Is back in the Cabinet, doing for the environment what he did to education.

FML.

I watch it every so often just to cheer myself up!

metspengler · 11/06/2017 19:44

He very professionally knifed BoJo in the back last year, to be fair. Really good hatchet job that no one saw coming.

I hope you're joking and you read between the lines on that one?

Students sitting exams and we don't know how to mark them. Utter, utter incompetence that we are struggling with.

Agreed, but that's not Michael Gove's fault.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 11/06/2017 19:45

If you don't like the Cabinet, don't worry, it isn't going to last long.

Ceto · 11/06/2017 19:46

He was actually better as Lord Chancellor than expected, though he was a disaster area in education. I think he should have gone back to the Ministry of Justice.

And, given his ambitions for the leadership, TM may well regret bringing him back into the cabinet.

ExplodedCloud · 11/06/2017 19:47

Hunt stays in post and Gove gets brought back into the fold. It's all batshit crazy.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 11/06/2017 19:47

I expect it was one of the many things she was told to do, or risk a leadership challenge.

I really don't know how she has the front to carry on with the Charade that's she is the leader. She will have very little power and must have an ego the size of a very large elephant.

Ceto · 11/06/2017 19:48

There's a rumour going around that he knifed Boris because word came to him about a major skeleton in Bojo's cupboard. Presumably the skeleton is still there waiting to come out and entertain us all Thinking about it, maybe TM has brought him back to clip Boris's wings.

noblegiraffe · 11/06/2017 19:48

The new exams and the uncertainty around them is totally Michael Gove's fault. He's the one that decided to rush an entirely untested new set of qualifications through on a ridiculously short timetable because he wanted them embedded before the 2015 General Election.
He's the one who decided that they wouldn't be piloted on a small group alongside the old GCSEs as was done when we moved from O-levels to GCSEs.

He doesn't like experts, so he ignored us on this.

Fortnum · 11/06/2017 19:49

He wanted Climate Changed moved from Geography and into the Science Curriculum- all students take Science. However the left spun it that he was a climate denier. Because they lie. Calm down you hysterical lot !

BrexitSucks · 11/06/2017 19:50

If Gove coming in means BoJo staying out, that might be a price worth paying.

I'm a staunch labour supporter and the pigs ear he's made of education is frankly unforgivable but I have to admit that I think moving climate change from geography to science is possibly not a bad thing?

Is there the slim chance that education was just entirely the wrong role for him and he might actually be not terrible as environmental secretary?

VanillaSugar · 11/06/2017 19:53

I'm now obsessing about what the skeleton in Boris's wardrobe is!

Well, to people who think the Tories are all bad and unsuitable for office.

Those people should hope to win an election and then it won't happen :)

abilockhart · 11/06/2017 19:58

Not that we didn't have more than enough crackpots as it was and now "Britain has had enough of experts" Gove is added to the mix. Hmm

Theresa May trying to save herself and not the country.

abilockhart · 11/06/2017 20:00

Theresa May takes self-interest to a whole new level.

Bolshybookworm · 11/06/2017 20:01

The Tory party are an absolute shambles at the moment, the opposition don't have to hope that they win, just that the tories lose (again).

HTH

SusieOwl4 · 11/06/2017 20:03

I think it's a case of keeping your enemies closer.

PaulDacresFeministConscience · 11/06/2017 20:05

TM will have had naff-all to do with Gove being on the cabinet. It will be another requirement - in the long list - that she needs to agree to in order to keep the backing of the party and the 1922 committee.

She gave Gove the boot the day after she took the Premiership and will have no love for him at all - having seen what a political operator he is and what he did to BoJo. But for all his faults he is an astute politician, very capable and very well connected. Also do not underestimate the power of his connections. He's been writing for the Times and his wife is a Daily Mail columnist. TM needs the backing of the Murdoch press as well as Dacre being on side, if she stands any chance of remaining in power.

I suspect TM has about as much power and control right now as you or I do. She is not holding the whip hand right now - hence the cabinet re-shuffle and her joint chiefs of staff having to resign.

VanillaSugar · 11/06/2017 20:06

You know "The Play that Goes Wrong" and "Peter Pan Goes Wrong"?

This is "The Tory Government Goes Wrong" Confused 😲

OP posts:
metspengler · 11/06/2017 20:12

now "Britain has had enough of experts" Gove

To add to the point about lefty spin on climate change above, one important part of that quote that is often missed out is this:

GETTING IT CONSISTENTLY WRONG

A pretty important part of the quote that changes the meaning, really.

The British people have had enough of experts from organisations with acronyms saying that they know what is best and getting it consistently wrong

7461Mary18 · 11/06/2017 20:12

There are at lot of anti Tory people out on MN today! Remember more of us voted Tory than Labour and we are very happy with what May is doing.

That is democracy. Labour did not win.

SusieOwl4 · 11/06/2017 20:12

And in the Labour Party all those that tried to get rid of Corbyn are apparently now falling at his feet even though he was still 60 plus seats short! They are all as bad as one another .

zen1 · 11/06/2017 20:14

Oh well. At least I may get the chance to recycle the "Sack Gove" banner I had for one of the education demos. Gove should approve as Environment Secretary.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 11/06/2017 20:14

Vanilla love those playsGrin. I've been to see The play That Goes Wrong 3 times with various people. So, so funny.

Thye really should do a political one, The Thick Of it but with a lot of falling over.
