She or they - wasn't easy to tell.

I was at a concert last night. A full on, really loud stadium concert.

There was a baby there. A tiny baby. In a baby-grow. Much closer to the stage than I was.

WITHOUT ear defenders!! The parents had ear defenders with them (for the baby) but for large chunks of time decided not to use them.

Really stupid idea, no?

Your thread title says "she" but your OP says that both parents were there.

Why is it the woman who is getting the grief. Cos parenting is women's work? YABU

I've been a Lp since dd was 2. Never felt the need to put her even in discomfort let alone risk her health for anything like this. I was at uni so she was in full time childcare at a lovely nursery. I'd schedule haircuts, Drs appointments, bank appointments in lunch hours and eat at afternoon break. Doesn't kill anyone not to have nights out every weekend or go to concerts etc. I was lucky to have a Lp friend and we'd babysit for each other once a month. That would be my night out (I'd go on a wed cheap student night) and she'd have a 'date night' with guy she was seeing so they had one night a month just them. (They're now married).

There's just no need for it.

Graphista · 16/06/2017 11:04

Also concerts are not cheap if they can afford that they can afford to pay a babysitter.

Birdsgottaf1y · 16/06/2017 11:09

""I was at uni so she was in full time childcare at a lovely nursery""

Well in 1985, in Liverpool, unless you earned good money, childcare was still unregulated and unaffordable.

So i put my DD 'at risk' Grin being in a hairdressers.

You are also lucky that your doctor sees you within the space of a lunchtime. I had to neglect my teeth because of a lack of babysitter.

MissSnootyPants · 16/06/2017 11:15

senua I say 'she' because it was an who man holding the baby, taking ear defenders off, swining it around etc. She was clearly the primary career in that situation. There were other adults with her, including men, who may or may not also have had some responsibility.

Why on earth would people take a baby there. Ffs

I expect no one said anything for fear the usual "I was thrown out for breast feeding" nonsense people spout to the papers when pulled up forsaking their babies somewhere they shouldn't be.

Steeley113 · 16/06/2017 12:37

To a loud concert with no ear defender - they are U.

All the other things like to salons etc. Sometimes you just have to get things done and have no childcare! My 1 year old is coming with me this afternoon to get my nails done. My childcare is used for when I'm at work!

Somevampsarehot · 16/06/2017 13:06

@70isa I really hope that was the case with the baby I saw then, poor little mite. I would have been taken aback even if the baby wasn't red though, it was 25 degrees and this baby was just in a nappy. I don't have a problem with taking babies to hair salons or other appointments etc, I probably wouldn't take mine to the nail salon here because the fumes are very strong (the people that work there all wear masks for example) and it takes forever to get your nails done! But I do not understand people that knowingly put their child's health at risk. How hard is it to stick some spf50 and a hat on a baby and keep them covered up?

CheshireChat · 16/06/2017 13:16

Couple pushing a baby in pram- both smoking and I don't think it was even normal cigarettes! They stunk of weed to high heaven. Yes, I judged.

Also, a little toddler red raw in the park yesterday. Thing is DS and I were out there for a good 3-4 hours and neither of us are even a bit red, but we did use sunscreen...

pinkhorse · 16/06/2017 13:17

Were you watching take that?

MissSnootyPants · 16/06/2017 14:09

Yes pink. Not sure that's relevant though?

Both the lack of ear defenders and the sunburn story are horrible, I wouldn't be able to not do anything in that situation. When you have a baby you have to make sacrifices, no one NEEDS to go to a concert, or nail salon or hairdressers, put your child first for fucks sake, they are only tiny for such a short time it isn't even a huge sacrifice to make to miss out on some things for a while. If you don't have childcare tough luck your baby should come above everything else. Why do these people even have a child if these things are so much more important than caring for a baby when they are so vulnerable and dependent on you.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 16/06/2017 14:59

I used to live in the South of France - there were frequently warning stories in the newspapers about Northerners who'd come to the beach and ended up with children in hospital because of severe sunburn, sunstroke or dehydration. One poor baby died.

pinkhorse · 16/06/2017 15:03

Just mentioned it as I saw the same thing

MissSnootyPants · 16/06/2017 23:49

You didn't have a baby with you, did you pink Wink
