Even the Shetland Islands have had assaults

Not to mention a 3 season TV drama series devoted to their many murders.

Scrumpernickel · 20/06/2017 11:58

Drivebys in Derby
Flashings in Farnborough

paxillin · 20/06/2017 12:08

Norway is second only to Estonia for heroin overdose deaths in Europe. I assume some crime goes with that rampant drug abuse.

TinselTwins · 20/06/2017 12:11

I used to live in a peaceful little village - there was crime there! There was even murder! it wasn't as frequent simply because the area was sparcely populated

There's "more" murder and assault in cities because they're more hightly densly populated, not because you're more likely as an individual to be murdered or assaulted, or because the average person is more bad.

When you REALLY need to worry about a town, is when the assualts and murders STOP making the news! If it's still "news" chances are it's still shocking/rare enough to not affect the average citizen directly

Ninabean17 · 20/06/2017 12:14

I live in one of the most peaceful places, crime level is low, (lots of oldies) but a few years back a man was found in concrete behind his shop. My BIL also got stabbed here just before Christmas and nearly died. Crime is everywhere unfortunately, but I wouldn't move away from fear of it.

Ceto · 20/06/2017 12:14

It happened once in Norway

But it happened only once in Peacehaven. Why is Norway safe despite someone murdering 77 people in two separate attacks there, but Brighton is too dangerous because someone got attacked in a town nearby? It just isn't logical.

AdalindSchade · 20/06/2017 12:15

You need to see a doctor about your anxiety. Genuinely.

rosie1959 · 20/06/2017 12:20

I love Brighton always found it a very friendly laid back place Only harm is to my wallet when parking the car at hotel £25 a night !

Fl0ellafunbags · 20/06/2017 12:21

Midsomer Common is lovely, as is St Mary Mead

😂

BitchQueen90 · 20/06/2017 12:29

Something like that could literally happen anywhere. If you're looking for somewhere with no crime you won't find anywhere at all.

I live in the suburbs of a city and I felt less safe in the Devonshire seaside town I lived in before! Not a lot there to do for young people so the drug use was rife and unemployment huge.

cliffdiver · 20/06/2017 13:25

Peacehaven is not Brighton.

On the whole Peacehaven is a fairly quiet and uneventful town.

There are, however, some 'rough' pubs where fights at the weekend are (sadly) common place.

IloveBanff · 20/06/2017 13:49

TrueBlueYorkshire "My only real observation is there are a lot of young people mulling around during the day. Not sure if they are unemployed or tourists."

They're not necessarily either unemployed or tourists. It may just be their day/s off. My daughter lives and works in Brighton but has Tuesday and Wednesday off, for example.

GoldTippedFeather · 20/06/2017 13:56

It was remarkable enough to make the newspaper. If it was an everyday occurrence no one would bat an eyelid, then you would be right to feel unsafe. The media's reporting of crime compared to how much crime actually occurs is wildly out of proportion.

LIZS · 20/06/2017 13:58

And students , large resident student population and language schools.

IloveBanff · 20/06/2017 14:13

LIZS Good point. I'd forgotten about the University there.

unfortunateevents · 20/06/2017 15:22

And University of Sussex which is only 15 mins on the train from Brighton.

PinguForPresident · 20/06/2017 15:41

Havoc in Hassocks?

There was a burst water main a couple of weeks ago. Does that count?

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 20/06/2017 16:37

Whatever you do, OP, don't take the advice about moving to a remote Scottish island. I saw a documentary about such a place, it was chilling. Even the local policeman wasn't safe. The weird islanders imprisoned him in a wicker structure and burnt him. Why do you think the rest of us congregate around major towns and cities? Safety in numbers, that's why.

SaucyJack · 20/06/2017 16:44

TBH the biggest and most violent threat to Brightonians are the bastard seagulls.

DD3 got stalked round the Pavilion gardens last week for a poxy stale oatcake.

threesocksmorgan · 20/06/2017 16:45

SaucyJack oh yes I got tormented by one ih Hove last week

Outcomesthebunnyofdeath · 20/06/2017 16:48

There are no trees in Peacehaven. That's even weirdererer.

TheFirstMrsDV · 20/06/2017 17:10

I really want to live in Brighton

Bloody DH put the mockers on that 15 years ago and I still haven't forgiven him

Almondmilk · 20/06/2017 20:38

Haha, thanks all for your replies, even the mocking ones.

I guess I have the scandinavian symdrom (thinking that crimes are everywhere but not here) + the japanese syndrom (scared of dirt because it's so clean here). But I miss living in a fun, tolerant place, with colourfully minded people . I have to ponder my move as it sounds crazy to leave perfect Scandinavia...that's why I sound nuts with my questions on MN! ;)

Your purse will be well assaulted by the parking charges and many of the meters only take cards not money

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/06/2017 21:23

I wouldn't risk Lewes, have you seen the way the locals carry on there? Shock
