Speeding Ticket?!

Speeding · 23/06/2017 16:08

Sorry I am posting here for traffic.

Is there anyway I can check if I got a speeding ticket before it comes in the post?

Thank-you in advance.

I was shocked when a school teacher of mine was fined on the spot for driving over the speed limit (she was doing 35 in a 30mph limit). Her fine was £30 then and nothing on her licence. That was in the 70s. She was the most conservative teacher in the school.

Also smiled when during a Delia Smith programme in the 00s she had her mum complain she had gone above the speed limit and it was her first driving offence.

grannytomine · 23/06/2017 17:49

CherylVole, they might be a range of people but they do have something in common don't they? They don't obey the law because obviously if you are classed as safe drivers they are above the law.

No, speed itself does not kill, it's the sudden deceleration that does.
And yes, a lot of people speed and get away with it because they were lucky and did not hit anything.

Now, if we wanted to have a discussion about whether to increase the motorway speed limit seeing that moderns cars handle speed quite differently than when national speed limits were decided on, fine. I'd be quite happy to have motorway speed increased while decreasing and enforcing speed in built-up areas. IMO we are mainly going too fast in towns.

littlebird7 · 23/06/2017 17:56

Elendon - sorry to say that it does not matter whether it is your first time or not, over a certain speed you can still be banned first time or not.

littlebird7 · 23/06/2017 17:57

Navy - her post seemed rushed so not sure there was a lack of remorse, just a brief post.

BoysofMelody · 23/06/2017 18:03

I don't think that 71 is significantly more dangerous

No it isn't. But then the police are extremely unlikely to take action if that were the case (unless there were aggravating factors)

ACPO guidelines are 10% plus 2mph, for a fixed penalty or speed awareness So the car would have to be traveling in excess of 79 mph. (96 for prosecution).

Then you add on the fact that car speedometers deliberately over read by a small amount of around 10%. So to be prosecuted for driving on a motorway, a speedo would be showing about 85mph.

So there's no chance of getting done for letting your speedometer fractionally over the 70 reading.

For a long term professional driver, the op doesn't seem particularly clued up on important aspects of driving.

Tbh, reading your posts, OP, I hope they got you.

littlebird7 · 23/06/2017 18:47

I think we all agree that speeding is completely dangerous and is not acceptable...and it is important that people that speed are caught and dealt with, that is not to say that some drivers will speed unintentionally and this happens all the time.

The law has been tightened so that it reflects general opinion on this. Op is worried about her job, too many points on her licence and the job may be over, certainly a disqualification could be the end of her career, so although I don't agree with speeding I have some understanding of why is she sad about it, she is human and she made a mistake.

Groovee · 23/06/2017 19:13

I was on holiday last year and thought I was on a 40 road but was on a 30 road. If it was Scotland I would have had 3 points on my licence and a fine but as it was England, I got a course which was actually really informative and has me thinking about my speed now.

littlebird7 · 23/06/2017 19:22

I am thinking that drivers should do the speed awareness and drink driving course before taking their driving test, not sure why it isn't included.

Jellybean85 · 23/06/2017 19:42

In fairness no one piled in on op for getting a ticket at first. Any one can have a momentary lapse and speed or miss a change in speed limit
Etc. No ones perfect. I would never judge someone for getting a ticket, I've had one.

I do however judge someone with a crappy attitude like the Op has! Shocking to hear from a 'professional driver'

Charlie97 · 23/06/2017 19:43

I hope you get a ticket, you deserve it!

Speeding does kill, so dies dangerous driving!

CaptainHammer · 23/06/2017 19:45

jellybean85 I was about to type the exact same thing.

I hope the OP does receive a ticket now.

alleypalley · 23/06/2017 19:53

Speeding does NOT kill.
Dangerous driving kills.

Speeding is dangerous driving you fucking knob.

TestTubeTeen · 23/06/2017 20:28

Haha you are too funny OP.

Ok, I often drive at 80 on motorways, I am bloody lucky not to have been fined yet, to be honest.

I never speed on A Roads tho '.

It really isn't becoming to attempt justification , blaming the police, claiming your superiority etc when caught 'bang to rights' breaking the law. It sounds arrogant and twatty.

'It's a fair cop guv ' is a better look. IMO.

GoneDownhill · 23/06/2017 20:29

Why the police don't have something better to do I don't know.

😳. Really???

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 23/06/2017 20:36

If you were clocked and if you were within a certain percentage over the limit, you can take the driver awareness course, which is interesting and does make you think, in my opinion.

I disagree with your statement that speeding does not kill. Perhaps speeding on an empty road in daylight might not be, but could, in different circumstances, be classed as dangerous driving.

MaudesMum · 23/06/2017 20:48

I went on a speed awareness course about 10 years ago, because I was caught doing 40-ish in a 30. At that point I had 9 points, so if I'd taken the points rather than the course I would have been disqualified. It was exactly the right decision, as it made me understand the potential implications of driving over a speed limit, and also made me understand why those particular speed limits have been set. I've had no points since, and I stick to the speed limit everywhere apart from motorways. What I find slightly worrying is the number of drivers that will overtake you even if you are driving within speed limits.

ForalltheSaints · 23/06/2017 21:56

I wish cars were speed limited, at least for the maximum national limit. As for the OP, take the fine or points with a good grace. There are I am sure many who are much worse but that does not excuse you.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 23/06/2017 22:45

Am i the only one that found the first line of OP's first post a bit ironic...
"I'm only posting here for traffic"
And i do wonder why OP needs to know so urgently whether they got a ticket...
