Skincare - if you have 'good skin', what do you use on it?

AIBU to ask you all a skincare-related question?

First of all, how would you define as 'good skin'?

And, secondly, if you have 'good skin', what do you use on it and what sort of lifestyle do you have (what do you normally eat/drink etc.)?

My actual AIBU is am I being unreasonable to be this nosy/curious Wink

I'm late twenties and I have good skin. It's down to rarely wearing make up.

robinia · 12/06/2017 00:01

Totally genetic here - mum is in her 80s and skin probably looks 60s-ish. I'm 50s and only the odd smile lines at my eyes, no wrinkles on forehead etc. Even tone, rarely wear foundation etc and don't do anything to it except wash with water and/or basic shower gel.

Titsywoo · 12/06/2017 00:03

I'm always told I have good skin. I'm 38. I do fuck all. I don't use soap I just let water wash my face in the shower. No products except maybe a bit of Simple moisturiser a couple of times a week. I always forget to take my makeup off. I do drink a lot of water. I smoked and drank a lot until recently. I do use factor 50 and mostly stay out of the sun. Honestly I think it's just genetics. I did have bad acne as a teen so I guess this is my karma for that!

Titsywoo · 12/06/2017 00:03

Oh yes I hardly ever wear makeup too

Snowinsummer · 12/06/2017 00:07

No lines - 44 - frequently taken to be much younger. I don't smoke or drink much & I keep out of the sun. I also don't wear makeup as a general rule. I wash my face with soap & water & use moisturiser (no specific one just one without spf)

JuicyStrawberry · 12/06/2017 00:08

I use No7 Hot Cloth Cleanser, No7 toner and No7 day/night cream.
I also go for regular microdermabrasion sessions to keep my skin extra clean!

Missb00 · 12/06/2017 00:09

Sunbeds Blush I know it's awful but it makes my skin so clear.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/06/2017 00:10

Yes, along with not wearing make up I also don't drink or smoke, so that'll definitely help.

JuicyStrawberry · 12/06/2017 00:12

I don't drink or smoke either. Drink lots of water. Try to eat as much fruit and veg as I can although some days I'm terrible at this!

WithCheesePlease · 12/06/2017 00:13

I would say taking off your makeup at night is a big factor, but not with makeup 'wipes'- apparently they're really bad for your skin, and all that dragging gives you wrinkles. I use a face wash and just my fingers instead.

notangelinajolie · 12/06/2017 00:17
  1. Good skin. No wrinkles or blemishes. I don't have any skincare regime. Never wear make up. It's just genetics. Shit going bald hair though - also genetic ☹
Seeingadistance · 12/06/2017 01:35

I'm 49, and am regularly taken for being much younger. Skin is soft and smooth.

Don't wear make-up, don't wash my face other than wipe it with my wet hands in bath or shower. Moisturise every morning after shower with E45 cream. That's it. If it's sunny, I use sun cream - usually factor 15, I think. I'm in Scotland, and don't usually holiday anywhere sunny.

Drink loads of coffee, used to smoke and was a heavy drinker in my youth.

Am sure it's mostly genetic. Both parents always looked young for their age as well.

TheKrakenSmith · 12/06/2017 07:08

Aside from eczema on my arms when I eat dairy, I follow my Nana's skin care routine. She's 74 and has fantastic skin, I'm 23 and people don't believe I don't wear foundation. Aside from freckles I don't have blemishes I don't think?
I wash my face with an incredibly basic, unperfumed soap, and moisturise with Dream Cream from lush. It's super light and works well for me. Less seems to be more.

Grilledaubergines · 12/06/2017 07:10

Factor 50 suncream every single day of the year. Clarins skincare products. I have good skin.

I have clear skin with no blocked pores nor visible pores.
I use plain bar soap to wash x2 per day.
Salicylic acid toner only on nose and chin at night.
Grapeeseed oil
I don't sunbathe. I don't use much sun cream though as it clogs me up.

Paninotogo · 12/06/2017 07:26

Good skin: no spots, no blotchiness, no wrinkles, very glowy.
I use CeraVe products, I live in the US where they are cheap as chips, and they really suit my skin. I think it is more to do with not smoking, wearing sunscreen and genetics though.

Groupie123 · 12/06/2017 09:01

Maintain your weight (any weight). Lose weight slowly. Eat vegetables. Use sunscreen. Dress well. Helps if you're not white as white women tend to age far earlier than Asian/black women. I'm pushing 40 and Asian and look about 15 years younger than the white women my age at work.

blueshoes · 12/06/2017 11:47

It's been said that after a certain age, a woman has to choose between their face and their arse.

I wonder how many women here with good skin also still 'good arse'. Must it be one or the other?

SallyGinnamon · 12/06/2017 13:36

I'm always being complimented on my skin, as are/were DM and DGM so it's mainly genetics.

Good skin is blemish free, has a certain glow and dewiness with few or no wrinkles.

I'm 52 and have only ever used water on my face in the shower. Whatever moisturiser every morning. Used to be Aldi at £2 a pot but now Liz Earle as a gift. Will buy Sainsbury's own label next time as not tested on animals.

Very rarely wear any make up and then generally mascara and lippy. I NEVER take it off before bed much to DD's disgust!

SallyGinnamon · 12/06/2017 13:37

Blueshoes. I heard it was face or body. I.e. If you kept skinny your face looked drawn.

MycatsaPirate · 12/06/2017 13:51

I use a mild facial scrub a couple of times a week but generally just wash with soap and water.

I don't put anything else on my skin. No moisturiser, make up or creams. Except sun cream in the summer. I am outdoors a lot.

I'm 48. I have good skin. I do think it's hereditary though.

MycatsaPirate · 12/06/2017 13:54

Totally outing myself but this is me. (and dp).

Skincare - if you have 'good skin', what do you use on it?
Elphame · 12/06/2017 14:13

Mine is "good" and I'm told I look a lot younger than I am (55). Genetics is key - my mother never used anything but Oil of Uley and looks to be in her 60s rather than late 70s.

I use virtually nothing on mine but plain water and occasionally Astral cream if it's a bit dry. Any make up I wear is from one of the mineral make up ranges.

I believe good skin care comes from within rather than from expensive potions so I take care to eat healthily and include plenty of avocados. Not having ever smoked has also worked in my favour

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 12/06/2017 15:13

Micellar water, Clinique moisture surge extra and that's it.
No scrubs, masques, toners or serum.
And loads of water.

A full facial twice a year. My beautician says my skin is more like a women in her late 20s than v early forties. Think some of it is definitely genetic as my mum has fantastic skin. Both my grandmothers did, like velvet.

I wear light Iiquid makeup with spf every day with basic eye / lip / blush makeup and take it off every night.

The only time I've ever had spots is when I was pregnant with my children in the first trimester.
