To think my child is yellow?!

I noticed my toddler had a really yellow hue a few months ago, and thinking she ate a decent amount of veg, I put it down to beta carotene overdose, which I'd heard was quite common in toddlers. Few months later, she'd gone off lots of veg, but was still as yellow, so I sheepishly booked a doctors appointment, stressing to the receptionist that i didn't want to be a time waster etc. Dr looked at me like I was mad and had no explanation for it, said it wasn't really obvious and to watch out for her eyes going yellow as that WOULD be a sign of an illness. Anyway, please tell me if I'm crazy or if you think she looks yellow! Neither me or my husband are particularly olive, both fair skinned... baby is included as comparison Grin. Thank you!!

My MIL has that yellow tone to her skin. Bizarrely her hair and eyes are a similar shade too, both gold coloured.

She has to be careful with what she wears to avoid looking like an Oscar Grin

I have one yellow and one pink child. The yellow one looks a bit peaky/sallow in winter but goes a glorious shade of golden brown as soon as the sun comes out and his brown hair goes blond. Lucky boy!

If there is any problem, it usually shows up in the eyes I think.

I did have a child that had was jaundiced and under lights when born and always seemed to have yellow undertones. One day he seemed to be particularly yellow but I couldn't really tell until I put him next to his sister and compared and then noticed his eyes. Was not a common issue but he did have surgery and is now yellow free Smile

I've got a similar skin tone too. When I'm run down I always think I look yellow. But it's not really yellow iyswim. I remember telling a doctor years ago that I looked yellow... he said I didn't!! Grin Listen to the doctor OP

My daughter and I have yellowish skin tones and tan very easily even through 50plus sunscreen and go a golden brown colour. My husband and other children are quite pale and don't have the yellowish tinge.

@Lweji Come to think of it, my baby suits all her hand-me-down clothes better than the toddler ever did... probably as I was drawn to cooler colours being 'pink' myself. My dear mum has always said the toddler didn't suit certain colours idressed her in and now I can she she was right (argh, as usual) and the reason for it! X

So, not totally useless, then? :)

@NC4now Battenburg children... I love this!!! Made me choke on my cuppa and I will now proudly use this phrase when describing their 'tones' (not that anyone inthe world would give two hoots, but you know...)

@augustusglupe It's funny when you say you're yellow (or the toddler is) and the gp says 'um, no you're not'. There's no come back, is there? You just have to go, um ok, and slink out of their office... cringe!
