To ask my neighbour to move their trampoline slightly out of sight when I have viewers round to my house?

Trying to sell my house at the moment, although we are detached we are very very close to our neighbours house. The only thing really separating us from the trampoline is a 6ft fence. When you look out of the back bedrooms all you see is this looming big trampoline (gardens are quite small). AIBU?

how do you get on with them normally

HappyDaddy · 21/03/2007 13:13

Well...yes a bit. Why should neighbours rearrange their place for you?

Surely your viewers will expect to see families and their stuff on their own properties?

Iota · 21/03/2007 13:13

yes IMHO

isaidno · 21/03/2007 13:14

yes

Tortington · 21/03/2007 13:14

yeah i think so. where they pu theri trampoline is non of your business good luck

amynnixmum · 21/03/2007 13:14

I guess it depends on how difficult it would be for them to move it and store it somewhere else.

SoupDragon · 21/03/2007 13:15

No, you're not unreasonable to ask them if they'd mind but you would be unreasonable to expect them to do it.

MuminBrum · 21/03/2007 13:15

Sorry, yes. Why are you worrying about it anyway?

WayneAteAnEasterEgg · 21/03/2007 13:15

Yip!

ChippyMinton · 21/03/2007 13:15

if the gardens are small, would moving the trampoline make much difference anyway? I might ask them not to jump on it if i was having viewers - very offputting to have faces appearing over the fence.

amynnixmum · 21/03/2007 13:16

Trust me you could have a lot worse in the garden next door. One of our neighbours seems to use their garden as a dump. Its full of broken furniture etc.

TeeCee · 21/03/2007 13:16

Errr why does the exact loaction of next door trampoline efffect how you sell your house?

Yes, you are BU

twelveyeargap · 21/03/2007 13:16

Yes. I would think my neighbours were nuts if they asked us to do something like that. Sorry. It's perfectly acceptable to have a trampoline in your garden.

Broken fence, overgrown trees - then you'd be within your rights. Not on this though.

hippipotami · 21/03/2007 13:17

If it is a small garden, then whereever they move the trampoline, it is going to look huge and imposing. To be honest, nearest the fence is the best you are going to get as the fence blocks it out... If you are worried, nail some trellis to the top of the fence to hide the trampoline a bit more...

I think you are being a bit unreasonable, if they had their granny-knickers on the line in full display, or loads of rubbish in their garden fair enough, but a trampoline just implies that children live there.
No problems in my opinion.

BizzyDint · 21/03/2007 13:18

depends how you get on with them really.

where would they move it to if you have small gardens?

how long are you suggesting they move it for? will your house sell quickly? are you talking move it today, bring it back, move it again, for the next 3 months. or are you talking just move it for a couple of weeks?

Fimbo · 21/03/2007 13:18

Guess I am unreasonable then! . I didn't expect them to move it, I was just going to ask them to move it slightly over a bit where it wouldn't have been so noticeable. I will just leave it then, Victor Meldrew in the making me!

OP posts:
ArcticRoll · 21/03/2007 13:18

Yes.
What would be your reason for asking for them to move it?-do you think it would deter potential buyers?
I can't imagine it would affect their decision.

AitchYouBerk · 21/03/2007 13:18

i think it depends on how well you get on with your neighbours, really. i'm with soupy... you can ask them but you can't get crossed if they say no. but i would say that the estate agent asked...

funnypeculiar · 21/03/2007 13:19

Are people really likely not to buy your house due to view of trampolene??

nailpolish · 21/03/2007 13:19

i cant imagine someone thinking
"oh im not buying that house, the neighbours have a trampoline in the garden!"

hippipotami · 21/03/2007 13:19

Before I get a torrent of abuse about the granny knickers - it was said in jest

Also, used to live next door to a dear old lady who hung her knickers above fence height next to our patio. Croissant anyone?

WayneAteAnEasterEgg · 21/03/2007 13:19

Blimey!
Unless I am mistaken, the OP was told by everyone that she was BU and accepted the verdict. How flufy is this thread!!!
I'm surprised no one pointed out the dangers of trampolining, or looking our of windows!!!

BizzyDint · 21/03/2007 13:20

fwiw, my gran's new neighbours have stuck an enormous trampline in their back graden and my gran thinks it's hilarious watching the kids, the mum, the dad and friends bouncing about, she's never seen anything like it. so you'll be fine if you have an 85 year old coming to look round your house..

Fimbo · 21/03/2007 13:21

Well one viewer did mention it, which got me thinking

lionheart · 21/03/2007 13:22
