To wish that someone would discover my secrit?

We have magnetic letters on our fridge, which my brother bought me just before we last went on holiday, in memory of the previous holiday which had magnetic letters on the fridge, where we indulged in a childish game of editing the other person's words by as few letters as possible. The best bit was when he wrote "homophobic nutter" and I changed it to "homophonic butter". Anyway...

The letters went on holiday, and came home and now they live on the fridge. For a while, we were changing the writing several times a day, now it can be weeks before inspiration strikes.

A few months ago I was doing some colouring with a child, and came home with a picture of an octopus, which I proceeded to put on the fridge, stuck there with the letters "octapus" (it's a cheap set - only one of each letter). Later, I decided to write the word "secrit" behind the picture - it's now stuck on at the corners with other magnets, with a small but I think noticable bulge where "secrit" is written.

That was about a month ago, and no one's seen it! I keep checking, because I'm sure if someone found it, they would change it to notify me they'd seen it, but no one has! Sad

So, AIBU to wish that someone would discover my "secrit"?

And whilst I'm waiting, what are the similarly silly things your family does?

Cocoa we say "escapea!" when someone drops a pea Grin

natjojo · 24/06/2017 17:33

My husband received an aubergine in the post. That was 15 years ago and to this day we have no idea who sent it!

Who is this friend of yours???

Thisisnotreallymyname · 24/06/2017 17:49

Whenever a leaving card or birthday card was passed round at work, I would always sign my name, then in different writing I would sign it also with " been great knowing you , love Vera"
There was no one called Vera at work - used to picture them wracking their brains at home when they looked at it. Amused me highly 😂

I love this thread.

When I first met DH, he drove a Fiat Panda, which we decided looked like the car should be called Pedro. Pedro is no longer, but whenever we see a Pedro on the road it's a race to call it first using the colour (so blue Pedro, lemon Pedro etc). We award points based on rarity of the colour, but that value changes daily. My DH miscalled a Pedro the other day (it was one we see all the time on a local road so is a DCP- Doesn't Count Pedro) and he lost 3 million Pedro points. We ring or text each other to call a Pedro if it's safe to do so. DH once accidentally text his ex just saying "black Pedro" then had to explain to her that it wasn't as bad as it sounded.

My friend sent me a rubber duck in the post, with 'Hello Ducky' written on its bum in Sharpie.

JustDanceAddict · 24/06/2017 19:44

I have to give my late dad credit for this one, but mange tout peas are 'man get out' - I have carried this one forward with my kids!!
Also, when I was a kid, my dad used to walk me to places and we'd play 'wobbly man', whereby he'd start doing a silly walk up random people's drives and I had to call him back 'nooo!'

Imabadmummy · 24/06/2017 20:40

I don't voice my dog.....but I really should....we have conversations but I don't tend to say her bits out loud....

Now, what kind of voice would she have........

PookieDo · 24/06/2017 20:47

My kids helped me decorate some rooms in the house with magnolia paint over the top of existing magnolia paint. I moved out of my bedroom for a couple of days to let it dry.

They had written SHIT in big letters above my bed and when the light shone on the wall I was lying in bed and could faintly see what they had done

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 24/06/2017 20:55

If DH is going up the stairs in front of me, I will run up behind him and help him up with a well placed head but in the butt. I also still hide from my family to jump out and scare them.
I used to put googly eyes on random stuff - bananas in the kids' lunch boxes, on a tin of soup, on my husband's work shoes etc. Used to make me giggle Grin

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 24/06/2017 21:00

Oh, and I've just remembered something else DH and I have been doing for almost 20 years. When we change the bedding, we race each other to do up the buttons or poppers at the bottom of the duvet cover, shouting, "My win!" but we also have to check that the winner has done more poppers or it doesn't count. If he's away and I'm changing it on my own, I'll text him to announce that, "My win!"

SaintEyning · 24/06/2017 21:16

We salute the signs when we leave or return into our county (West Sussex). I went to Brighton last week and Portsmouth today so lots of saluting going on.

Dibbles1967 · 24/06/2017 21:33

I used to play a game with the children when they were younger "word of the day". I gave them a word in the morning, told them how to spell it & the meaning & they had to try to use it as many times as possible that day at school.

One morning it was "platitude". My very annoying (he would say funny) partner said "oh, is it the duck-billed type or the regular one?" Even now, they still say platypus instead of platitude ...

The other one is "I feel like a zombie" to which the reply is "where do you expect me to get one of those at this time of night?!"

I miss it when the children used to mix up their words:

Ambulance - Allilulance
Washing machine - washing sheema
Cement mixer - Ment cemixer

Aw, life was so simple then

OhHelp0hNo · 24/06/2017 21:38

Singles Shock you have just helped me figure out what DS1 is saying instead of cement mixer, I always thought it was "Mensa mixer" but "ment cemixer" makes much more sense!! Grin

OhHelp0hNo · 24/06/2017 21:38

Don't know why my phone changed Dibbles to singles Hmm

Onlygingergothinthevillage · 24/06/2017 21:46

DH bought me a cuddly pig about a year ago. Pig can often be found balanced on the curtain rail, standard lamp or at the top of tall pieces of furniture. He 'climbs' there himself.....
We have to stop every & dance when certain tunes come on the radio.
I sing loudly in public to whatever I hear playing ( my teenagers hate me)

CattyMcCatface · 24/06/2017 21:47

When my sister and I phone each other we always put a silly voice on ( either really posh, or a foreign accent) and try and fool each other. I'm winning, I once got her to put the phone down twice trying to sell her double glazing, on the third call I started giggling and she realised it was me!

We also do the Taggart quote/Scottish thing whenever a murder crops up on TV anywhere "There's bin a muhr-dr" - you have to, it's the law.

If we see a mini (real one not BMW one) we have to shout MINI.

Jaja101 · 24/06/2017 22:21

Our cat hasn't got a voice but we talk to her like she is a small child who understands everything we say and she answers back in miaows as if she knows what is being said and we carry on the conversation eg.
You know you are not supposed to sleep on a pile of clothes. You are very naughty.
Miaow, miaow.
That is no excuse, I have told you and told you.
Grumbling miaow with sheepish look.
Get off those clothes now or there will be no treats later.
Quiet miaow and gets off clothes.
Also we all in our house like to scare each other by jumping out from hiding places sometimes with masks on. If you hear a scream it's assumed someone has been hiding. I dread to think if someone was in real trouble. Bit dangerous really. 😬

plaintomatopasta · 24/06/2017 22:23

@Supersoaryflappypigeon I had to look that joke up yesterday as it was mentioned at school by someone when a message went round about needing a fan

@NellieFiveBellies I'm going to do the kiss thing with my 2yo he'll love it!

@Mintybuttons we had a guest at our wedding that did the clothes peg trick on everyone except me. The wedding photos are littered with them 😆 @harderandharder2breathe What is the rude meaning?

We used to constantly find places to hide and jump out at each other (mainly my DS and I) but it all ended when we were looking round empty houses one day and I found a wardrobe first. I hid knowing my sister loves to be nosy and look in cupboards... she stood back knowing I love to hide... my grandma opened the door and I was mid BOO before I realised 😬 at 83 I'm amazed she's still with us! The game stopped after that for safety reasons and the fact my grandma told us never to play that again!

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/06/2017 22:23

As a teen my room was being redecorated . I wrote 'Bob says Opportunity Knocks', I have no idea why. Big letters too. So that's under the wallpaper. As Mr Monkhouse is now deceased, I like to think it's a nice tribute.
Our cat is half siamese so we say he has the voice of the siamese cats in Lady and the Tramp. He is very very smart and is growing thumbs so he can take over the universe

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/06/2017 22:28

The cat gets a lot of voles and shrews (brought into the house) so many 'hilarities' around those.. he's having his vole au vents/ Lord Vole de Mort / Shrove Shrewsday / came here of his own vole-ition

VinIsGroot · 24/06/2017 22:37

Of you make s noise when you yawn it's a "shout yawn!" And you gave to shout... Shout yawn. Every Friday DH comes home from work and shouts ...it's Friday!!!!!!!!
DD has a bear called love bear but call her pomelia bear and she has a posh accent.
If it's time for lunch ...you must sing the cbeebies tune!
If I'm honest ...I could go on and on...I think my family are cracked!

Dibbles1967 · 25/06/2017 00:55

We had a downstairs loo in our old house that we called Narnia because it was always effing freezing.

Every Saturday when it was pocket money time, my dad used to tear the corners from a £5 note to give to us "That's about 50p" Unfortunately I can't keep up that tradition with the new £5... although I doubt 50p pocket money would be acceptable anyway.

Marymoosmum14 · 25/06/2017 01:16

Me and my dad changed some of the names of the soaps, coronation street became constipation street, Eastenders became Westenders and his favourite Holby City became Hold me Titty and he calls Huddersfield Uddersfelt.
There are lots of little things me and DH do but I cant think of any right now.

ladybird69 · 25/06/2017 01:35

I used to have the letters spelling COOK in my kitchen until one rather rowdy party until one of the 'o's went missing so it spelt cok. I found the missing letter almost 11 months later in my best friends bedroom, she'd been laughing her head off Grin

ladybird69 · 25/06/2017 01:53

When my children and their friends were younger I'm ashamed to say that sometimes when driving around roundabouts I would go around and around several times whilst telling them in a somewhat manic voice how much I hated roundabouts and that I would just close my eyes and go for it!!! My kids would be killing themselves laughing the new friends not so much!!!! They did forgive me once they realised that it was a joke bless them.
