Or consider any kind of direct action against a hospital because of decisions concerning any individual patient.

It's irresponsible.

The team dealing with this needs to be held accountable, or at the very least be aware that the public don't agree

They will be held accountable, since this case will almost certainly require a referral to the coroner - although I wouldn't necessarily trust you're aware of what this involves, given the tone of your post

And "the public" don't need to agree, especially when it's clear that so many have only the sketchiest idea of what's going on. Specific clinical decisions aren't made on the basis of public views, and thank heaven they're not

As I've said before, social media is a tool which can be used for good or ill, and when the deranged leap to their keyboards en masse, that "ill" can get a bit overwhelming

I didn't mean to offend anyone who has lost a child, but I found the 'hearts' posts almost competitive. One person posts 10, the next person 15, the next person 20 and so on. It felt like they were trying to outdo each other to prove they were more caring hence my use of the word pathetic. Perhaps I've misinterpreted that and, if so, I apologise.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/06/2017 14:06

One person has 'leaked' copies of his MRI scan (obviously given to them by a family member)

Oh dear god Shock Shock And no doubt idiots will now claim to have "a friend who's a real top expert" in reading such things, who'll come up with some perverse assumption based on nothing at all

A PP said that FB comments have been switched off. I've no idea if this is true - or even possible - but can only pray that it is

whattodowiththepoo · 30/06/2017 14:11

"I'm not qualified to begin to pick apart. But they could have allowed the child to go home"

I'm not qualified

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 30/06/2017 14:17

@Puzzled They are actually claiming this proves that he isn't brain damaged based on a seemingly inconclusive finding on an MRI from 5 months ago.

To ask people to PLEASE not picket hospitals?
Mrsfrumble · 30/06/2017 14:23

Wow Music.

Has anyone come up with a reason WHY doctors at GOSH would want to let the baby's life end if it could possibly be saved? What's their alleged motive?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 30/06/2017 14:23

Talking of the social media and this case, may I ask what everyone else thinks about "#JeSuisCharlieGard" which is currently doing the rounds? Does anyone else feel it's in slightly strange/poor taste?!

53rdWay · 30/06/2017 14:25

Why on earth do they think GOSH would lie about him being brain damaged?

MirandaWest · 30/06/2017 14:29

The latest posts in the Facebook group are bizarre. Quite how MRI reports from last October and this January prove anything I am not sure.

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 30/06/2017 14:33

The 'supporters' simply aren't making any sense. They seem to think the above MRI (clearly leaked by the family) is "new evidence" and the TV/papers have to be informed. One poster has even said that they think Charlie's parents should be disturbed from their final hours with him to deliver this vital information (which they clearly already know about!)

Most of the people on that page are not really rational, for example:

"Someone needs to contact the queen if for any reason it was someone in her family they would be straight to America so why is it different for Charlie"

^^ 3 'likes so far

WTAF?

Alittlepotofrosie · 30/06/2017 14:37

Most of the posts on the charlies army page are absolutely batshit. There are people likening the doctors to the nazis.

thereallochnessmonster · 30/06/2017 14:39

Someone needs to contact the queen if for any reason it was someone in her family they would be straight to America so why is it different for Charlie

Shock Shock Confused Grin

Some people are BATSHIT.

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 30/06/2017 14:41

Well the main ones I've read are -

That the doctors want to play God

That sending Charlie to America would result in a total cure and the doctors are too arrogant to admit they're wrong.

That the doctors just want to stick two fingers up at Charlie's parents.

Yes, quite Confused

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 30/06/2017 14:49

@MusicForTheJiltedGeneration

Yeah, it's the hashtag on twitter and facebook for it at the moment.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/06/2017 15:24

I'm afraid nothing surprises me any more - shocks, perhaps, but not surprises Hmm

Carolinesbeanies · 30/06/2017 15:28

Nobodys claiming a total cure. Everybody is aware its a trial in the US.

Charlie is their son. They have the money to take him for potential treatment. (Indeed had the money since January) All parties agree the proposed treatment in the US, wouldnt cause Charlie further harm.

The parents have been treated by the legal system in exactly the same way child abusing parents are. Theyve had their rights removed as legal guardians, and Charlie is in effect a ward of GOSH. Its outrageous.

WankYouForTheMusic · 30/06/2017 15:33

There is no party in the US or anywhere who claims there is a realistic chance of this treatment assisting Charlie, though. What you are basically saying is that parents should be able to allow a child to be experimented on, with no realistic chance of any benefit to them. That is outrageous.

OlennasWimple · 30/06/2017 15:37

I can't believe that anyone sensible would think that picketing a hospital full of sick children is in any way an appropriate thing to do. Angry

Andrewofgg · 30/06/2017 15:44

There are no circumstances in which picketing a hospital is justifiable. None. None at all. Ever.

WellErrr · 30/06/2017 15:45

All parties agree the proposed treatment in the US, wouldnt cause Charlie further harm

That's not quite true though, is it?

C8H10N4O2 · 30/06/2017 15:45

Best interests should rest with the parents. Not independent guardians, not doctors, not courts. That is my belief. People arguing with me will not change that view.

So parents are supreme power over their children.

Does this include sending girls for FGM? Disposing of unwanted girl children? Neglecting them in the name of some philosophical viewpoint? Forcing child/young marriage? Leaving a child in pain and suffering.
All these things can be done because parents think it 'in the best interest'.
Someone has to separate the child's best interest from the parents' wishes (and maybe social conditioning). Parents cannot always do this for themselves.

JessicaEccles · 30/06/2017 15:47

wouldnt cause Charlie further harm

Is that the only test for testing unproven medical treatments on a dying child? dear god, lab animals have more rights. This is all just horrible.

Shakirasma · 30/06/2017 15:51

I love the way so many people on social media think they know more about all this than the medical experts, and the courts who examined all the evidence on both sides of the argument.

It Would be funny if it wasn't so utterly tragic.
