AIBU to never use my toilet again? *light hearted*

I was happily watching TV when I heard an odd sound in my bathroom. Partner went to investigate, thinking maybe I had left a tap slightly on. He walks in and there was a RAT in my toilet!

I then had to fish it out as he was too scared. I was very cool, calm and collected and went about collecting the rat. I now realise that I just fished a dirty maybe pooey germ and possibly diseased infested rat out of my loo.

Would it be AIBU to bleach the whole house and have a bath with disinfectant in?! Or do I just get the toilet filled in and block off that part of the house?

my partner flushed the loo but the rat just looked at him in the eye and did a stealthy doggy paddle

god that made me laugh, sorry OP

squoosh · 22/06/2017 19:50

How can a rat get into your toilet?

It travels in the opposite direction to poo.

PacificDogwod · 22/06/2017 19:51

Wow, what technique! What finesse! What sang froid in the face of ratty crisis!

I am very impressed.
AND a happy ending for the rat - well played, OP Wine

'There's a rat in mi toilet, what am I gonna do, there's a rat in mi toilet, what am I gonna do?' Thanks for the earworm, OP!

Sounds like you dealt with it brilliantly to be honest.

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:52

Blueskies apparently they are the Olympic swimmers of the rodent world and swim up your pipes from sewers. Shudders.

GrumpyOldBag · 22/06/2017 19:53

Do you live in a town or the country OP?

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:55

Thanks everyone! I will continue to wash and rewash my hands and hope bleepingrat doesn't find its way back, I think I need a stiff drink after all this excitement 🍸

The outskirts of a small town Grumpy, are they known for a rat uprising?

You need pest control, some councils have, however if not you will need to find someone independant our

indigox · 22/06/2017 20:00

I would have moved out by now Grin

MissBlueskies · 22/06/2017 20:02

God, I never knew that rats could do this. I would literally be screaming the place down! Saying that I'm such a big softie when it comes to animals that when I'd eventually calmed down, I would have captured it and then called the RSPCA to take it away. I couldn't kill it no matter how horrid it was.

maxybrown · 22/06/2017 20:02

Ok DH being Hmm now I'm.saying see! SEE! He is asking where do you live Bleeping? Countryside or town?

maxybrown · 22/06/2017 20:03

Oops sorry cross posted!

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 20:03

Haud I didn't think of that, I will give the council a ring tomorrow and see what they suggest

I found a dead bird in my toilet once. A biggish one. I have a thing about birds anyway, although admittedly this one wasn'the about to fly near my hair.... DH was working away, so I couldn't wimp out. It took me about 5 tries to get it out. I ran downstairs in between each attempt Blush. Then I threw it out onto the patio in a carrier bag to wait for DH Blush Blush

maxybrown · 22/06/2017 20:05

Now he's telling me it's as ridiculous as his mother's fear of finding a lion in the garden Shock I'm not really sure it is THAT unlikely is it. Grrrr

ZebraOwl · 22/06/2017 20:06

But at least it was still in the loo & hadn't hopped out to check out the rest of your home. Imagine if you'd instead followed a trail of tiny soggy pawprints through your abode to find your ratty chum snuggled down in your bed? Or having a snack in your kitchen? Or sprawled on your sofa (as much as a rat can sprawl...) watching Flushed Away after hacking into your Amazon account?

TBH BleepingCat's assistance would probably have made things.. messy...

Am afraid that I too giggled over the image of the rat side-eyeing your DH & nonchalantly rodent-paddling against the attempt to flush it away. IIRC, it's illegal to release sewer rats, but I'm not going to tell on you Wink

viques · 22/06/2017 20:08

Have you heard the David Attenborough rat in the toilet story Apparently he was erm in situ and the thing leapt out between his legs.

but that was in forrin parts, not good old Blighty

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 22/06/2017 20:09

You grabbed it with your hands? Wow, that is impressive. I don't even have a fear of rodents but I still wouldn't grab a rat with my hands (no matter how many pairs of gloves I was wearing) just in case it managed to bite through the gloves or wiggled out of my grip and bit me on the arms! I wouldn't want to risk catching something disgusting from a rat!

Good job old girl.

Charlotteswigwam · 22/06/2017 20:09

Have you called 111 and logged it yet?

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 22/06/2017 20:12

...? Did HaudYerWheeshtBawbag just get murdered by a rat halfway through writing a post? Shock

Gracielaw · 22/06/2017 20:14

Literally just sat on the loo and had to jump back up to check 😂

Maudlinmaud · 22/06/2017 20:14

I'd be dead! Hate them, although there is a mumsnetter who posts some lovely picture's of her pet rats. I never thought I'd say lovely and rat in the same sentence.
My mother told me this happened to her once.

LakieLady · 22/06/2017 20:15

This is why every house needs a terrier or two. My lakeland despatches rats with one shake of her head. She's a lean, mean killing machine.

I don't think we have much of a rat problem any more, I haven't found a dead one in the garden for a few months.

neveradullmoment99 · 22/06/2017 20:15

Oh dear god!!!
