To ask you how you make your cornflake cakes?

My oven is not working...waiting for replacement...and I have to bring some cakes to school tomorrow afternoon for an event.

I thought I'd make cornflake cakes ...no baking needed! Anyway, in my mind, they were just melted chocolate and cornflakes but Googling has brought up all these recipes with golden syrup and butter in them.

I don't want to go to the shop just for syrup! Do I have to use it? Can I just do butter and chocolate? Or just choc? I have some mini marshmallows which I thought I'd put a few of on the top of each...any advice?

Chocolate and cornflakes!

nancy75 · 28/06/2017 10:06

I melt chocolate & mix in cornflakes, I have done it with golden syrup but they went funny!

GreenHillsOfHome · 28/06/2017 10:07

Just chocolate and cornflakes here, never heated of putting anything else with them!

onadifferentplanet · 28/06/2017 10:07

I just melt a bar of cooking chocolate and stir in cornflakes, then chuck a few sprinkles on top. The grand children are tucking into some as I type with no complaints!

HipsterHunter · 28/06/2017 10:08

Melt mars bars.
Stir in cornflakes.

BeepBeepMOVE · 28/06/2017 10:10

Texture is better with some syrup.

Birdsgottaf1y · 28/06/2017 10:13

You can melt the marshmallows into them, they would act like butter or syrup.

MrsOverTheRoad · 28/06/2017 10:15

Really? So it's to stop the chocolate and cornflakes being too hard?

How many marshmallows do I melt please Birds? About half as much of the marshmallows as the choc?

Chocolate and cornflakes! Cba with anything else in there. Once or twice I added butter but they were no different so I don't bother

Natsku · 28/06/2017 10:16

Mars bars and cornflakes, though I do usually put a bit of syrup in too, think it makes them stickier and chewier, but sure will work just fine without.

God I want cornflake cakes now!

MrsOverTheRoad · 28/06/2017 10:55

Thanks everyone! I want them now too!

Throw in a few raisins with the chocolate and cornflakes.

PinkHeart5911 · 28/06/2017 10:57

Melt chocolate add to cornflakes, in to cake cases then a few marshmallows and sprinkles on top and in to the fridge.

Natsku · 28/06/2017 11:00

That's it, I have to go to the shop and get cornflakes, mars bars, marshmallows and everything now!! Something for me and DD to do today (and me to eat tonight Grin )

Louiselouie0890 · 28/06/2017 12:13

Chocolate and cornflakes doesn't need anything else

user1494409994 · 28/06/2017 12:28

If you melt marshmallows in, make sure they are vegetarian ones or they become a problem if you have Muslim kids in school. Far easier to stick with cornflakes and chocolate.

MrsOverTheRoad · 28/06/2017 12:33

User we don't have any restrictions on food in my older DD"s class...it's a small class...the cakes are only for that particular class too. There are no Muslims or people with allergies.

I've always done a mix of butter, syrup and chocolate, because my mother always did. Chocolate needs to be the primary ingredient, though, else they don't hold together properly, and it gets messy.

You can do them without choc, and I assume the butter is then important to help them set, but chocolate is better.

RiversrunWoodville · 28/06/2017 12:44

Ooh mars bar cornflake buns

bogofeternalstench · 28/06/2017 13:09

Cocoa, golden syrup & butter here, same as my mum made them. I don't like cornflake cakes made with melted chocolate. Guess it's what you're used to.

SanFranBear · 28/06/2017 13:12

Mars Bars and Cornflakes... my god - that sounds AMAZING!

CJCreggsGoldfish · 28/06/2017 13:12

Chocolate and cornflakes. I tried to add golden syrup once, but the chocolate went bitty. I don't like wasting chocolate so I've never experimented to see what went wrong.

EBearhug · 28/06/2017 13:13

If people want to send samples of all the different variations, I am selflessly willing to test them all. All in the interests of science.

MaryTheCanary · 28/06/2017 13:17

I used cocoa, golden syrup butter and some sugar.

Ones made with just melted chocolate stirred into cornflakes are to be avoided because they flay the roof of your mouth. (And the commercial ones made like this always use horrible cheap chocolate, too.)
