for being annoyed at friend-and-neighbour who refuses to hold a set of keys for me?

Hi,

I asked a friend who lives across the road from me to hold a set of keys in case we lose all our keys and get locked out.

She refused on the grounds that she values our friendship to risky losing it if something happened because she had a set.

I am really annoyed at her. I always thought friends were supposed to help each other out, and to me it shows how "fragile" she thinks our friendship is...

Am I being unreasonable?

oh, fgs, i'd be annoyed with her too.

zookeeper · 21/03/2007 08:58

it seems a bit odd I agree but some people just don't like the responsibility, I suppose. Not worth losing a friendship over

ledodgy · 21/03/2007 08:59

Perhaps she's done it for someone in the past and had a bad experience?

Whoooosh · 21/03/2007 09:00

What is likely to happen "becasue she has a set" ffs?

You are not being unreasonable-she is.

We have a couple of friends who have sets of keys just in case and we do the same for them-no big deal.

Cappuccino · 21/03/2007 09:00

could be she has had a bad experience in the past

do you want to tell me my worst ever spare keys story?

believe me you won't want to give anyone your keys after hearing it

earlgrey · 21/03/2007 09:00

There's none as queer as folk ...

I'd be a bit taken aback, but as ZK says, nothing to lose a friendship over. Perhaps she had a bad experience holding keys for someone in the past - you never know.

Miaou · 21/03/2007 09:01

Possibly. Maybe she's really forgetful/disorganised and is worried about losing them. Maybe she's held keys for someone before and they've gone missing and she's lost a friend as a result. Maybe she is scared of taking on such a responsibility (and sees it as perhaps a bigger issue than it is in reality).

unknownrebelbang · 21/03/2007 09:01

You're being unreasonable.

She's obviously not comfortable with looking after the keys, and she's been honest with you.

ledodgy · 21/03/2007 09:01

Maybe she lost someone's keys before and it broke up a friendship, maybe she knows some dodgy people and she doesn't want them to risk getting hold of it, maybe she's a secret cleptomaniac and doesn't want to be tempted?

ledodgy · 21/03/2007 09:02

Cross posts Miaou

staceym11 · 21/03/2007 09:04

cappuchino do tell!!!

oh btw i dont really think you're being unreasonable, the only reason we never did this for out neighbors is they could climb over our back fence instead!!!

earlgrey · 21/03/2007 09:04

LOL legaroo!

Miaou · 21/03/2007 09:04
Grin
powder28 · 21/03/2007 09:04

Cappuccino what is your key story?

earlgrey · 21/03/2007 09:04

Ooops, ledodgy, sorry!

mm22bys · 21/03/2007 09:10

I actually wished I hadn't ask her! She didn't actually refuse outright, just asked for time to think about it (which I took as a refusal). I emailed her back and told her not to worry about it.

It's no wonder I try so hard not to rely on other people!

So what do you do with your spare keys?

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 21/03/2007 09:10

okay

but believe me you will forget all about the OP

and this is not an urban myth, it is a genuine court case (used to be a reporter)

So Couple A. Mrs A is always having problems with her clothes. They are always crumpled and marked and she has had to take them back to the dry cleaners to complain because there were marks on them that were not there when she took them to be cleaned. This goes on for a good while.

The couple go away for weekends etc and one day they discover that a neighbour, who had been given a key some time ago (but they had forgotten) has been visiting their house when they are away at weekends/holidays and wanking on her clothes

True story. So go on. Give your keys to your neighbours now if you want to.

Miaou · 21/03/2007 09:12

(but also a little bit )

staceym11 · 21/03/2007 09:12

eeeewwww.......nice!!!

maybe a female neighbor then? lol

q7 · 21/03/2007 09:12

Hillarious!

powder28 · 21/03/2007 09:12

That is as goodas teh burglars who broke into someones house and stole everything except the toothbrushes and left a camera....

ledodgy · 21/03/2007 09:13

OMG Cap am pmsl at the wank story!

After my mum died one of her friends gave me a key to their house and told me to let myself in at anytime. I never did of course and we didn't keep in touch and I still have the key. I do sometimes look at it and sigh wistfully remmebering their great wine collection.

GibbonInARibbon · 21/03/2007 09:14

pmsl - just spat coffee on my keyboard!

EEEWWWWWW

IntergalacticWalrus · 21/03/2007 09:20

OMG, that wanking story is hilarious!!!!

DP's ex wife's neighbour used to nick her undies of the line. I bet she never gave him a key.

I give my keys to an old dear who lives a few doors down if we go anywhere. She's 86. I think her athritis probably inhibits any masturbation. However, it's possible she could be lending my house to crack whores or for all night raves

powder28 · 21/03/2007 09:20

In response to the OP I suppose your friend wants to avoid any situations that might arise over them having a key to your house. They probably dont want to tempt fate.

You could have another thread on here 'I gave my friend a key to my house and my house was burgled and my friend cant find the key....etc'
