to still be obsessing...about a kitchen appliance?

I saw one being demo-ed in John Lewis nearly 6 years ago, but it was £400 (which I still don't really have, though I could save it up) and have been obsessed with it ever since. Every so often I google it and try to work out if it's worth buying or not. I've just caught myself looking at second hand ones on ebay and Gumtree and I am beginning to suspect I ABU. This is silly, right? A kitchen appliance is not worth 400 quid - or today's price which is more like 550 - nor is it worth drooling over. Right?

Love my kitchen aid. Now it seems i will be getting a vitamix too, after that ice cream story!

WineAndTiramisu · 15/06/2017 17:35

Vitamix is really easy to wash, however I've never managed to make soup in mine that didn't taste funny - it tastes kind of raw rather then cooked if that makes sense?

N0tfinished · 15/06/2017 18:03

Check out Duronic blenders on Amazon. Very powerful motor, heavy glass jug. Might that scratch your itch? I have one and it's really good. I tried to link but it won't work but mine is the BL 1200. I make frozen raspberry ice cream all the time- frozen raspberries, stevia and cream

misscarlar · 15/06/2017 21:38

Arnt they normally on offer at the home show?

MomtoOneMarvelousBubba · 15/06/2017 21:48

Holy shit OP! YANBU You have to buy one - ice ceamGrin

bananamonkey · 15/06/2017 22:26

Yeah don't use raw garlic in the soup as it doesn't cook and still tastes raw, was amazed you could make hot soup so quickly though.

Jengnr · 15/06/2017 22:34

I had a duronic blender but it was a bit rubbish. I sacked it off for a Magimix and love it.

I got a soupmaker though OP. I dunno what a vitamix does and I suspect I shouldn't look but from your description you could do loads of that with my soupmaker for £30-£35

Just to add my birthday Kitchen Aid has changed my life - if you bake a lot it's a life saver. Also awesome for doing bread - no more dusty counters and sticky fingers, it all goes on the dough hook!

pinotnoirismyjam · 15/06/2017 22:40

Eye you can get an ice cream maker attachment for your Kitchen Aid, if that helps?

Also you can get a pasta maker, spiraliser and veggie cuber to screw into the motor. Pricey though! I've been eyeing up the food processor attachment for about a year - would save so much time, but the price! Shock

pinotnoirismyjam · 15/06/2017 22:41

Sorry Eye that should have been directed at Whatthefox!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 15/06/2017 22:43

I watched a demo at a show and was totally taken in, they did a smoothie, a soup and ice cream while I was there. They weren't actually selling them though, just giving out leaflets to order online. So I went home and looked it up, I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but I wasn't expecting that expensive Sad

PoohBearsHole · 15/06/2017 22:44

Don't knock the kitchen aid. Mines 12 years old and worth EVERY penny. I ❤️ It. Tonight's it's Made various things for me.

Vitamix. Now I sodding want one 😱

Funnyfarmer · 15/06/2017 22:49

Is it a £400 blender?
What eles does it do?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 15/06/2017 22:50

My friend has one and loves it. She is a really good cook with high standards too!

GreenTulips · 15/06/2017 22:51

Aldi do similar which get great review and the price is affordable

SuperPug · 15/06/2017 22:52

Was she some kind of wizard ? Grin ALL of that, one after another!
I would love one. Smile

TellMeItsNotTrue · 15/06/2017 22:58

It's amazing, you cut an apple in half and that's it you put it in core and all, peppers get cut in half and go in with seeds, it can handle butternut squash no problem

The only thing he peeled was a banana because he said the peel doesn't taste very good, but he said that's the only thing you need to peel and everything else can just be included in half apple sized pieces

I bought a vitamix. For me it was a waste of money. I use it for blending sauces. Any old blender could do the same

VilootShesCute · 15/06/2017 23:10

Get a nutribullet. I NEED a kitchenaid now I know they do an ice bloody cream attachment! Effing hell. I have wanted one for 5 years. Dh will not ever ever buy me one unless we win the lottery.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 16/06/2017 00:03

Nutribullet is like saying get a whisk instead of a kitchen aid

PoohBearsHole · 16/06/2017 00:05

I love my Kitchen Aid! I make my own bread twice a week since getting it, only sporadically before. It's brilliant for meringues, whipping cream and all batters. They are expensive, but it's done a lot of work in the 6 years I've had it and looks as good as new.
It's easy to clean and bomb-proof.

VilootShesCute · 16/06/2017 04:00

Ooo get a whisk...
