AIBU to never use my toilet again? *light hearted*

I was happily watching TV when I heard an odd sound in my bathroom. Partner went to investigate, thinking maybe I had left a tap slightly on. He walks in and there was a RAT in my toilet!

I then had to fish it out as he was too scared. I was very cool, calm and collected and went about collecting the rat. I now realise that I just fished a dirty maybe pooey germ and possibly diseased infested rat out of my loo.

Would it be AIBU to bleach the whole house and have a bath with disinfectant in?! Or do I just get the toilet filled in and block off that part of the house?

Arghhh this is my irrational fear Shock now it's not so irrational. Panic!

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:24

It is mine too now maxy! After a quick google the Daily fail has quite a few "articles" on people getting bitten on the bum, thankfully I went to the loo about half an hour before the rat incident... that thought is quite unsettling.

Alive?!

SweetChickadee · 22/06/2017 19:26

I'd have flushed it out of panic I think Blush

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:27

Very much alive and trying to climb out allegretto!

Id be instructing estate agents by now.

Giraffeelephantgrape · 22/06/2017 19:32

Urggh this is one of my biggest fears, not good at all. You're very brave to have fished it out

PacificDogwod · 22/06/2017 19:32

Brilliant! Grin
I am very impressed at your bravado.

HOW exactly did you get it out?? Blow by blow account please.

AnnaNimmity · 22/06/2017 19:34

what did you do with the rat?

OutnumberedbyFurchesters · 22/06/2017 19:34

What did you do with it once it was out?!?!

Gave me the shudders! Shock

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:35

DrSpin I'm sure if we act fast we would get it on the market by the weekend. What if another visiter popped up on a viewing though?

I have heard this story on mumsnet before - not that I mean you are repeating it but that someone else had the same experience and I've been scared of it ever since. Argh I shall have to hang on all night now!

Floggingmolly · 22/06/2017 19:36

Did you just reach in and pull it out with your bare hands?
I'd have flushed the bugger right back to where he came from!

squoosh · 22/06/2017 19:37

How did you remove him? Did you scoop him up with your bare hand? Or did you use a towel? And where is he now?

So many ratty questions 🐀

You sound like a good person to have around in a crisis!

PhoenixJasmine · 22/06/2017 19:38

😱😱😱

What floor is the toilet on?

Nightmare!

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:38

I emptied a plastic box usually used for cleaning products, I then put on an apron (now sounds silly :s) a pair of rubber gloves, then a pair of gardening gloves and then another rubber glove over the top. just went in full steam, grabbed the rat and plopped it into the plastic box!

I am a big wuss and didn't want to kill the rat :( where we live backs on to a field with a sort of wooded area between the garden and field so I just opened the box and let it scamper out into the trees. I have no idea what the correct protocol is for rat dispatching I hope I didn't do the wrong thing!

my partner flushed the loo but the rat just looked at him in the eye and did a stealthy doggy paddle

The rat was thinking 'I haven't made it this far pal for my plans to be scuppered by a scaredy cat with a flusher'

DoubleHelix79 · 22/06/2017 19:41

Something is obviously wrong with me, because my first thought was 'oh, the poor rat, I hope it's ok' Grin
I have thing for rodents though.

ncblue · 22/06/2017 19:43

This was my nightmare as a child, I used to sit down, quickly stand up before sitting down or sometimes hover above the seat and pee, incase of snakes/rats/aliens suddenly wanting to bite my bum and now your telling me this could actually happen ShockShockShock. goes back to hover peeing

MotherofPearl · 22/06/2017 19:44

Good lord OP, that was pretty brave of you. And frankly heroic, returning it to the outdoors and all. I actually think I'd cry with fear if confronted by a rat in my loo. Blush

wevecomeonholidaybymistake · 22/06/2017 19:46

Christ on a bike. That is all I can manage to say.

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:49

I think I might have ratty dreams, what if it comes back because it had such a good time during round one?!

I am a big animal lover too helix, but also not a big fan of cute things that may have been swimming next to my neighbours poo..

MissBlueskies · 22/06/2017 19:49

How can a rat get into your toilet?

Bleepinghell11 · 22/06/2017 19:50

Bleepingcat was utterly useless too, he was busy sleeping and was not disturbed by me
crashing around. USELESS.
