Tories have done a deal with the DUP. And it only cost 1 billion.

What a bargain.

Hmmm. What shall I do to pass all these shitty laws? I know, I need a majority! Let's have an election so I can get a stronger mandate!

Oh shit, I lost my majority. Don't worry, I can link up with the DUP!

Yay for democracy.

So there IS a magic money tree!

Survivors of Grenfell aren't being moved in to new £1.6 million flats.

Some families have been offered accommodation in newly built social housing in the same complex as these expensive flats.

Some are being housed in grotty B&Bs in Lambeth, and some who were sub-letting, lease holders or privately renting are god knows where.

christinarossetti · 26/06/2017 14:03

Somerville in what way doesn't this money have 'political strings attached'?

It's predicated on political strings.

user1498470469 · 26/06/2017 14:03

@londonista

Don't forget the Tories spending £9 million on remain leaflets haha

Somerville · 26/06/2017 14:04

I was talking about theoretically string-free money in the first paragraph, christina, and the actual situation (with hellishly large strings of course) in the second. Sorry if I wasn't clear... and for the typos.

The magic money tree has been located.

Hip hip, hooray!

BeyondOfbob · 26/06/2017 14:06

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap indeed, Portia.

Pigface1 · 26/06/2017 14:06

A billion quid isn't that much. It would run the NHS - on a shoestring - for about 4 days.

BarbarianMum · 26/06/2017 14:07

So cash for questions is a scandal but cash for votes isn't?

PortiaCastis · 26/06/2017 14:09

Always thought bribery was a crime but that must only apply to us plebs

How can she risk peace in NI? Shame on her.

londonista · 26/06/2017 14:15

BMA says "NHS running on fumes".
If only they put Andrea Leadsom in charge, she'd tell them to turn that frown upside down and stop talking down our health service.

RoseTico · 26/06/2017 14:15

So she has now delivered everything that she warned would be headed our way if Labour got in? Priceless...

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 26/06/2017 14:15

It's not a cash gift to the DUP leaders you know, it's going to hugely benefit the people in Northern Ireland. Most of you lefties seem to be all "for the many" as long as it's not going to NI.

This.

averylongtimeago · 26/06/2017 14:18

No money for schools. No money for the health service, no money for fire fighters, no money for the armed services, no money for the disabled, no money for decent housing, no money for the poor, no money for the old, no money to repair crumbling infrastructure.
But a billion pounds to buy the votes of the DUP.

Just how low did she have to go to find the magic money tree?

averylongtimeago · 26/06/2017 14:21

And yes, I know that the leaders of the DUP have not been given the money as a personal gift. I dare say that NI will benefit hugely from the extra cash.
But any "spare" money should be spent fairly, after public scrutiny, not handed over to buy votes.

Syc4moreTrees · 26/06/2017 14:22

That about sums it up.

Somerville · 26/06/2017 14:24

The concern I and many other posters on here have is that because of the political situation this money will not benefit the people of the North of Ireland. Have you not understood that Syc4more , Faith and others..?

gluteustothemaximus · 26/06/2017 14:25

Definitely not.

Just bear in mind, that had the tories got their majority, NI would not have seen an extra billion, even though they need it.

Lefties are about 'for the many'. I said upthread, that it's not the money. I'm up for investment, and helping every part of the UK...but this is not about Tories helping NI, this is about staying in power. For a price. And at what cost.

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 26/06/2017 14:26

For £1 billion I'd expect the DUP to be high tailing it to Brussels to sit on our negotiating team. Seems like they'll make their fee back in, ooh I dunno, three weeks?

MissDuke · 26/06/2017 14:26

In essence they are! £1bn of English, Scottish and Welsh taxpayers money
You do realise people in NI pay taxes too, right?

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 26/06/2017 14:26

Bit of an eye opener to all the sheeple who have banged on about austerity and magic money trees eh

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 26/06/2017 14:27

Fools

Syc4moreTrees · 26/06/2017 14:28

somerville I understand the political situation in NI very well. Having lost both parents to the "troubles". Assuming they ever get the assembly back off its knees I don't see why people have to wring their hands about the peace process being "fragile" that's not my experience of it. I think if ego's can be set aside NI has every chance of success.
