start using cheaper teabags or whatever is necessary to stop these bloody drop down ads!

I just want MN to be a useable forum - I don't care about the home page, community outreach, events. So if reducing the payroll would reduce the need for the fricking drop down ads, then I say FINE! I don't really mean it

Or maybe tech could just SORT THE ADs OUT ONCE & FOR ALL..

They've been plaguing me for weeks!

Ad-blocker?

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 13/06/2017 19:02

Use an adblocker!

ShoesHaveSouls · 13/06/2017 19:14

I agree - the constant moving ads all down the side are really annoying.

I did install adblocker - but I took it off again, because I couldn't watch C4 catch up without it.

Medeci · 13/06/2017 19:15

Mumsnet is impossible to use without AdBloc.

CiliatedEpithelium · 13/06/2017 19:16

Adblock OP. It will change your life Grin

NoahPinnyon · 13/06/2017 19:18

Erm, how do I download AdBloc? Blush

I use safari on a rather old iPad.

Wish I could get rid of moving adverts at petrol pumps too- how distracting- playing you a video while you're trying to fill the car up- drives me bananas.

JaneEyre70 · 13/06/2017 19:25

Download Mozilla Firefox, and install uBlock as an add on. It will save your sanity Grin

Lynnm63 · 13/06/2017 19:26

I'd like to know how to use Adblock on an iPad too.

WhiteCaribou · 13/06/2017 19:28

On my ipadI just use the two finger " make the page bigger" gesture if you see what I mean and then I can't see the ads at the sides, just the writing.

AuntieStella · 13/06/2017 19:30

Download an app called "AdBlock Plus" (red icon with white lettering) and it'll change everything.

I resisted getting one for ages (MN as to make money somehow) but it tipped into unusable and I've not looked back. iPad, safari, desktop site.

NoahPinnyon · 13/06/2017 19:30

White - I do that but scrolling and typing is very slow.

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 13/06/2017 19:32

Shoes You can disable it on certain websites.

Floralnomad · 13/06/2017 19:33

I also resorted to Adbloc plus and it's brilliant , it's in the App Store on iOS .devices

Flugelpip · 13/06/2017 19:33

Mumsnet is free for members to use. if everyone has adblockers, ad revenue will plummet and the site will close. The internet is not free; you pay for it in various ways, both as a user and as a producer of content or creator of websites.

It's not that bad to have ads on the page, really, is it?

MetalMidget · 13/06/2017 19:34

Mumsnet was unusable for me until I got Adblock. I use the Adblock browser on my Android phone*, and I've got the Adblock app on my iPad.

*I actually only use the Adblock browser for Mumsnet and a biking forum due to the disruptive ads, I use Chrome for everything else!

Oldowl · 13/06/2017 19:36

I have just googled Adblock and installed it on my Chromebook. What a relief, those bloody ads were driving me nuts!

ScarlettFreestone · 13/06/2017 19:36

Noah I'm sure that you mean this to be "lighthearted" but that's not very nice to say that someone should lose their job to save you slight annoyance on a totally non essential website....

I'd don't use an Ad blocker I don't find them a problem, and I'd prefer not to pay a prescription.

Justbecauseitsso · 13/06/2017 19:38

Talk about overkill on the ads!! Not liking it at all...just have to go on mumsnet less now....perhaps my DH had a hand in it! Or maybe all our overlooked and ignored family members and friends. Anyway I can't even type or think straight with all these flashing ads.

redladybird · 13/06/2017 19:39

Does anyone know what I can use for a macbook? I tried adblocker and it didn't work.

Clandestino · 13/06/2017 19:40

I see no ads. I use an ad-blocker. It's free and I'm good.
I do recognise though that ads are how they earn money and even the ad-blocker lets some ads through. Some people apparently even like clicking on ads.
I hope you realise there are shitloads of ad-blockers on the internet. I use the Disconnect me. With proper usage you can filter out or let in whatever you want.

Flyinggeese · 13/06/2017 19:40

I agree with Flugelpip but also agree MN ads are OTT compared to many other sites. You get ad fatigue and surely that's counterproductive.

Oh and o wish they'd hurry up and change the pic on the Mumsnet Baboes Podcast / Fairy ad. The poor baby looks like he has a floating leg!

ApplePizza · 13/06/2017 19:42

Does anyone actually click on the ads? Honestly? I make a point of not clicking in them - they make the site unusable almost so I don't want to support them.

Roofflowers · 13/06/2017 19:44

They have 30 advertising networks that run on the site, not all are blocked via adblockers (such as skimlinks and Amazon referrals) and they have other revenue sources.
I've no issues with unintrusive ads but they've gone completely over the top with the ad fest and in some cases makes the site unusable.

ToothFairiesHaveNoChange · 13/06/2017 19:48

Not to mention the data usage on mobiles that the ads use.
