WSBU - Was SHE Being Unreasonable - major judgey pants on

MissSnootyPants · 16/06/2017 08:24

She or they - wasn't easy to tell.

I was at a concert last night. A full on, really loud stadium concert.

There was a baby there. A tiny baby. In a baby-grow. Much closer to the stage than I was.

WITHOUT ear defenders!! The parents had ear defenders with them (for the baby) but for large chunks of time decided not to use them.

Really stupid idea, no?

I too am wearing a fetching pair of judgey pants! I am convinced my bum looks much smaller in these.

What on earth were they thinking? Poor baby! Even with ear defenders I wonder at people bringing a tiny baby to a concert!

Coddiwomple · 16/06/2017 10:03

Massively BU! She was.

Why would you take a baby to a concert!

I judge parents who do stupid selfish fish which are not necessary like that. People with tiny baby on the beach, parents with hat and sunglasses when their kids have none.

I hope for the baby that he won't end up with tinnitus or worst.

Somevampsarehot · 16/06/2017 10:09

I try not to judge, but we were at a holiday park over half term and as we were walking up the beach I glanced over at a family whose baby was screaming. It wasnt just a normal cry, this was a full on screeching scream. This poor 3 monthish old baby was dressed only in a nappy and was sunburnt, head to toe bright red and obviously in agony. It honestly shocked me, and that poor baby's screams stayed with me for the rest of the day.

Neutrogena · 16/06/2017 10:12

Judge away - I'm sure they are not reading this so they don't care...

NormaSmuff · 16/06/2017 10:13

that is wicked op. ridiculous parenting

Southwaite · 16/06/2017 10:15

What's wrong with having a tiny baby at the beach, if you're taking all the correct precautions re sun cream etc??

MissSnootyPants · 16/06/2017 10:15

I just feel like I need some validation of my shockedness.

To be honest, to be begin with I thought how cute - they were all having a lovely time. Then the ear defenders came off!! And stayed off for a considerable time.

somevamp that's heart wrenching!!

Oh I just read the rest of the sentence. Apologies Blush

Pigface1 · 16/06/2017 10:20

somevamp that's totally horrifying! The baby must have been in sooo much pain!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/06/2017 10:20
Angry

Not defending these people but ........

try keeping ear defenders on a baby (difficult) but why have a baby there in the first place Hmm

small children / babies who are slathered in suncream can get a red reaction - more than likely that poor child was sunburned , but small infants (who shouldn't be exposed to full sun anyway) can get a prickly heat type reaction which manifests as red/burn appearance (cannot remember the name but this was from a Dermatology lecture I attended)

My offering: small baby in nail salon.
The fumes. The dust. The boredom. The heat.
Why?
Are they even allowed in a nail salon?

MissSnootyPants · 16/06/2017 10:21

At least last nights baby wasn't crying ear drums probably already burst

I am horrified at this, just horrified

peaceout · 16/06/2017 10:38

Ffs don't even put a baby in the sun, keep the delicate wee thing in the shade and cover it's skin with appropriate clothing, a baby doesn't need to have a tan!

BlackeyedSusan · 16/06/2017 10:40

if it is red it hurts like hell.

and these judgy pants are pinching

[ouch]

spiderlight · 16/06/2017 10:42

Absolutely horrified on both counts!! There's just no excuse for it. Poor, poor babies.

70isaLimit Do you mean polymorphic light eruption?

Maudlinmaud · 16/06/2017 10:45

Wow! Shock
I can understand the beech, nobody polices that, but a concert? How was the baby even allowed in?

RhodaBorrocks · 16/06/2017 10:48

Those poor babies. DS wears his ear defenders when I vacuum (ASD)!

Hell I used to see babies at the hairdresser's, where all I can smell is the ammonia. I used to arrange babysitting so I could go and not worry about DS breathing fumes.

One person I know just left her DT feet naked because they kept pulling their socks and booties off - it was the middle of winter! DS has always hated the feel of things on his feet but I would rather have endured the meltdowns than see his feet go purpley grey like theirs did.

Another is very blasé about babyproofing and every time I've seen them since their DC was crawling the poor child has cracked their head on something and ended up bruised. The only times they didn't were round at my flat - because I'd babyproofed!

Birdsgottaf1y · 16/06/2017 10:48

I usually look for possible reasons, based on my experience as a CP SW.

However anything that can damage a baby's health, can't be excused.

They are little for such a short length of time, it isn't a big ask that something so important as a baby's health, means that you put parts of your life on hold for at least a year.

I'm not talking about holidays/sun/beach/small festivals at a distance from noise etc, you can do them safely.

Birdsgottaf1y · 16/06/2017 10:51

""Hell I used to see babies at the hairdresser's, where all I can smell is the ammonia.""

I didn't have a babysitter, so took mine, tbh. If you don't have babysitters,it can be hard going and getting a haircut can make you feel human again.

timeisnotaline · 16/06/2017 10:51

some. Shock that is horrific. Poor darling baby.

peaceout · 16/06/2017 10:53

I am also appalled to learn of a baby being subjected to the noise levels of a concert

Why would you take a baby?
Are they so thick they don't realise they are damaging it's hearing?
Or so selfish that they don't care, their desire to attend the concert is more important than the bodily integrity of the child?

grannytomine · 16/06/2017 10:54

Somevampsarehot I live in a seaside resort, I am frequently horrified at the burned bodies I see, adults, children and occasionally babies. I sometimes feel like walking round the beach with bottles of sunscreen. It often seems to happen on Saturday/Sunday and I wonder if it is the first day of the holiday and how on earth they can enjoy the rest of the week.

Wanttobehonest · 16/06/2017 10:54

Yes stupid. I tried to bring my babies with me most places, I didnt want to be trapped in house, and dont think you should not go to concerts when you are a parent, but that is completely unnecessary and no benefit to baby.

If you cant leave it at home for that then I think you have to wait until they are old enough until you can.

peaceout · 16/06/2017 10:56

Do these people just not understand that you have to make sacrifices to properly protect and care for babies and children, you can't just carry on as before

Unexpectedbaby · 16/06/2017 11:00

I just don't understand how some parents can't take really easy simple measures for the sake of their children.

We were at a BBQ recently and people chuckled at the fact I slathered DD (5mo) in factor 50 put a hat on her then stood in the shade. I don't subject my own skin to sun without factor 50 on so why would I take a young baby into the beaming sun if there is shade available. This was also a child's birthday party. We were there 5 hours watching 3yos running in and out of paddling pools without having sunscreen reapplied once in 25degree sun.
