To get a side shave at 30 (pic included)

I'm feeling a bit bored with my hair and I really fancy trying a side shave! Well actually I fancy having an undercut but I think my hair is a bit too thin to pull that off.

I usually have shorter bob hair styles and have experimented with colours and short hair sometimes.

I would only be getting a small one if I did so theoretically if I hated it I could just part my hair the other way and hide it well enough til it grew back.

Am I too old? I'm not trying to be 'cool' but I'm not an old 30 IYSWIM

What do people think? I have pinned a bit back to try and create what it would look like if anyone would care to have a judge! I've tried to leave my face shape in and the general areas of my features if that helps! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks

I am 35 just had an undercut.

SaucyJack · 26/06/2017 17:00

Do it if you want one.

You'll be dead a long time.

PeaFaceMcgee · 26/06/2017 17:00

I have a grade 1 undercut at 36, go for it

Lottapianos · 26/06/2017 17:00

Do it. Of course you're not too old. Hairstyles like that are about attitude, not age

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 26/06/2017 17:02

Yes, if you want to, do it! I have fancied that before but I have a big round face that wouldn't pull it off. Also, am almost 33, so far too old Grin.
In serious though, I don't think 30s is 'too old' for any hair style - go for it.

RoryPowers · 26/06/2017 17:02

You forgot your eyebrows!

But yes go for it!

fightoffyourdemons · 26/06/2017 17:04

Rory that'll be why it looks so funny then! 😂

Thanks everyone! Sod it! I'm going to do it!! I'm also getting my nose re-pierced!

I've just started (re)losing weight and I think it's given me a kick to start being who I want to be a bit rather than worrying if people will think it's silly!!

buggerthebotox · 26/06/2017 17:06

Oh please do it! And don't forget the pic!

WhatThePuck · 26/06/2017 17:20

Love I'm 38 and I've done it
Live for today and who cares what others think
It's on your head

Nikephorus · 26/06/2017 18:14

You might want to try leaving the thick layer of make-up off though because it makes your face look a weird apricot colour Grin

Mollieben · 26/06/2017 18:15

My friend is 40 and has one Smile

WordsAreWind · 26/06/2017 18:17

I have an undercut at 38.

Niiknoc · 26/06/2017 18:19

I'm mid-30s with an undercut. As well as loving it, it also thins out my thick, clumpy hair so it's cool and practical Grin

scaredofthecity · 26/06/2017 18:24

I had one, it's great till you get bored and want to grow it out and it takes FOREVER!
I am so fed up of the inbetween phase... just bear it in mind that's all.

Suntrapped · 26/06/2017 18:26

I don't see the point of them unless you're a rebellious teen wanting to look 'hard'. They just look lopsided and a bit unkempt to me. Reminds me of a shaved patch from surgery.

Why do you feel it is 'you' what does it say about you?

GreatFuckability · 26/06/2017 18:27

i have an undercut at 36. as Niiknoc says it thins out my hair and means it sits a lot better and means i can put it up without having weird pieces at the back. and it looks awesome i think!

HuckfromScandal · 26/06/2017 18:28

I had an undercut at 43
Love it
Go for it
You're a long time dead

fightoffyourdemons · 26/06/2017 18:32

Do you all get it done at the hair dressers or shall I just break out the clippers and do it myself? 🤔 it looks pretty easy, the only thing I worry about and would like someone else's input on it exactly which bit to do, I don't want a section too big so I suppose I could just start small and get bigger as I like, some people have curved ones though and some people have more square ones.

If anyone would like to share a picture of theirs I would be super grateful! 😀

At thirty it's fine....older than 35 not so much. The trouble is that on young, perfect faces, it throws youth into the focus...there's a sort of contrast...the severe, shaved part against a beautiful face....once you begin ageing then you're getting into Prisoner Cell Block H territory.

fightoffyourdemons · 26/06/2017 18:34

Suntrapped I am a bit of a rebel teenager at heart! I've always liked the slightly edgier side of fashion, and there is LOADS of things I think I wanna do because I like them on other people and I always talk myself out of them and I'm starting to feel at 30 that if I can't do things because I like them and I want to experiment, it's a bit of a sorry state to be in really! I feel like it would be symbolic of me doing something for myself and not for anyone else which I've spent a long time doing!

ohforfoxsake · 26/06/2017 18:35

Haha! I'm 47 and spoke to my hairdresser about one on both sides today.

I cannot stand that asymmetrical cut, but I'm sorely tempted by this.

ohforfoxsake · 26/06/2017 18:36

I'm already in the Prisoner Cell Block H region so it can only get better Grin

fightoffyourdemons · 26/06/2017 18:37

Mrsovertheroad that made me laugh! 😂 this is absolutely not a stealth boast! But people are often surprised I am 30, I still get asked for Id for alcohol and cigarettes and stuff so I reckon it will look ok with regards to the age side of it. It's more for people who know I'm 30 and will think 'why is that 30 year old I know trying to be cool?' 😬

OP posts:
Floisme · 26/06/2017 18:39

There doesn't need to be a point. Aside from practical or safety issues, there's no point to any hairstyle other than experimentation and a bit of fun. Why should only young people have fun with their appearance?

fightoffyourdemons · 26/06/2017 18:39

Oh my god I'm getting so tempted to go home and do it myself!! 😱😐
