You sound like you live in fantasy Scandinavia. Which bit of Norway do you live in?

FelixtheMouse · 20/06/2017 21:30

What the hell has this to do with Brighton? Peacehaven, where this happened is miles away.

beachdream · 20/06/2017 21:40

This is a very illogical post. Crime happens everywhere, villages, towns, cities across the entire world including Norway.
I am from Brighton and still live here - it's largely open minded, tolerant and happy as a general observation but if you're looking for no-crime you'll he to try a different world.

IrritatedUser1960 · 20/06/2017 21:42

I live in the area and I personally think Eastbourne is much more dangerous, drug lords, alcoholics on every corner, gangs, burnt body of a woman left on the beach. When I did NHS home visits there, there were places I refused to go alone.

IrritatedUser1960 · 20/06/2017 21:45

Peacehaven is only 7 miles from Brighton felix, it's full of chavs though. Everyone calls it Pisshaven.

Ceto · 20/06/2017 23:27

How is Scandinavia perfect? There were, for example 24 murders in Norway last year. Why is that OK whilst one attack in Peacehaven is not?

SaucyJack · 21/06/2017 09:24

That's my cousin you're talking about there irritated.

He used to be such a nice little boy.

YouWouldntLetItLie · 21/06/2017 09:45

But I miss living in a fun, tolerant place, with colourfully minded people

[serious face} OP, I think you should move to the big IKEA outside Bristol. Fun, colourful, relatively sanitary and totes Scandinavian.

Almondmilk · 22/06/2017 13:00

@YouWouldntLetItLie Good idea, but I don't eat meatballs!

So why leave your perfect place?

Are you finding the locals intolerant and not fun? You may find the locals like that anywhere you live. Those who find the locals tolerant and interesting also tend to find that anywhere they live.

ScrommidgeClaryAndSpunt · 22/06/2017 13:15

OP, as someone born and raised in Brighton, I can tell you that Peacehaven has had a reputation for being a shithole, inhabited by unpleasant people, for pretty much its entire existence. Look at Graham Greene's description of it in Brighton Rock, for a start.

The thing is, you are trying to compare crime rates in the UK (pop 65+ million) with the likes of Norway (pop just over 5 million) - you're not comparing like with like and of course it will make the UK look bad.

RunYouJuiceBitch · 22/06/2017 14:02

Assaults happen in every city, but not every city has a pier to get blown off.💨

Imagine if you were assaulted on the pier and the wind blew you and/or your assailant away into the sea.

SeagullsStoleMyChurro · 22/06/2017 14:08

Just downloaded Brighton Rock for my Kindle, good recommendation Grin

glintwithpersperation · 22/06/2017 14:22

I've lived in Brighton for 25 years. I've never been attacked with a knife, axe or brick. In fact I've never been punched or slapped. Not have my children, friends or husband. I did once trip over on the way to the pub in front of a police officer.
I have drunk a fair few coffees with almond milk and visited a vegan cafe or two.

TrollMummy · 22/06/2017 15:03

Probably no more than anywhere else in the U.K. but I certainly think it is less safe than it used to be 10 years ago.

goingonabearhunt1 · 22/06/2017 15:05

I'm Grin at 'looting in Lewes' and 'havock in Hassocks'. I'm from that neck of the woods and agree that Brighton is no worse than anywhere else and I've lived and worked in several cities in the UK, in various areas of the coutry. But maybe don't go to Lewes Bonfire if you're easily frightened! And as many pp have said Peacehaven is in no way Brighton so you cannot say they're the same place. I've spent time in both btw and had friends who lived in both and they all seem to have survived.

goingonabearhunt1 · 22/06/2017 15:07

Oh yes glint the OP should definitely watch out for the vegan cafes! Grin
