Start of summer party budget

Nicpem1982 · 17/06/2017 11:49

Doing dd a start of summer laua as her birthday seems AGES away (sept) and we thought that as most of her friends are in some sort of pre school/nursery now it would be nice to mark the start of the summer with a bit of a party

Looking to budget about £80-£100 there's dd/dn and 3 of her friends they're all under 5.

Do you think this budget is reasonable and where should I start?

Should add party is going to be at home

Well it's your money but a few drinks and nibbles usually does the trick at that age? What kind of thing did you have in mind?

DontTouchTheMoustache · 17/06/2017 12:03

If it's a luau just check eBay for cheap party supplies decorations and garlands etc. Some nice party bags, a few nibbles and some drinks. Paper plates, and cups you can get from pound shops

LuxuryWoman2017 · 17/06/2017 12:04

At that age a couple of paddling pools and some toys on the lawn would do the trick, add in some ice lollies, and age friendly food - if it's hot strawberries, melon plus the usual sandwiches etc. and your budget is ample.

Have a few DVD's on hand in case of rain but yes the money is more than enough.

Nicpem1982 · 17/06/2017 12:10

Thank you!

I want something bright and colourful and fun!

I've never organised a party at home before we've only ever booked and been to venues.

We have lots of garden toys and a trampoline and paddling pool but wanted something different from a normal play date

At that age they will have fun playing together,
Get thee to poundland for some fun accessories to jazz things up maybe.

They'll love to blow giant bubbles, cheapie things like that and if you put down picnic rugs and cushions it will give that party feel.

Ellisandra · 17/06/2017 12:56

Are you seriously posting to ask the budget for a play date? Confused

YABU to post about budgets for 3 preschoolers coming round to play.

YWNBU to post in chat asking for play date ideas though!

Nicpem1982 · 17/06/2017 13:47

Ellis- it's more than a play date really I think more of a party to mark the start of summer my original post does say that

ornatemirror · 17/06/2017 14:11

You have 5 children round for tea! 2 are family.
God good it isn't a royal garden party!
You are not Elton John.

ornatemirror · 17/06/2017 14:11

Are you also looking for a cleaner in the cotswolds?

Ellisandra · 17/06/2017 14:21

3 friends over isn't more than a play date whether the reason is:

  • the start of summer
  • having friends round to play
  • several mums managing childcare

It'll be fun, enjoy... but don't post on AIBU to ask about budgets - because yes, you are!

5 packets of quavers and 10 fruit shoots. Sorted for a fiver.

ornatemirror · 17/06/2017 14:23

On another thread you say that your daughter is 2!

ornatemirror · 17/06/2017 14:29

on 16th december you posted

I'm having my dds 3rd birthday party at our local zoo. We're expecting around 20 children aged 2-6. Dh says I need to set a reasonable budget for party bags I thought about 4 pounds each as the venue is providing an activity pack and we've paid additional for face painting for each child. I'd like them to be animal themed as per the party. What do you spend on party bags per child?

Op seems to start a lot of ridiculous threads with conflicting stories in them.

Is her birthday in September or December- oh wait- she doesn't exist does she?

Nicpem1982 · 17/06/2017 15:04

My dd is 2 my dn will be 5 so the children will all be under 5.

Her birthday is September she'll be 3 we've booked the party at our local zoo. The venue was booked in December and at the time we were setting budgets for party bags, and I was after advice hardly outlandish?

Ornate I don't get the point of your response

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 17/06/2017 15:36

You are throwing your DD a party as it's too long for her to wait until her actual birthday in September? And she is 2?

The words "rod" and "back" spring to mind OP.

Crunchymum · 17/06/2017 15:37

And a budget of £100 for 4 kids.

What are you planning to do for her actual birthday? Shock

ornatemirror · 17/06/2017 15:38

You booked her birthday party in December for September- you posted that you were setting a budget for party bags and that you had invited 20 guests? You invited people 10 months in advance- bought the party bags and wrote the invitations? You wrote the invitations in January for September (you had another post about that).

Is party fetish a thing now?

Papafran · 17/06/2017 15:40

You booked the venue for a 3 yo birthday party nearly a year in advance?

Nicpem1982 · 17/06/2017 15:41

Crunchy we thought it'd be nice as in term time most of her friends are in pre school/nursery

I don't really know what at home parties cost we've only ever done s venue really aside from a birthday party st my brothers and I got carried away!

She's having her birthday party at the zoo

OP posts:
Grilledaubergines · 17/06/2017 15:42

OP £30 will cover it. Poundland and a trip to the supermarket and you're done.

As an aside, the parties my DC have enjoyed most are the ones we had at home with paddling pool, cheap gazebo up, boxes if their hot wheels cars to play with etc. And then when over, nerf guns in the garden, pizza etc. It took me a couple of very expensive activity parties to realise this.

Grilledaubergines · 17/06/2017 15:43

*when older

Allthebestnamesareused · 17/06/2017 15:43

It doesn't really matter when the birthday is and when the birthday party is.

Perhaps Op should have just called it an end of term/Summer party. The fact remains what fun (ooh I sound a bit like Miranda's mum) 5 little girls will have, dressing up in grass skirts and playing the garden.

What a nice Mum/Auntie/Friend to go to the trouble of making things special for them.

Nicpem1982 · 17/06/2017 15:51

Ornate - I was scouting for invitations in advance, a save the date goes out amongst our group ages in advance so I know who's attending yes

Venues get booked up early so yeah we booked in advance also we were fortunate to avoid a price increase at the start of the year :)

Invitations are being made with delivery due in July ...

Ornatemirror - you seem to have some sort of issue with this? Are you the ex friend who let her kid wreck my house who I told not to contact me again?

OP posts:
Papafran · 17/06/2017 15:54

Lol at save the date for a 3 year old's party 10 months in advance. It's nice that you are going to all the effort though, although I have precisely zero memories from when I was 3- the furthest I can remember back are some isolated incidents at maybe age 5.
