To get a side shave at 30 (pic included)

I'm feeling a bit bored with my hair and I really fancy trying a side shave! Well actually I fancy having an undercut but I think my hair is a bit too thin to pull that off.

I usually have shorter bob hair styles and have experimented with colours and short hair sometimes.

I would only be getting a small one if I did so theoretically if I hated it I could just part my hair the other way and hide it well enough til it grew back.

Am I too old? I'm not trying to be 'cool' but I'm not an old 30 IYSWIM

What do people think? I have pinned a bit back to try and create what it would look like if anyone would care to have a judge! I've tried to leave my face shape in and the general areas of my features if that helps! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks

Do it.

I'm 40 and have an undercut. I also am not thin, and have a hairstyle that people often say you 'shouldn't get' or 'can't away with' if you're fat like I am. Oddly though, I pull off the cat rather well and look way better than when I had long/ mid length hair.

I say bollocks to those attitudes really. It's hair, it's fun and all people suit shorter/ edgier haircuts. There's no such thing as too old or too fat for short hair or an undercut (something I've been told by LOADS of people). It's just nonsense.

I've had a sidecut several times (currently growing out my hair from an all over buzzcut so I can have another) and I'm older than you Grin

My DH does mine at home with some basic clippers. I take loads of mine off though, when it's done I have about 2/5 shaved and 3/5 long, so I can't contort myself to see the bits towards the back well enough to maintain it myself. .

I'm nearly 40 and I have two side shaves and a lilac pompadour. Do what you want!

Moanyoldcow · 26/06/2017 18:48

Do it! I'm having one once I go on mat leave! I'm 39. I'd have one now but my work would 'frown' upon it...

I had this, and did it myself with a pair of clippers Blush had it for a couple of years. One time I forgot to put the guard on the clippers and was literally bald on the one side! As PP said tho, growing it out doesn't look too nice, mine grew horizontally, but you can always switch your parting to cover it Smile

Sorry, I meant pull of the CUT! Certainly not cat...

I had an undercut at 35

Although it's impossible to see unless I wear my hair up - I had it done to tame my ridiculously thick mane into a more manageable amount of hair

It's amazing

Instead of slicing endless layers in, I've had all the weight taken out from the underneath. Proper game changer

Business on top, party underneath

People are shocked if I wear it up and there's a hidden undercut they didn't know was there!

Dooooooo it!

As soon as I'm wed in December I'm going to chop off my boring long brown hair and go all rock chick with bright red (and I mean bright, post box red) retro style hair and at least three tattoos.

My parents and PILs will be aghast. I can't wait Grin

PeaFaceMcgee · 26/06/2017 20:57

Ah I'm sooo pleased so many of us with stupidly thick hair have an undercut. I bloody love it, though my mother was horrified. Haha.

And how very dare you MrsOverTheRoad - my face is still very beautiful indeed at my 'old' age (almost 37)
