommunist · 30/06/2017 21:32

What is a Pearl Party?

Marmite27 · 30/06/2017 21:34

My bootcamp instructor had a proper sweary rant about skinny coffee earlier in the week. He was very indignant about it, 'twas very funny.

DJBaggySmalls · 30/06/2017 21:34

In that first post she sounds like Trump!

ChampagneCommunist A Pearl Party host buys a bag of dead clams with pearls stuffed in. They show a clam, you bid on it and they open it on camera.
Then you pay for that pearl to be set in a piece of jewelry the like of which QVC could only dream of.

daisychainagain · 30/06/2017 21:39

What pisses me off about this shite is when people ask questions about it and they're told "I'll inbox you".
Just why???
They are all cults. Nobody can answer a question it's all hush hush.
Fuck off the lot of ya!!

BewtySkoolDropowt · 30/06/2017 21:40

The one that is bugging the shit out of me right now doesn't even sell the stuff! She uses it, the sales are going to the person she bought it from. It's a whitening toothpaste. She has put up photos of her teeth with the difference.

Photo one - skin looks grey, teeth look unrealistically dark
Photo two - skin has yellow tones, very defined difference between lips and skin, teeth look yellow
Photo three - skin has no yellow tones, instead it's pink, difference between lips and skin is much less defines. Teeth look white.

And it's full of people saying 'for real? I want some!' and similar.

Idiots.

Dozyoldtwonk · 30/06/2017 21:42

I've bought MAC, NARS and even Chanel makeup for less or the same price as the Younique stuff! Seriously Shock for the prices the stuff should be flipping amazing although I highly suspect it's anything but

NotJimbo · 30/06/2017 21:46

I'm pretty sure Neal's Yard is legit, they have been selling their stuff for years in actual shops, e.g. department stores and Waitrose, so I mainly know them as a bricks and mortar type business, and I'm old enough to remember favourable reviews of some of their products e.g. in Style magazine, my mum has been using their frankincense cream for decades, tho I do know a re-seller of their wares so I can see how you might think they are involved in MLM.
