Skincare - if you have 'good skin', what do you use on it?

AIBU to ask you all a skincare-related question?

First of all, how would you define as 'good skin'?

And, secondly, if you have 'good skin', what do you use on it and what sort of lifestyle do you have (what do you normally eat/drink etc.)?

My actual AIBU is am I being unreasonable to be this nosy/curious Wink

How would you define 'good skin' even.

Good skin: clear, unblemishe, not obviously dry/flaky or greasy looking, fresh looking.

I use micellar water and aldi serum. These are my basic products and have various pots of stuff that I slather on here and there

Oh. And sunscreen.

I have good skin. 47.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/06/2017 23:04

mine is okay - also 47

I get the odd hormonal spot on my chin but it's mainly clear

I use what ever is on offer - and sunscreen April-Oct

I have horrid hormonal marks though including a brown hormone mustache - but I don't wear make up as a rule

DelphiniumBlue · 11/06/2017 23:06

Exactly what Molly said, but No.7 Protect and Perfect serum, for the last few years. Prior to that, Oil of Ulay/Play, plus any old night cream - Aldi currently, but previously whatever's on offer.
Sunscreen is so important.
I'm in my fifties, with good skin. I think its genetic, my mum's skin is great, and she only uses cheap moisturizer, if anything at all.

Mine's OK. I'm 40. I just wash it with water in the bath/shower and use a moisturiser, usually L'Oreal.
Once a week-ish I use St Ives apricot scrub.
I think a lot is down to luck/hormones.

Mumoftu · 11/06/2017 23:07

I have good skin I think. No visible pores or spots/dry patches. Even tone. I've only ever used plain water and moisturiser but I've started using the Protect and Perfect serum as I started to see the start of some fine lines on my forehead about a year ago.

AfunaMbatata · 11/06/2017 23:07

Dove soap, simple heavy moisturiser and factor 50 sunscreen.

Huldra · 11/06/2017 23:08

Wash in a standard facial wash and use any facial mosituriser that's on special offer. I have dry skin so have to use moisturiser but don't really have wrinkles. I'm 47 and still get mistaken for my late 20's, or early 30's, I often have to visit a variety of customer offices and get the regular confused comments.

Drink at weekends, too much sometimes. Drink too much tea and coffee. There's nothing amazing about my diet but I do eat lots of veg and drink lots of water. I've never been a smoker and dislike sunbathing.

I think it's luck really, I've never been beautiful or pretty Grin but my skin has mainly been ok.

LostSight · 11/06/2017 23:09

Water. Sunscreen when I'm out in the sun. That's it really.

DramaAlpaca · 11/06/2017 23:10

I have good skin, it's clear and unlined and I'm in my early 50s. It's actually improved as I've got older as it's no longer inclined to be greasy.

All I use is moisturiser with a sunscreen, and I rarely wear makeup as I don't like the feel of it on my skin.

I drink loads of water and stay out of the sun.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 11/06/2017 23:11

I'm 37 with good skin.

I eat shit, don't drink enough, only moisturise when I remember and don't take my make up off until the next morning with a baby wipe.

It's purely genetic. My mum had fab skin too and she smoked 20 a day.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 11/06/2017 23:11

Actually I forgot to say that the one thing both me and mum do/did is stay out of the sun.

PaperdollCartoon · 11/06/2017 23:12

I have good skin, it's commented on a lot. I get some redness but smooth, fairly 'normal' but can edge towards dry, no spots (never really had many in my life, no hint of a wrinkle at nearly 30.

Firstly I think it's largely genetic. My parents and siblings have never had spots much either and my mum didn't wrinkles until pretty late.
Secondly I cleanse and moisturise twice most days. Mostly Sukin stuff. I never sleep in make up. I also drink a shit load of water (though also a lot of wine!) and never sit in the sun or use sun beds.

Babbitywabbit · 11/06/2017 23:12

Plain water for washing and No 7 protect and perfect. Also always wear sunscreen and drink lots of water. As others have said, I reckon good skin is mainly down to genetics, plus protecting from the sun and not smoking. I'm early 50s and I'd say my skin is pretty good. Certainly compared with friends my age who've been sun worshippers or smokers

Xmasbaby11 · 11/06/2017 23:14

I'm 41 and my skin is clear and even, no wrinkles, nice colour. Normal, no dry or greasy bits. However I do look bettee with BB cream so it's not perfect skin.

I use facial wash, serum and moisturiser, whatever brand is on offer for about a fiver each. I do experiment sometimes but I can use anything on my skin really, it's not sensitive. I've used shower gel and after sun on it before if I've forgotten my face stuff.

RapunzelsRealMom · 11/06/2017 23:14

I'm 46 and have used Clinique's 3 step regime since I was about 20. I keep thinking I should update but it still seems to work for me.
Recently, because of a MN thread, I've used Aldi serum and moisturiser instead of Clinique Dramatically Different. It's been fine but I'll go back to the norm when it's finished.

RedClock · 11/06/2017 23:27

I have had bad skin all my life, worse during puberty, pregnancy and now menopause. Tried all kinds of treatments and nothing worked. Two years ago a doctor gave me Lymecycline capsules and I've had lovely skin ever since - maybe one spot a month if I'm stressed. Good skin to me was always skin that didn't hurt or look spotty and inflamed.

I use micellar water on it now and Astral moisturiser. After a lifetime of spots and red patches I still can't believe how different my face is now!

JennaRainbow · 11/06/2017 23:38

I don't drink alcohol, smoke or drink coffee or eat dairy. My skin is great I think! I only ever use organic products on it, always clean it every night and drink 2/3 litres a day. I use a BB cream with spf in it too and always try and wear a hat in the sun.

Nettletheelf · 11/06/2017 23:45

Yes, most of it is genetic but my skin is much better than my younger sister's. I think that's because I use a balm cleanser instead of her face wipes, plus I acid tone and use serum, which she doesn't. Also, I've spent less time in the sun.

quencher · 11/06/2017 23:46

Ren I Minute rinse flash). A facial product I love more than anything. You only use it every two to three days. It removes oily things, those white things, and dead skin without scrubbing. You apply, leave it, then rinse. Best with cold water and not to over wipe afterwards.
https://www.renskincare.com/uk/flash-rinse-1-minute-facial.html?gclid=CKKJqavmttQCFcO4GwodK4gIPw

night cream. I tend to mix mine with pure glycerin. Some people will find that too oily and it can be sticky too. I do it and then only touch base in the morning after rinse.

I don't use wipes because I think they can be hard on the skin. I wash it the same time I wash my body and clean it properly. I never bother washing my face separately.

I get more skin damages using wipes (both soapy and non) than I do using normal shower gel.
(The wipes comment is in regards to removing makeup.)

I never leave my skin to dry.

I have never believed in makeup giving you bad skin if you fall sleep with it as long as you clean your face properly and use good products.

Good skin = Soft and supple all the way.
At the moment I am stack with dove ( for extra dry skin/ deep care complex) daily. Mixed with nuxe shimmering dry oil. The dove offers water base to the oil.
I always mix because I am never confident in one product including hair products, and I will try until I find the right one, I hope.

Ollivander84 · 11/06/2017 23:46

I only have good skin now because I work at it! Left to its own devices I have hormonal acne all over my chin and jaw

Kokusai · 11/06/2017 23:48

Eat and drink 'normally' or good and bad in moderation.

Wash with water and use SPF moisturiser when I can remember.

I've got fab skin. It's total luck!!!!!

MooMooTheFirst · 11/06/2017 23:54

I've got good skin (although I'm only 29) and it's taken a hell of a battering this year what with it's first experience of sleep deprivation thanks to my First DC! I try to remember to moisturise after a shower, with the white pot of Nivea stuff. I never wash my face with anything but water, don't smoke, don't really drink and really only drink water, although nowhere near enough. I never take my make up off. I'm pretty certain it's luck of the draw!

GrimDamnFanjo · 11/06/2017 23:58

I have great skin and am basically line free at 47. My mum looks good at 70. I'm haphazard but try and have a double cleanse, acid tone, serum and moisturise routine. I don't tan naturally so I've always used sunscreen and I don't smoke.
