For those of you that maintain a healthy weight, what does a typical day/week of eating look like for you?

Morning: Coffee, tea with milk and muesli with greek yoghurt (full fat)

Lunch: Chicken or tuna salad

Dinner: veg stir fry.

That was yesterday but it's very typical. Tbh I don't really deny myself anything, if I want toast instead I'll have a slice, similarly if I want pasta and cheese for dinner I'll have it. I just eat a reasonable portion - a couple of biscuits, not the whole packet.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 14/06/2017 09:30

I maintain through exercise

Eat sensibly too but its portion control for me

Even running long distance doesn't mean I can eat a full family size packet of crisps or 6 biscuits or takeaway 3 nights

Moderation and exercise

allegretto · 14/06/2017 09:31

I know it's different for everyone but I've never been overweight and I put it down to never having been on a diet which I think is disastrous for most people. That said, I don't regularly eat "snack" foods like crisps and never eat in front of the tv or after dinner.

MotherofA · 14/06/2017 09:32

Two litres of water a day. A lot of veg / salad with meat / fish . Also fruit especially like melon / cherries etc.
I don't eat pork or poor quality meat . Try to minimise reformed / processed foods also .
I do eat chocolate at times or have a bit too much wine now and again .
I want to get more and more towards a plant based diet but not veggie I love meat and fish . Just more goodness . Smile

SomewhereInbetween1 · 14/06/2017 09:34

Breakfast: two slices of toast. One with jam and one with choc spread (still a child at heart)
Lunch: either a ham sandwich or a meal replacement shake.
Late afternoon snacks: kiwi or an apple and a small packet of sunbites popcorn.
Dinner: normally something like a quorn spag bol or turkey curry.

There are also days with the odd glass of wine and handful of biscuits are thrown in too 😊

ifyoulikepinacolada · 14/06/2017 09:41

Yesterday was a good example:

Breakfast - overnight oats with almond butter, coconut milk and a handful of strawberries

Lunch - sweet potato falafel, big mixed salad, hummus

Snack - handful of cherries, big dollop greek full fat yoghurt

Dinner - avocado and pea smash, grilled halloumi, pitta bread. Caramel magnum for pudding.

Two small glasses white wine, about three litres of water, two white coffees and a whte tea.

Enb76 · 14/06/2017 09:51

Never been on a diet myself - but needed to lose probably 1/2 stone to get back to my comfortable 10st (size 10) me so I cut out the snacks and the chocolate. I'm now back to 10st but it's taken 6 months and that doesn't worry me cos I think quick weightloss is probably a bad thing.

I don't eat breakfast, for lunch I'll have a sandwich or leftovers and supper is a proper meal that I generally cook from scratch as it's the meal I eat with my child(8) - could be anything, I don't take notice of calorific intake. Might be a stir fry or lasagna with salad, or a stew or a selection of cold meats and salad. Generally there's always a salad :)

I don't eat much bread or pasta because I don't like it and it makes me feel bloaty but my daughter loves pasta so if she's eating it I'll have a tiny portion. I'm not much of a drinker either. I do eat a lot of fruit and we often have completely veggie meals.

Mostly, I don't snack as when I do my weight creeps up.

Neverpeelmushrooms · 14/06/2017 09:54

I'm slightly underweight (according to charts etc but it's just my normal weight)

6.30 Cup of tea
7.15 2 weetabix with whole milk
10.30 2 slices of toast if at home, couple of biscuits if at work. More tea.
12 (ish) packed lunch of sandwich, salad, crisps, chocolate bar, yoghurt, satsuma on work days. Home lunch likely to be just sandwich, fruit, and one other item.
Hot drink (coffee or herbal tea)
Sometimes have a snack around 16.00 with another cup of tea depending if I'm hungry
18.00 cooked meal usually comprising of meat, carb, veg. Occasional pudding but not often.
Water
Herbal tea

I need to drink more.

fishonabicycle · 14/06/2017 09:54

Overnight oats (with full fat natural yoghurt, buttermilk, chia, dates and grated apple), lunch was cold roast chicken, spinach, slice of rye bread, snack was 2 boiled eggs, dinner home made burger, sweet potato, asparagus. I also had a coffee and a tea. Water.

SleepFreeZone · 14/06/2017 09:54

I don't eat sugar or refined carbs. I don't drink alcohol. I rarely eat meat but do eat fish. So basically vegetables, dairy, good fats, water, herbal tea.

Breakfast might be eggs, lunch some stir fry with prawns, dinner some veggies, avocado, sprinkling of Parmesan.

bloodorangesareyummy · 14/06/2017 09:59

Breakfast: Porridge
Lunch: 2 poached eggs on 2 slices of toast plus fruit
Dinner: Something with dh and dc eg. Roast chicken, Chilli, Spag Bol, Steak and chips then fruit. No snacks during the day.

ElinorRigby · 14/06/2017 09:59

Usually a cooked breakfast with toast.

Typically bread and cheese plus soup for lunch. Maybe fruit too.

Dinner could be meat/fish or vegetarian. Rice or pasta, though sometimes spuds. Salad.

Sometimes toast/rice cakes/a currant bun as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack.

I drink almost no alcohol, don't eat crisps or bars of chocolate - I just don't like them.. Most meals are cooked from scratch.

I would normally walk round than driving shorter distances and go to regular dance classes.

Sunshinegirls · 14/06/2017 10:04

This is really helpful, thank you.

Njordsgrrrl · 14/06/2017 10:13

No bread, rice, cereal or potatoes, pizza treat once a week. Greek yoghurt full fat, some fruit but not loads (sugar) and I don't eat meat so it's fish / cheese / eggs mainly.

I don't eat until early evening so maybe that helps too.

Sunshinegirls · 14/06/2017 10:18

Njordsgrrl, do you mean you fast every day until evening?
My weight has been creeping up and I think it's because I have no routine with my food, I skip meals a lot, which means I snack and make bad food choices.
Also, a lot of you eat natural yoghurt, that's interesting, I've recently added this to my diet as I read that naturally slim folk have good gut flora

Breakfast - pot of protein yogurt with chia seeds and berries on top, Apple or pear slices dipped in nut butter, a poached egg with 1 rasher of bacon and some mushrooms.

Lunch - I'm usually full from breakfast still but I'll have something light like a bowl of soup and a babybel.

Dinner - some kind of protein like salmon, prawns, chicken or steak with lots of different veggies. A gin and slimline tonic and a small bar of chocolate or a hot chocolate drink for dessert.

Calories work out between 1300-1600 each day and I walk about 10,000 steps.

I'll normally have one blow out meal per week where I'll have something really calorific like a big bowl of cheesy pasta and garlic bread, or a takeaway or a meal out. i don't eat like that more than once a week though as I gain weight easily

Njordsgrrrl · 14/06/2017 10:27

I don't exactly fast, I just don't really get hungry? I've never been able to eat breakfast or lunch. I used to eat very late at night, last thing, but have changed that to early evening and the weight is falling off.

I'm probably doing the 16:8 method inadvertently Grin

Njordsgrrrl · 14/06/2017 10:32

To give context, I'm 5'3", eight stone down from 10 Hmm but I honestly don't need a lot of food as I'm a carer for my autistic school-age son and quite sedentary most days apart from my walk.

BF is 6'4", ten stone, does a very physical job and he only eats one meal a day too.

kmc1111 · 14/06/2017 10:34

The actual recipes vary a lot, but an average day would include about 8-12 serves of veggies (I try to do 1-2 in my first meal, 3-4 in both the next two and 1-2 as a snack). That alone is very filling, so then everything else (like rice, pasta, proteins etc) is there in smaller than standard portions.

Today for instance I had zucchini and mushroom slice for breakfast, a huge warm salad with wild rice for lunch, and dinner was a cauliflower pizza with veggie toppings. I snacked on celery and red peppers with hummus and some cheese. I'm vegetarian if you haven't guessed already, so on days I don't get much protein I'll add in a shake. But today was fine for that.

On days I eat some junk I try to eat the same amount of veggies and just cut out everything else. The veggies keep me too full to turn a small 'cheat day' into a binge day.

ForFSake · 14/06/2017 11:04

Breakfast- Bagel with butter and peanut butter and a cup of tea.

Lunch- Nothing, don't get time. Might have an innocent fruit smoothie or yoghurt but that's rare.

Dinner- Whatever I want, normally something like lasagne and salad, Thai Green Curry, Spag Bol etc. I normally have desert too, last night it was a pancake with Nutella and cream .

Size 6-8 and have been most of my life to be fair. However, I have always been v active and right now I have an active job and am averaging 17,000 steps a day so that definitely helps.'

I don't deny myself anything, but equally I do try and have bad stuff in moderation (i.e I'd just have the one, small pancake other than 2 Wink )

I try and drink a lot of water during the day too.

Breakfast, 2 cups of hot water with lemon and then something like 2 pieces of cheese on toast or 2 eggs and soldiers.

Lunch, sandwich and a bag of crisps or soup and bread and butter, something like that.

Afternoon snack, something like a little cake or a banana.

Tea/dinner, spag Bol/pizza/chilli/chicken, rice, veg/fish, potatoes and veg, or along those lines.

Sometimes I will have a bag of crisps or a gu pot or some other treat before bed. I was sharing a baguette and Camembert urgh DH every evening before bed but then did notice I gained a little weight so have stopped that

Belle1616 · 14/06/2017 11:31

I exercise a lot but here yesterday:

Breakfast: Porridge made with water, cinnamon, raisins, peanut butter
Snack: Grapes
Lunch: Falafel, Salad, Hummous
Snack: a few Dates
Dinner: Veg Curry no rice

small amount of diary free ice cream a bit later in the evening.

Generally I am low carb, try to eat as little refined food as possible, and not big on sugar. I'm vegan anyway. But still treat myself and have pizza etc once a week or so.

Belle1616 · 14/06/2017 11:32

Oh and 2-3 litres of water and some black coffee in the morning.
