AIBU to go topless at the local outdoor swimming pool?

It's a glorious day & I'm at the local outdoor pool. It was a right hassle getting here (3 children under 5, queue to get in etc.) but now I'm here it's amazing! HOWEVER realised I've forgotten my bikini top!!! Not wearing a bra so can't use that instead. Going back for a bikini top isn't an option (it's a long round trip, would have to pay/queue again yadayadayada). This has made me think - Could I go topless? Im desperate for a swim and don't care about other people seeing my breasts. I'm not English and where I'm from going topless is more common. But here none of the women are topless.

Is it against the law? Would I be told off?

Would you go topless and if not why not?

stealthhippy I'm so envious of your lovely daily swim!

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 19/06/2017 20:09

Yes agree the one annoyed that they're going to an outdoor pool on a hot day really makes me lol. I've just come back from one! 😎

KindredSpirit1 · 19/06/2017 20:10

As sale, I totally agree with you as it is grossly unfair and archaic. Besides my moobs are probably big enough to be classed as breasts....The more people see nudity is normal, the better society will be. Just look at northern European countries who are relaxed about nudity and how it reflects in society especially among the young. I'm drifting off topic but honestly there's a lot of men who are adult enough not to ogle (unfortunately there are also a lot who haven't reached maturity yet) I'm afraid you would probably be asked to leave. Loved the "much hysterical pearl clutching" Somehow the cycle of not letting the children see breasts yet raising children to become level headed adults be addressed (pun not intended)

stealthhippy · 19/06/2017 20:55

@flyinggeese, it's wonderful. I lived here 15 years not knowing it was there, and now we really make the most. It's tucked away from sight except for passing walkers, and even though it's right near a railway line and an industrial estate, you're hidden away amongst the willows with swans, kingfishers, and even an otter sometimes

Yabu. Put them away.

PacificDogwod · 19/06/2017 21:08

stealthhippy, I luffs you Smile

allegretto · 19/06/2017 21:16

Topless sunbathing has probably gone out of fashion because of camera phones.

That's probably true. I used to do it all the time but I am a teacher and live in fear of one of my students taking a photo!

Nik2015 · 19/06/2017 21:25

I'm just impressed you can go braless after 3 children!

JenziW · 19/06/2017 21:28

This popped up on my fb with the usual misleading quote.
Started reading thinking, nope, which quickly turned into a why the helll not?! If you're ok with it then why shouldn't everyone else be. Like bfing in public, nothing wrong with it. I see you didn't do it though. No reason why it should be ok for men to go topless but not women!

mumoffour85 · 19/06/2017 21:51

It's not the done thing to go topless. Most outdoor swimming pools are full of families and hormonal teens. Do you really want men and teenage boys ogling your assets or trying to awkwardly avoid eye contact whilest prudes tut in disgust.... I think it's ok in your own garden and certain beaches etc but I think it may cause a few issues at a public pool.

Touchmybum · 19/06/2017 21:52

I wish some men weren't allowed to go topless...

Strygil · 19/06/2017 21:55

A lot would depend on what your breasts are like. Perky and pink-nippled would be fine, but worn out bubs like razor strops would probably led to protests.

PacificDogwod · 19/06/2017 21:57

Perky and pink-nippled would be fine, but worn out bubs like razor strops would probably led to protests.

But why?? Confused

Bodies are bodies.
I accept social norms, but it does not harm to be aware of the ludicrousness of them.

SmileEachDay · 19/06/2017 22:02

Do you really want men and teenage boys ogling your assets

That would be up to the men and teenager boys to stop, wouldn't it.

Strygll You're joking, yes?

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/06/2017 22:05

Stealthhippy..Southampton area?

eulmh · 19/06/2017 22:36

It wouldn't be classed as acceptable but I wish we were more relaxed in that way. But no you would be told to cover up.

SoupDragon · 19/06/2017 22:48

What have the Tories got to do with it? Confused

ComputerUserNotTrained · 19/06/2017 22:55

Jugs out for Jezza/tits in for Theresa. Isn't that obvious?

NannyRed · 19/06/2017 22:59

Ask yourself "would I go in naked had I forgotten my entire bikini/swimsuit?"

I think you already know the answer.

15thaugust · 19/06/2017 23:32

Get em out. How bad will the reaction be? You can always cover up if asked politely, only and by a member of staff. It seems like a good percentage of us on here want to but are living in fear of the possible reaction. I used to always go topless in a lido in London to sunbathe, but as I was only one of 2 others doing it I would (ridiculously) put bikini top on when I got up to swim.

We seem to be getting more prudish. I noticed last summer in the south of France top less is no longer the norm there the birthplace of it, where when I went as a teenager it was de rigeur.

Prudishness everywhere. I think it is a sign of bad times. Time to get them out again I say!

twoflakesanight · 19/06/2017 23:52

My God OP I am sorry you've been inflicted to some of the unpleasant, judgemental crap on here. Only got to page 3 and I'm seething. Fine to go topless in my opinion and I have at Brockwell Lido in London where I lived for years - used to be a whole section of people doing it though it's definitely petered out in recent years. NOT illegal; most people just think you're brave and are fine with it. Men ogle tits in tiny tops all the time -- actually seeing them in the flesh will remove some of the mystery for everybody. So much comfier too than having to wear a wet, heavy top. And good for you getting out with all the little ones. I used to trek to the Lido all the time with a trolley of stuff and my two when they were toddler/baby and it's a great thing to do. Cannot believe the hate on here. UGH.

Nixie60 · 20/06/2017 08:24

Well said twoflakes

merryxmas9 · 20/06/2017 08:49

In Paris it wasn't allowed to wear bikini, ladies had to wear one piece and men had to wear speedos not trunks.

Prideinmyplace2 · 20/06/2017 08:50

Yes, free the boobs! If someone ticks you off you exactly away until the cows come home...lol

I think we are too prudish as a nation. In Germany I received a stern telling off for entering the sauna with my bikini on! It was either nine swimwear or no entry!
