What DO you like doing in the heat?

As a change from the threads moaning about the heat, let's have one about the things we like doing, or are looking forward to. No moaning about downsides allowed, there are many other threads for that! Grin

Some of mine are:

Being barefoot in the garden.
Relaxing in the paddling pool. (We have an adult-sized one!)
Swimming outdoors - I'm especially fond of Hampstead ponds.

I love going to the beach, and wearing less clothes.

Today was in the 40s here, so it's a good excuse to stay at home. Grin

I lived near Hampstead ponds in the 60's when I was a child, I have such happy memories of paddling there as a child Smile
I love gardening in this weather, I have big trees for shade and the cats usually come out and keep me company, I stick on radio 4 outside and it's hours of heaven.

Sparklingbrook · 17/06/2017 21:48

How does anyone like eating al Fresco? It's horrible.

Flies /wasps etc. Salad going warm.
Occasional breeze blowing stuff off the table.
Ice in your drink instantly melting.

Llanali · 17/06/2017 21:48

Riding in the summer evenings. DD, who is 3, and I have just come back from a hack :) just having a quick bit of quiche and salad before she goes to bed, and I can sit out and drink ice cold drinks watching the dogs mooch.
Early mornings when the dew steams off and the flat lands gradually shake off their shroud of mist, and drinking coffee with my book outside for breakfast :)

MsHooliesCardigan · 17/06/2017 21:50

Going to our local paddling pool.

What DO you like doing in the heat?
AtticusCactus · 17/06/2017 21:50

I live on a hot country which is currently in the middle of winter.
I have washing hanging around the house and drying dismally on the back verandah. So I'm going to say my washing being bone dry one hour from being put on the line. I bloody love it!
I also like the way my hot pink nail varnish looks on my tanned feet.

SaucyJack · 17/06/2017 21:50

Spending the money I've saved on the gas meter.

Tinkerbec · 17/06/2017 21:50

A cold one in a nice beer garden.

You're not in the UK then Lweji?

RocketPockets · 17/06/2017 22:46

Going to the beach, wearing my summer clothes, feeling the lovely warm sunshine, watching my ds play outside, a lovely cold drink outside, going to the gardens/park/splashpark and not getting cold, not worrying if I haven't got a jacket, sitting in a nice beer garden, going for a sunny walk, sitting in the pool. I love summer Smile

rinabean · 17/06/2017 22:52

I hate the heat unless I am in the sea, or at least in some water. Then it's the hotter the better. But I'm not a mermaid unfortunately and I live in Birmingham :(

I love how quickly washing dries! And I love all the strong smelling summer flowers, and the full hedgerows in the countryside, driving with the windows down. Fruit! Birds singing

I prefer early summer to late summer by a long mile but again if I'm in the sea the sky can do whatever awful sun things it likes

Victoria1083 · 17/06/2017 22:53

Shamelessly eating ice cream and massive bowls of salad. Tanning. Not having to wear tights and jackets. washing only takes 2 hours (as opposed to 2 days) to dry! What's not to like!?

FelixtheMouse · 17/06/2017 22:58

Drinking iced cider.

Iamastonished · 17/06/2017 23:25

My back garden smelled heavenly this evening. The honeysuckle has just started flowering and the smell is wonderful.

PeanutButterBunny · 17/06/2017 23:43

Turning on the air cond on full blast and lie on my fresh white bed sheet while reading a book.

Sallystyle · 18/06/2017 00:08

Reading on my kindle.. preferably with a nice Pina Colada

Going to the pub with my friend, mum or husband.

BTW I am not a big drinker at all but nothing better than an ice-cold tia maria or Pina Colada with dinner on a summer day.

Sitting in my friend's garden watching the kids play in the paddling pool.

Taking photos in the lovely golden hour light just before sunset/sunrise.

Taking the dogs for a walk.

Life, life is just better in the heat, as long as there is sun. Today was scorching but cloudy.

I LOVE the summer, and I love the heat. Another 10 weeks of this will do me! Walking around the garden in shorts, flip-flops, and a sleeveless vest, beads of sweat dripping down the back of my neck, (and my face, and my back,) the skin on my back and shoulders and arms stinging from the sun, the heat beating down on me, watering all my lovely flowers, the bees buzzing, the birds tweeting, the butterflies fluttering around the trees, lawnmowers humming, kids laughing and chatting in the street (kicking a footy about,) people walking their dogs and stopping to chat, friendly smiley neighbours planting new bedding plants and waving and chatting for a while, the sounds of the cows and sheep, going for walks around the village and the woodlands (not far from the village,) with the sun streaming through the trees, having the windows wide open in the house, shoo-ing flies away, slathering myself in after-sun, supping cold strawberry milk shake, and lying on the lawn with my novel.

What's not to like? Smile

toffeeboffin · 18/06/2017 00:32

Love the early morning when it's still cool but promise of heat later on.

Sleeping with the window open.

The gorgeous smell of flowers and grass.

Not having to bundle the kids to go outside.

Eating outside.

Lighter nights, more cycling.

Having coffee / breakfast on terraces.

But I do actually prefer Autumn to summer despite all the above.

notknownatthisaddress · 18/06/2017 00:34

Oh yeah - and light nights and long days, drying washing outside, doing the garden (I LOVE gardening!) taking photos, and going to the beach!!! Grin

pringlecat · 18/06/2017 00:35

I like going to Co-op. In this heat? All I enjoy is seeking out stores with air conditioning and staying there as long as possible before weirding out the staff. The Co-op is brilliant. It's icy, icy cold. I only shop there when it's too warm.

loraflora · 18/06/2017 01:03

Sitting out in the garden at night when it's just cooling down but still light. Waiting for my tomatoes and chillies to ripen in the greenhouse. Beer gardens. Day trips where it's not going to piss down. Summer festivals - I don't bother with the big ones any more but like a bit of live music in the open air. There are plenty of things about summer that I whinge about, but not those.

BeachyKeen · 18/06/2017 03:04

Sunrise at the beach

BeachyKeen · 18/06/2017 03:05

Posted too soon . I like the still and quiet that come with the promise of a hot day.
