start using cheaper teabags or whatever is necessary to stop these bloody drop down ads!

I just want MN to be a useable forum - I don't care about the home page, community outreach, events. So if reducing the payroll would reduce the need for the fricking drop down ads, then I say FINE! I don't really mean it

Or maybe tech could just SORT THE ADs OUT ONCE & FOR ALL..

They've been plaguing me for weeks!

What's sad is you are blocking all adverts for you because of MN greed. What about all the other sites that don't get paid a fortune from lidi and craft?

LornaMumsnet · 14/06/2017 09:35

Hi all,

Thanks so much for flagging!

Can anyone upload some screenshots of the drop down ads so that we can take a look?

Well said MetalMidget

I have no problem whatsoever with ads.

My problem is with ads that slow my browser down to an unusable rate or continually crash the site.

How do those ads help me anyway? It drives people away or to install ad lockers.

Make them work and there won't be complaints (unless it's the floating ads that follow you down the page and make me feel seasick...)

NoHopeToday · 14/06/2017 09:42

How do those ads help mn not me (autocorrect)

WellThisIsShit · 14/06/2017 09:58

I hate the ads that take up half the width of the screen, and track vertically so you never get rid of them, which on a mobile is just too much of the screen eaten up.

You are followed by the ad down the page no matter how much you scroll, and you're forced to wait for the text to load in between the stalker/scrolling ads and the blocks of pictures built into the page very few sentences.

It seems quite random but if it increases then I'll have to find another website, as it's ridiculous having to fight through aggressive advertising in this way.

I suspect I'd be horrified if I added up how much time I waste staring at the screen waiting for ads to load and then trying to get past them to read the odd bit of content.

I don't think we should piously put up with it, or name call 'thieves' (!) to those who have found completely legitimate ways to improve their viewing experience.

Mumsnet will need to rebalance their revenue streams to appeal to people. They don't stand or fall on their ability to shove clunky badly designed advertising down our throats. Clearly their business model is more than ad revenues, though I'm sure it's a good portion of their business model, everything evolves... or dies of course.

Im sure HQ love threads on their site telling people how to avoid their ads Grin

ApplePizza · 14/06/2017 10:26

If the ads weren't so intrusive and aggressive, people wouldn't be telling people how to avoid them... if it weren't aggressive advertising, I might consider clicking on them. As it is, I refuse on principle.

Mulledwine1 · 14/06/2017 11:00

On my screen they're just down the side, they're not particularly intrusive, I just ignore them.

Occasionally there's one that takes up the whole screen but it's very rare, usually happens on other sites.

kali110 · 14/06/2017 11:08

I am constantly annoyed by an ad down the right hand side of rhe screen. It seems to have stopped now. Im on the iphone.
I stopped using for a while because of it.

RogerMumsnet · 14/06/2017 12:06

I think Mumsnet hq is wise enough to listen to feedback from its users rather than believe it's good business to impose some kind of unpleasant advertising penance on anyone trying to use its community boards.

After all, part of their business revenue is generated by their ability to know and listen to their massive online community. The 'take your medicine & be bloody grateful' style of business is happily dying out!

Having said all that, bravo Roger! It's not so common to have such a rapid and emphatic response :)

NoahPinnyon · 14/06/2017 19:57

We needed a man to sort it out for us Wink
