To ask if you decided not to vaccinate your children

Do you regret it? Did they catch any of the diseases that they could have been vaccinated for and what was the outcome?

And anyone who did get their children vaccinated - did they catch any of the diseases anyway? And do you regret vaccinating for any reason?

This isn't intended to start a debate for or against vaccination generally as that's been done many times, I'm more just interested in your personal experiences if you'd be willing to share them. Thank you.

My DV are fully vaccinated, had minor fevers on the day of the jabs, have never regretted it for one minute.

Cailleach666 · 27/06/2017 20:57

As a note I would suggest that anyone asking 'which is worse, autism or death' should have a think about just how low they are prepared to sink to make a point on the internet

Exactly.

CoteDAzur · 27/06/2017 21:04

"I'm not immune to mumps so I hope the herd immunity protects me."

Why don't you get yourself vaccinated?

GinIsIn · 27/06/2017 21:07

My DS had a severe reaction to the 8 week vaccinations, resulting in us ending up in A&E. He still had the 12 week and 16 week ones and will be having the 1 year ones and the chicken pox one privately. 24 hours on an NG tube in A&E is STILL preferable to meningitis or measles.

CoteDAzur · 27/06/2017 21:10

"Vaccination is not about personal choice."

It is, actually. That is exactly what non-compulsory means.

BasketOfDeplorables · 27/06/2017 21:14

The thing is, Fenella, I could understand if someone had your experience and they decided not to vaccinate. I think you made the right decision, but I can see why people would go the other way. What I can't understand is why anyone would decide against vaccination without experiencing any ill effects. Most of the people against vaccination have been vaccinated, and remember everyone queuing up in school, and no one having any ill effects. They have seen this wth their own eyes.

lorelairoryemily · 27/06/2017 21:15

Your method of research is bizzare. Asking other parents on a forum like this is not research. It's an opinion poll. Here's my opinion, stop faffing about and vaccinate your child. You are crazy to be mulling it over and anti vaxers are hypocrites, they're still depending on herd immunity. Hope that helps.

lorelairoryemily · 27/06/2017 21:16

Fenella your poor ds. That's so scary

Rhayader · 27/06/2017 21:18

We did split out a few of the vaccines. 1 in each leg at a time, my DC always get really ill afterwards, they just seem to react badly to them. All the "rare" side effects, rash, vomiting, fever etc

That said, they've had them at least vaguely on time (within a month or so), except for BCG which ive still been unable to get for my DS because my CCG is hopeless.

QueenofLouisiana · 27/06/2017 21:23

I was not vaccinated against whooping cough in the 1970s. Due to concerns over brain damage links. I had many health conditions already and had a life expectancy of less than 5 years.

At 36 I caught whooping cough and spend 3 months in varying degrees of discomfort/ vomiting/ not sleeping. At times I thought I might be in need of hospitalisation (I'm also asthmatic). Horrible, horrible time.

DS is vaccinated against everything.

2tiredtothinkofausername · 27/06/2017 21:25

If you need convincing about vaccinations I would suggest looking at your own family history. Going back through the records of the generation before my parents it breaks my heart that so many babies and young children died and that this was the norm. Vaccinations certainly have improved this and I've never regretted protecting my DS.

Sophiealice95 · 27/06/2017 21:28

My dd1 had the first mmr but not the second . I didn't give it to her sister either because my dd1 was very strange after the first one. She seemed to withdraw and stop developing socially. Almost autistic tendencies. She is a strange child not autistic but not completely normal. Clever enough but gets depressed, is a loner and very argumentative. My other dd is a dream . I haven't given them the HPV vaccine either and that is due to the problems arising from it. In fact the Japanese Government have withdrawn their support for the administration of the vaccine.

Refilona · 27/06/2017 21:36

Vaccinations should 100% be compulsory and I think anyone who doesn't vaccinate their kids is not only irresponsible, stupid but immoral. Children with cancer and other health issues who can't get vaccinated CAN AND WILL MOST PROBABLY DIE if everyone else isn't vaccinated. It's beyond idiotic.

CrochetBelle · 27/06/2017 21:44

My children are both up to date with vaccinations, because I don't want them to die.
They are both diagnosed with ASD. They haven't had measles, mumps, rubella or death.

BubbleGuppie · 27/06/2017 21:44

I vaccinated my children but I wasn't going to with my second. I'm anaphylactic to the flu jab (only been since after my first was born) so didn't have it in 2nd or 3rd pregnancy so was terrified when the doctors said if my baby has my allergies then they will go into shock from the jabs and I had to choose between giving her the jabs and risk having a anaphylactic shock or not to have them.
I saw so many doctors and eventually they said they will have a epipen and a ambulance on standby. Never been so scared, even the nurse was worried and refused without a doctor present and did it one by one with breaks inbetween, but we thought having them had more benefits than not (was better to find out now with a small dosage than finding out when they are actually poorly and need treatment) so coming from a allergy view I can completely understand why some people won't do it because of allergies. Now I've got to do it again with my 3rd

Refilona · 27/06/2017 21:45

There's zero VALID scientific evidence connecting the two. It's bullshit.

Annabel7 · 27/06/2017 21:49

My sister didn't vaccinate her children. They haven't contracted anything and she's never regretted it.

PetalsOnPearls · 27/06/2017 21:54

"Vaccinations should 100% be compulsory"

And who's going to pick up the cost of children / adults who've reacted to them? You do realise the fact they are not compulsory is the reason that people cannot sue when vaccinations go wrong, and sometimes they do.

Refilona · 27/06/2017 21:59

Obviously extreme reactions would be an exception but there's no way of telling if there's going to be a reaction or not before you actually do it, is there?
If parents CHOOSE not to vaccinate their kids they should have to homeschool them because I definitely would not want my children near their kids.

Sleepthief84 · 27/06/2017 22:00

All vaccines up to date here and we're giving DD the chicken pox vaccine next month privately.

PetalsOnPearls · 27/06/2017 22:01

" because I definitely would not want my children near their kids."

Your kids, will be near those kids every day. There are many reasons why children can't be vaccinated, and it is not always down to parental choices.

PetalsOnPearls · 27/06/2017 22:02

"Obviously extreme reactions would be an exception but there's no way of telling if there's going to be a reaction or not before you actually"

And that's absolutely the point. No parent should be forced to give their child a vaccination as you don't know what is going to happen. That's why the surgeries are so careful to run through all the risks with you beforehand. Vaccines are not 100% safe and until they are, they should not be forced on anyone.

bumbleymummy · 27/06/2017 22:03

"If parents CHOOSE not to vaccinate their kids they should have to homeschool them because I definitely would not want my children near their kids."

Why? What are you afraid of?

GinIsIn · 27/06/2017 22:04

basket, lorelai one of my closest friends is deaf and another's brother has no hands thanks to meningitis - it's just not a chance I can take for DS even if he doesn't react well to the jabs.

Refilona · 27/06/2017 22:05
