To refuse to iron anything unless it's for work

I work part time, I have an almost 1 year old, DH works 40+ hours a week and it's a struggle just to keep on top of the washing and other household tasks! So I don't iron. I iron my uniform, because I work in a professional setting (and yes I will iron DS's uniform when he's older if I cant get away with it) but am I really a bad person for not seeing the point of ironing ordinary day clothes? Like why is it even a thing anyway?

Mother in law tidies my living room when she's babysitting and DS is in bed, I really do appreciate it. But she makes a point of saying she's left me an ironing pile if I have clothes drying. And when she's gone I cackle and throw it all on hangers and straight in the wardrobe then enjoy my evening. Grin

Anyone else? Or am I going to have to learn better ways?

Fuck ironing. I'm the same as you op, only when necessary. I no longer have a tumble.dryer so I have to do it with shirts now but it just do.it as I'm. Getting ready for work. I also just iron it on my bed instead of an ironing board because I'm a fucking maverick.

I have friends who do the non ironing thing, you can tell on a lot of items.

It takes me less than an hour to iron everything a week so worth it to me for the nice look.

bananafish81 · 19/06/2017 23:36

Non ironer, tumble dry everything (even now in this weather, sorry to shock people!)

I cheat and drop shirts into the dry cleaner directly opposite my house for wash and press - I can get 4 shirts for a fiver that are beautifully ironed (much better than I could ever do) and frankly that's a bargain to not have to do any ironing - I don't drink, and that's the cost of just one G&T!

I have a lot of dresses that need ironing otherwise they look like I've been to bed in them, and I iron DH and DS's shirts. They iron everything else though as my ironing skills aren't up to their military standards. I wonder if I will ever own up that I have cultivated this inability to iron trousers properly just so that I don't have to do it?

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2017 23:55

I just do it on a 'need to iron' basis. I could never stand there and do a 'pile of ironing' as some people do.

This means that sometimes I end up ironing 1 or 2 items every day/every other day, but that literally takes minutes.

I really do hate seeing crumpled clothes though, especially on children who obviously don't get a choice.

Hi everyone. My name is JoshLymanJr ("Hi, JoshLymanJr") and I have an ironing problem. It's been one day since my last pile of ironing.

I iron everything - bed sheets, DPs work clothes, DCs school clothes, DCs playing out clothes, jeans, nighties, dishtowels. I like an episode of The West Wing on while I do it...

MonkeyPieMama · 20/06/2017 01:42

The last time I ironed anything was when my eldest was a new-ish born... I realised it was far too time consuming and gave up. Children are now 4 & 2 and I don't even own an iron! Tumble drying and hanging straight up sorts them out

NothingRhymesWithOrange · 20/06/2017 03:15

I don't own an iron either. It's liberating!

I have a job where I can wear what I like, but if I had to wear shirts for work, I'd do what bananafish does and pay someone else a fiver to do the lot (Another non-drinker here too!)

I have to join every ironing thread to repeat the 11th commandment.

Thou shalt not iron.

P1nkP0ppy · 20/06/2017 16:43

I like wearing natural fibres and I like ironing virtually everything - including bedding.
I hate my clothes feeling crumpled.
Each to their own I say 🙂

Me and DP never iron, not even shirts; we just shake out and hang to dry flat. The only time I've ever ironed is a shirt for an interview. But then we are both scruffs. One of the first things MIL gave us when we moved in together was an iron; she was obviously concerned about the lack of ironing going on. The iron has been used once Grin
