Feeling the love for this group too. The brilliant curation of material, insight and joking around is helping me keep sane in the madness and sadness of this era we live in.

mobile.nytimes.com/2017/06/14/us/politics/mueller-trump-special-counsel-investigation.html?referer=www.google.com/

NYT is saying that 'all indications are' that Mueller is investigating Trump for criminal wrongdoing. The WaPo is coming out and reporting it as fact.

Please let it be true. I refuse to give in to optimism though. There have been too many of those 'this is it!' moments in the past that have been a letdown.

Seth Abramson @SethAbramson

(THREAD) The RNC just released its most important talking points memo of the last 25 years. Every word is false. These 100 tweets prove it.

(DOCUMENT): Here you will find tonight's RNC talking points, which address POTUS being under criminal investigation.

[ Philip Rucker @PhilipRucker

A source sent me RNC/Trump talking points for Repubs seeking to discredit tonight’s WaPo scoop on Mueller investigating Trump obstruction —> ]

Seth Abramson @SethAbramson
(GOAL): I'll refute every sentence in these talking points in 100 tweets. Why? Because we're at a historic crossroads and the truth matters.

(1) There is a prima facie case for Obstruction of Justice against Trump. This is the majority opinion of on- and off-air trial attorneys.

Criminal investigation against Trump was just mentioned on R4. Interesting times.

On the subject of the thread love in, I also want to say how great this thread it. Not only with navigating the events in America, but it is also proving invaluable in dealing with what is happening with the political situation in the UK. I genuinely believe that we can and should learn from Trump and not allow the same to happen here. This thread helps make those connections.

Sorry to the Americans that you have had to act as the example of how not to do Government, it's if any comfort the UK seem to be acting as the example of how not to do the EU. It's a shitty job, but, somebody gotta do it. Wink

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 15/06/2017 07:11

Indeed Bigly. We stand united in our collective dismay at the constitutional clusterfucks we are in the midst of. Here's hoping some grown-ups step in to sort it all out & sharpish.

MetalMidget · 15/06/2017 07:16

This thread alone is over 300 posts long and somewhat lacking in maps, graphs and pictures. Also, MN formatting options don't allow for bullet points.

I hate that this comment is funny, yet also depressingly 100% accurate.

I still can't get over that America elected that thing.

They did, but don't forget that more people wanted Hillary over trump.

Cake for all of you for this thread, as we seem to be largely bun-fight free!

BiglyBadgers · 15/06/2017 07:36

But it does sound as if they aren't barred completely, just that an abortion won't be free, correct? So, technically a facility could charge a nominal fee, just as long as they charged something?

I think that's a lovely idea across, but difficult for the NHS to do. Even if they don't have standardised prices determined centrally (which they might, I'm not sure) the procedure will still cost them money to deliver and they are just not in the position to carry out procedures for free that will not be subsidised from NHS budgets. Not to mention it would be seen as politicising the NHS in a way that would be a very big deal.

I think there is room for charities to raise money to pay for the procedure for women from NI. Possibly there are already some who do this.

bigly this charity was mentioned in a mumsnet thread ages ago about women in Ireland accessing abortions www.asn.org.uk

They help with travel fees and finding accommodation, although I don't knownif they help with medical fees.

I still can't get over that America elected that thing

Or, as is beginning to seem possible, they didn't. Still, US politics has been about style over substance for a very long time, and whatever else he can't do, Trump can do style. And at least he has got a penis, tiny though it may be. Hillary, not having one, is thereby disqualified from high office - unless and until some popular film or TV series does for female presidents what "24" did for black presidents. Cynical? Maybe...

blueskyinmarch · 15/06/2017 08:09

I love that this is a thread with moral integrity. Even when people come on and try to defend Trump they are dealt with firmly but politely with no nastiness This is the James Comey of Mumsnet threads

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 15/06/2017 08:10

According to the Times -
President demands changes to 'mean' health bill
President Trump has performed a dramatic about-face on healthcare reform, dismissing as 'mean' a bill he urged congressional Republicans to pass and demanding the Senate draft a more generous one.
The bill is 'mean' he told a White House lunch attended by Republican senators on Tuesday. The Senate, he said, should rewrite the legislation to make it "generous, kind, with heart...And that may be adding additional money into it"

I read this in the paper edition, but I can't find it anywhere on the Times website, so perhaps it's since been decided that kindness and heart aren't needed after all.
