Yes Ill hav e to stay up all night next week (great, Im im disabled plus a carer and need my sleep.) and take a photo and catch them in the act.

They put their bins out at stupid o clock so I always miss it.

binmen don't take rubbish if bin lid isn't shut.
my bins full as it is.

NDNs are a HMO (house of Multi occupancy) and their landlord sayd he cant get any more bins from the council.
they have 2 between 6 couples.

theyre bins are overflowing as soon as the bins are emptied.

So. I catch them in the act. then what?

anti social/trespassing (bin in driveway) and disability hate crime? Can I tell police?

would police take it seriously?
council will start fining people who don't put rubbish properly. why should I be finedfor their wankiness?

AND just to top it all off, in 2 weeks time the rubbish will be collected fortnightly! double the rubbish.

Ive told the landlord but he doesn't say or do anything/Ive told the HMO's but they just sneer.

What can I do? its disgusting behaviour.

Can you put a lock on it? That's really awful of them to do that. Involve the council?

QuiQuaiQuod · 12/06/2017 14:39

council, in the past, with anything to do with them, (parking across my driveway etc) say its a police matter. police say its a council matter.

passing the buck.

cant put a lock, its a plastic bin and the binme need to have it able to open lid.

onlt thing I think of is getting up even earlier on Monday than I do (men come at 7am to empty bins), take NDNs bags out of my bin and throw them at their bins and have a rant (last thing I wantis to fall out with them even more).

but I bet if I do that Ill be the one that's in trouble for littering the pavement.

I cant carry on like this every bloody week.

I owned a HMO a few years ago and the amount of rubbish the tenants generated was staggering . They were too lazy to recycle and didn't seem to care that the front of the house looked like a landfill site. I ended up making loads of trips to the dump to get rid of it myself.

I would email the council and maybe your local MP giving them the name of the landlord.

I would also make sure I was waiting outside for the next bin collection and explain the situation to the bin men. If you take rubbish out of the bin that's not yours , I would hope that there is identifying rubbish in there to prove its not yours.

CadnoDrwg · 12/06/2017 14:47

You can buy a special bin lock. They're about £25 on amazon. Not ideal as you're not causing the problem but they do the job.

The lid will only open if:

  1. You have the key
or
  1. The bin is tilted to the right degree to be emptied into a lorry

I'd double check the house is listed and checked as an official HMO if the landlord is saying they cannot get any more bins too. Councils in my area are mean with bin space but they do have a minimum per household that I haven't seen them be unfair about.

ThatsNotMyMummy · 12/06/2017 14:50

I've seen others suggest on here a lock that still opens for the bin men but locks for people like your neighbours. I'll have a Google now. Hopefully someone with one will post

CadnoDrwg · 12/06/2017 14:50

www.britishbins.co.uk/gravity-lock.html

Like this (the ones on Amazon are £45 now!!)

Hi

I moved in to my first property 2 years ago with the next door house vacant. About 6 months later a couple and their 2 toddlers arrived. After 2 weeks from arriving.. the ndn threw a massive black bag full of rubbish in my green bin!!! I was horrified. I calmly took it out, and left it outside their gate.

They never did it again. It was awkward for a few weeks and now i'm back to normal with them Wink

Goodluck !! You could try the same..

drspouse · 12/06/2017 15:09

What time do the binmen come?
Do the NDN put their rubbish in your bin in bags or not?
Where does your bin live before bin day?

If the bin men come at a reasonable time and you're up/in (ours usually come between us getting up and leaving for the school run) you could take out the NDN rubbish and leave it back on their drive. You've already told them, they need to sort it out.

If they are putting it in your bin loose then that's not going to work really.

But if your bin lives in your back garden/shed/special wheelie bin cupboard between visits, then just wait till 1/2 an hour before the bin men come to put it out.

(Or, as others have said, just get a lock).

thereallochnessmonster · 12/06/2017 15:11

Could you hide your bin in a garage or shed - or somewhere the NDN can't access it?

Saladd0dger · 12/06/2017 15:14

I used to have this issue with my old neighbours. I use to take it out and toss it in there garden, cheeky gits

Ceto · 12/06/2017 15:14

Ask the council whether they're actually allowed to have that many people next door. If they are, ask them to arrange to leave them more bins as they obviously don't have enough. I bet the landlord hasn't bothered to ask.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 12/06/2017 15:16

If you're up before the binmen and they're doing it late at night then you don't need a gravity lock, you can just use a padlock or cable ties or whatever and then open the bin first thing in the morning.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/06/2017 15:17

OP, as you're disabled, will the bin men come onto your property to collect the bin? Our council does that for elderly or disabled residents and it might put your neighbours off doing this. Disgusting of them though, they know the rules as well as you do.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 12/06/2017 15:19

Our council provide extra large bins for HMO's now , but in order to get one you obviously have to be registered as such with them ( and pay £750 for a bloody landlords license)

diddl · 12/06/2017 15:28

If you are one person & you fill your bin, how is 2 bins for 6 couples ever going to be doable?

How do people get through so much rubbish?

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 12/06/2017 15:31

The OP is a carer so that's at last two people.

expatinscotland · 12/06/2017 15:31

Bin lock. It's the only way.

stella23 · 12/06/2017 15:36

Op our neighbours put rubbish in our bin, I just took it out and put it at the end of their path, they didn't do it again and if they didn't would do the same again

We get 240l bins collected fortnightly. We had a 240l bin at our old house but our back yard is tiny so when we were a childless couple we asked for a smaller bin and got a 140L, I'm assuming, bin, which was also collected fortnightly. We carried on having no problems with an over full bin up to having a 5 year old and a 2 year old (but we recently moved house and it was a pain when we were decluttering).

Now we fill our 240L bin but I am wondering if we should go back to a 140L bin once we've settled down with no works being done etc. It was fine in our old house (even with nappies - we've gone through periods of using disposables and periods of washables and even with disposables it's been fine).

DoloresTheRunawayTrain · 12/06/2017 15:51

My next door neighbour used to do this. Along with having all night parties for most of the week which kept half of a very long street up.
I finally had enough and managed to catch him at a time when he had his door open to take shopping in and had raided my bin space. I chucked his crap back through his front door and into his front room. He didn't do it again. Wish that had worked for the parties though.
