One final box that had been in his mum's spare room for donkeys years. It contained a lava lamp. He has put it on his bedside table, in our previously beautiful, immaculate, un-tainted by 90's shit, nautical-style bedroom. Also in the box was a special edition DVD of Highlander, a tartan cummerbund that doesn't fit around his dad bod anymore and more than 50 beer mats from various dives pubs around the country. AIBU to ask what bizarre/horrific/inexplicable shit stuff your DP brought when he moved in?

A full size arcade game that he built himself. GrinGrinGrin

bookwormnerd · 16/06/2017 09:50

Videos that he will not bloody chuck. He also has a video player upstairs (does he ever watch no) they take up space and I would be happy for him to replace with dvd but the videos are crap ones anyway. Why anyone would want to watch a 90s police, camera, action I dont know. My mil also passes him crap from other people. Mind you I have a collection of books that I wouldent part with and even he says they do get reread. I had less crap as I shared a room growing up so less space to accumulate stuff. He also has a collection of t shirts which dont fit

GandolfBold · 16/06/2017 09:53

Years worth of football sticker albums which he completed as a child. They sit all tatty and forlorn on our bookshelf He never looks at them but they must not be thrown away.

Ancient gym equipment that looks quite torturous and not at all safe. Luckily although it has survived three house moves he hasn't ever used it.

A horrible rubber ET figure.

Donttouchthethings · 16/06/2017 09:57

Mine had an inflatable alien hanging just inside the front door.

I win, don't I?

GandolfBold · 16/06/2017 09:57

Oh yes - he brought VHS's filled with hundreds of episodes of The Bill. Apparently Burnside is a 'legend' Hmm

Donttouchthethings · 16/06/2017 10:00

A big box of records but no record player. Had them for decades. Won't throw them out.

Molehillfromamountain · 16/06/2017 10:08

Marvin snap on the airfix...almost 200! I convinced him to sell them on eBay and we went on holiday from the proceeds. They can be worth a fair bit Wink
My DH also brought 2 artificial western pistols he planned to mount on the wall, they now live in the loft. (Rightly so)
Funnily enough he mourned the loss of a lava lamp he thought would be in one of the boxes from his old house, looks like I had a lucky escape.

swimmerforlife · 16/06/2017 10:11

DH has got a huge collection of Pogs (that fad in the 90s) in a shoebox up in the loft.

A whole collection of various rugby jerseys from different countries around the world, dating back to the late 90s.

An inflatable boat that is used on lakes for kids. (Bought it on holiday years ago)

A whole heap of VHS tapes from various game shows (Deal or no Deal etc)

We're moving 200 miles next month and some things are going, there will be no arguments. I'm not dragging boxes of his old school books (he left in '95) half way across the country or a VHS of Deal or No Deal from 2002.

Not only my DP but my boss too 😣

My DP:
Loads of computer towers he's apparently "fixing" to sell yeah right 😤

TV's and two functional gaming computers all in our room so we can LAN See pic

My Boss:
My bosses old drill that he wants me to see that no one wants, an old hard hat and twenty small vices my boss again bought in error that I must sell. I've sold five so far!

😂😫😫

A massive "Make Love Not War" poster with a photo a mushroom cloud on it.
Various massive musical instruments which he rarely plays.

Ex had a horrible alien in a jar thing plus some horrible prints glorifying war (much rather have the "Make Love Not War" poster).
Some bath towels he had had for 20 years and were musty and stank.
Horrible T-shirts, mainly on science-fiction themes.
Himself... that was the worst thing that he moved in.

Tazerface · 16/06/2017 11:07

DH has very little unfortunately, due to a falling out with his mum who binned everything when he moved out with his dad as a teen, and then from when we got together, going back to his shared house after spending the night with me to find his house mate had been carted off to prison and the LL had cleared the house and changed the locks!

We've been together now for ~14 years so he has 'stuff' but nothing like what's mentioned here.

Ratonastick · 16/06/2017 11:18

I fear for my brother's future wife. I recently discovered that he owns over 1000 comic books. And he refers to them as comic books, not comics. He, apparently, has valuable collectors sets and every individual comic is in its own specifically sized cover (acquired from a specialised emporium called, I presume, "Plastic bags for the man willing to spend insane money").

I've suggested that he insures them against all risks as I am pretty sure his lovely fiancée is going to accidentally lose them in the forthcoming move. I know I bloody would!!

Sapiosexual · 16/06/2017 11:39

A huge glass bong! The best part is when we moved from his home country back to the UK we stored all our stuff at his mums house and she opened the boxes to see if she wanted anything from them. The bong now sits happily in her china cabinet on full display! When we asked her if she knew what it was, she snapped "of course I do, its for making raki!" Grin

alpacawhacker · 16/06/2017 12:19

Mine also came with have miles of cable, the same as a PP. If we ever get really desperate perhaps we could strip the copper for scrap. Hmm

NoParticularPattern · 16/06/2017 12:29

Some of these are brilliant. I have, however, just remembered that it may well be me who takes the award for the most pointless item ever taken on a house move.

A bag of cheistmas tree needles.

I still don't know why they never got thrown out or indeed how they managed to move house with us. But they did. I had a lot of fun spooning them into the wood burner and watching them crackle though!

BillMasen · 16/06/2017 12:33

Pretty sure anyone who came on here saying their dp had intentionally broken or tho we away something of theirs would be told he was abusive...

BillMasen · 16/06/2017 12:33

Tho we = thrown
Obviously

CiliatedEpithelium · 16/06/2017 12:47

A faux sheepskin flying jacket with that awful 'antique' distressed leather thing going on. It's in the shed. It has mildew on it unfortunately. A fair sized ceramic Christmas tree on a ceramic base all in primary colours and it lights up and turns slowly when plugged in. An accident befell it and it went for hardcore in a gabion basket. I blame an elf
Grin

Thissideof40 · 17/06/2017 14:40

My OH is a hoarder and has so much 80's & 90's shit. Most of it is stored in the attic, shed and cupboard under the stairs. The crap includes dusty lava lamps, VHS tapes, a deer head and pictures that have no chance in hell of being hung on display.

misskatamari · 17/06/2017 14:50

I thankfully managed to get rid before we moved in together, but dh did hang on to a bit of pipe from his old shower for a good long while as it made an "interesting sound"

robinia · 17/06/2017 15:44

@Ratonastick Could you warn your would-be future sil that your brother is already married to me Grin

I think I'd rather have the lava lamp than the nautical themed bedroom Wink

wirrinboffin · 20/06/2017 12:35

A full size suitcase full of tights - still wrapped that belonged to his ex-wife...and his little collection of dirty photographs of her too - the box had been in storage for years, but given the amount of times the box got hidden on moving day he knew exactly what was in there. A run to the dump was promptly ordered.

2littlemoos · 20/06/2017 12:55

I moved in to DPs flat but he didn't have much.

However, he has now bought a pokemon build a bear which he planned to sell and that obviously never happened. Fortunately as we have children it is amongst all their soft toys.

He is also a Walking Dead fan and has four display figurines. Forunately as they aren't very stable (?!) I have had to move them elsewhere. They did not look right in our floral bedroom!

The final straw was him wanting to purchase a walking dead themed chopping board for the kitchen. He hardly cooks. It is not happening!

lemony7 · 20/06/2017 14:21

@MrsOverTheRoad I think I know you!

Why has no-one questioned the glass eye collection?! Best collection ever!

Both PIL and DPs are hoarders so I'm lucky that DH doesn't have much shit. He does have a fuck tonne of dice though.

Grin I loved the 'plastic bags emporium' line!
