For those of you that maintain a healthy weight, what does a typical day/week of eating look like for you?

Food*

I think of it as medicine.

Chathamhouserules · 14/06/2017 16:58

I think you're right op, in the main messages, re 3 meals, lots of veg etc to fill you up. Cut down the processed food. When I want to lose weight I cut out unhealthy snacks. It's a bit boring at first (if like me you love choc and crisps) but it doesn't take long to get in good habits and it is very motivating when you see the weight come of.
But running 3x a week really helps! And means you can eat a bit more too! My dh runs marathons, loves food and eats like a horse, and stays skinny! Too skinny if you ask me...

Chathamhouserules · 14/06/2017 16:59

Weight come off, not of.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/06/2017 17:06

I'm 52, never been overweight. I don't normally eat breakfast.
I eat something like a wrap or pitta with protein and lots of salad for lunch.
Dinner is cooked from scratch: meat or fish and veg, small portion of carbs.
I have pudding a couple of times a week, a biscuit or a bag of crisps pretty often and a couple of glasses of wine a week.
I don't eat massive portions though (thought the recent crisps thread was quite shocking).

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/06/2017 17:07

And I love food; food to me is pleasure

ForFSake · 14/06/2017 17:37

God, I think mine is probably the most unhealthiest meal plan on this thread so far Blush

I keep slim because I am and always have been pretty active, and because I skip lunch, or if I have a big lunch, dinner and although I do snack on chocolate and unhealthy things most days, I won't go overboard with them.

I absolutely detest putting on weight, it's horrible, all consuming in my thoughts etc. Urgh.

I can drop weight easily by doing everything the same and cutting out the evening snack of chocolate/ cake etc if I want/ have to.

So yeh, not all of us are slim because we enjoy eating lentils and fruit Blush I certainly don't. I'm just v active and skip meals sometimes Blush

UrsulaPandress · 14/06/2017 17:37

I know where I go wrong.

ShoutOutToMyEx · 14/06/2017 21:16

It isn't fashionable on mn but I genuinely think some people, like me, have fast metabolisms and by inference, some have slow.

I agree with you 100%. OP, I'm sure you can do anything you out your mind to, and getting more exercise and eating more fruit, veg and lean protein will be greatly beneficial to your health - but some people are just naturally thinner than others. Just be the best version of you you can be Smile

Today - cup of tea at 7.15, 3 cups of white coffee (just a little milk) between 9 and 12, peanut protein bar at 12. Piece of cheese, some crisps, handful of cherry tomatoes, handful of cherries, strip of milk chocolate at lunch (2.30pm), water to drink. Two cups of tea during afternoon, second with a few oatcakes. Prawn and sweet corn fritters, grilled peppers, satsuma and piece of dark chocolate for dinner (8 pm), water to drink. Will have a cup of peppermint tea later.
I'm 52, fairly active, 5 ft 4 and have weighed 65 kg for years. This is a fairly typical day's food. I drink alcohol sometimes, mostly wine. I eat a lot of chocolate and always have, but no fizzy drinks or sweets other than chocolate. I only have one filling. I don't eat gluten, could eat more vegetables, eat meat but not every day, love food but don't obsess over it. I don't eat breakfast normally and have never wanted it, from a child. I sort of naturally do a 14:10 diet a lot of the time. I have never dieted.

Swanlake123 · 14/06/2017 21:32

B - smoothie made with banana strawberries peach blueberry and skimmed milk

L - cucumber sticks, 2 rice cakes and some low fat houmous with a banana

3pm - cuppa soup

D - steak and salad with a can of diet zero

I usually try to eat like that all week because I go out and drink / eat out all weekend and I do no exercise apart from walk to and from work which is only 1.5 miles there and back

IonaNE · 14/06/2017 22:04

Don't have breakfast.
Lunch: salad with some protein: grilled meat, hard-boiled eggs or fish.
Evening meal: vegetables with protein, e.g. this evening sweet potatoes fried with eggs in coconut oil and protein cheese, salmon and avocado added on the plate. Berries with natural full-fat yoghurt.

Sugarformyhoney · 14/06/2017 22:11

Today.. porridge with coconut milk, 2 bananas, handful of grapes, mixed leaves with feta, flapjack, Pitta with falafel and homous and salad oh and a packet of monster munch 😂

puglife15 · 14/06/2017 22:22

I'm 5'6, don't weigh myself but last time I did I was about 8st 10 but think I've put a few lbs on.

I eat loads and don't calorie count or anything. But I cook almost everything from scratch and have no meat or dairy (but do eat fish) and no low fat anything or artificial sweeteners. TBH I think I am not very healthy, and don't exercise enough, but I'm not overweight.

Typical food for the day:

Porridge with oat milk and fruit, cup of tea
Veg soup, hummus and roll for lunch
Salmon with quinoa and green veg for dinner
Loads of snacks: some kind of fruit or seed based snack bar, a piece of fruit, some dark chocolate, a glass of wine or beer, slice of toast with peanut butter... occasionally (once or even twice a week) something like cake, chips, crisps or sweets.

2rebecca · 14/06/2017 22:41

My weeks vary but I do have 3 meals a day watch my portions, try and have veg and salad don't snack much and only eat when I'm hungry. I also exercise a lot and don't see food as a treat. I also don't see sweet food as bad. If I just fancy a pudding for lunch Ill eat it

GnocchiOnMyShirtTigger · 15/06/2017 01:55

6:30 am Bowl of porridge with honey + cup of tea, whole milk 2 sugars.

10 am Cup of tea (as above).

12 pm peanut butter sandwiches, wholemeal bread, some fruit, cup of water.

3 pm another cup of tea

Graze on fruit in afternoon.

5:30 pm (last night) beef and lentil casserole, salad of tomatoes, cucumber, onion, white rice.

I also eat 1 250g bar of chocolate a week.

Sometimes have baking, but all from home.

Probably drink about 4 - 8 units a week.

I am male, 5'7, slightly above 9st, so scrawny.

Seren85 · 15/06/2017 02:13

Weekdays:

B- Greek yogurt, fruit, low sugar granola
L- Salad with tuna
D- very varied but usually "clean" and approx 60p call

3 litres water

Weekends are brunch (poached eggs and homemade baked beans on a toasted muffin) then a dinner as above.

That's the ideal and maybe 80%. The rest is too much diet coke, too many garlic bread with cheese takeaways etc. But it is generally working for me.

IHaveACrapCat · 15/06/2017 19:59

This has been a fascinating thread.

If I may offer my diet, which will show the contrast between previous posters who are a lower BMI, and myself, who is slightly overweight (5 ft 7" and 12stone)

B - one slice wholemeal toast with peanut butter and banana, earl grey tea with no milk

Snack - black coffee, small handful nuts

L - generous helping of humous, falafel, flat bread, lots of raw veg, soy yogurt

Snack - fruit, black coffee, maybe a raw food snack bar or a small pack of popcorn

T - whatever DH cooks, which would normally be homemade chilli with avocado, salsa, small brown rice. Or something similar. Basically lots of home made stiff with lots of veg. Maybe some vegan icecream

Snack - options hot chocolate with generous helping of mini marshmallows on top.

Diet is 80% vegan, lots of lentils, pulses, veg, etc. occasional takeaway and alcohol. Treats at weekend.

I'd love to lose a stone, and writing this out is very helpful. It's clear that there are snack and portion size issues!

MakChoon · 15/06/2017 20:09

Usually something like:

B: big portion of naked slaw on hummus, avo or tahini on wholemeal toast. Black coffee.

L: Jacket potato with another massive portion of slaw and tahini. Or a stir fry. Or home-made veg ramen. Or a Buddha bowl.

D: Stirfry veg and tofu with rice. Or Vegetable and bean burritos. Or pasta with veg and cashew cream sauce.

Snacks: today I had a tangerine, cherries, an apricot and strawberries. Sometimes I might have a couple of squares of dark chocolate or a healthy home-made muffin.

Glass of rose spritzer.

I drink absolutely gallons of water and various teas all day.

I've pretty much always eaten this way, never been on a diet. I'm vegan and mainly eat whole foods.
