No it isnt easier, no it's not less work and no DH you don't actually do anything like all of it!
Fuck me, it's 160 degrees out there, my rage is hotter than the damn BBQ which wasn't lit in time of course and naturally I have started things in the oven because when the BBQ does get going it will incinerate the outside of everything and leave a lovely warm core of pure food poisoning within...
AIBU surely we could get them banned, smoke, emissions or something??

Some women like them.

But if you don't like it, OP; then you need to stay OUT of the whole thing.

If your husband wants to give himself food poisoning, let him. Make yourself something to eat, and be done with it.

Perhaps, when he actually has to do the whole work, he might grow less fond of it. Or learn how to do it properly so it is not burnt on the outside and raw on the inside.

If I must attend a barbecue I deliberately turn up very late so as to miss out on all the barbecueyness. We live in Spain where they seem to be rare, at least where we live, although there are outdoor cafés you can go to where they serve barbecued food.

My neighbour is having a BBQ. I get to sit and eat the food and drink wine with no cooking Wink she's handing plates over the fence to me

No missing in socialising either.

For flies water and pennies is all you need. We never have flies.

We are having our 4th bbq of the week today.

All my idea. We had all the neighbours round last night. Was great.

I love a BBQ. But then my dh does it all so I just sit back and relax. Shame he isn't in the mood for one today!

YADNBU! I hate them and oh, the smell!

As a vegetarian, it's never worth it for me. Still, at least Dh cooks and the dishwasher cleans up.

You only get food poisoning if you don't know about food hygiene and how to cook on a BBQ. I've never had it from any BBQ, we or any of my friends and family, have had.

I like them if someone else is cooking.

My tip is vegetarian sausages . Once they're charcoal flavored they all taste pretty much the same with the added bonus the dc wont have diarrhoea for the next 24 hrs.

I used to love BBQs did the whole lot, start to finish. Interesting foods and salads. Cooked nicely and paid attention to hygiene.

Run out of steam now. Maybe I'll start up again in a few years.

YAB a bit U but I understand you.

I have suggested barbecues in the past. I don't tend to so much now, because a gas-fired hotplate isn't really any different to cooking in the oven, regardless of what Aussie DH thinks.
BUT if he decides to do it, then good for him - he gets to do ALL the cleaning and prep of the barbecue, and all the cooking too (although we normally share the cooking anyway) - and if he doesn't clean it up properly afterwards, then he has to clean it next time before he uses it. Win win for me!

I said it yesterday and we did - and my DP did every last thing while I sat around drinking rum and talking to my friend who was invited so.. just learn to do it properly is what I say.

YANBU OP!

I hate BBQs. Too much effort, too much work, waste of time. Can't be arsed with them!

I haven't read all the thread but YES! A thousand times yes! Bloody bbqs. We are having one too as a 'treat' as its Father's Day and dh loves them.
It will give me a rest. Apparently.

A friend of mine said the other day BBQs are like boats.

They are great fun but the best way to enjoy them is to know someone who has one.

Having your own is too much hassle, too expensive and too much work.

I'm inclined to agree. I love BBQs but other peoples.

Anyone who lives or has lived in a genuine hot place, where the BBQ is used so the oven/hob doesn't need to heat the house up even more (either make it boiling inside, or working the air-con like crazy) All choose to use the barbeque in very hot weather, regardless of their sex.

The other group who choose to BBQ are those who feel they need an excuse to get drunk in the garden. Those people are weird, they do tend to be more often male though.

Just read some of the gems on here to DH. He says MN should just have one master thread in AIBU titled: "Men: they're shit!" and let everyone get stuck in. Grin of course, when comes back from the kitchen with my cuppa, I'll point out at least 3 more are required: MILs, garden-shitting cats and parking, where the offensive parker's identity is unknown.

Well I had a BBQ last week because I have a young baby and no time to cook
Made a salad=3 minutes
Sliced peppers, onions and courgettes=10 minutes
Made burgers=15 minutes

We sat and had a drink whilst stuff cooked

I will be doing it again

I love BBQs. DH buys everything, scrubs the grill, makes the tricolore salad and the vegetable skewers. We have the guests bring the other extras. I slice baps and get people drinks.
