Just sat down to watch a bit of news. Saw he was on Sky (despite THAT tantrum), can't be doing with him so flick to BBC24 and there is he participating in a round-table "discussion" - which for Owen Jones means glowering at everyone then furiously and darkly laying into the host and publicly scratching away at that chip on his shoulder. He cannot debate, can only sulk, strop and spout off as though he is the bloody oracle and no-one else knows anything. He talks over everyone. He's a very stroppy sort of grownup.

this is my new favourite insult, metspengler Grin

Terfing · 11/06/2017 20:24

@Supernothing22

I disagree. I voted Labour, despite people like Oj....

HelenaDove · 11/06/2017 20:32

I read Chavs a couple of years ago. Excellent book but when he talked about a miners wife who died of a heart attack in her early 30s due to the stress of the miners strike she was just referred to as miners wife.

Supernothing22 · 11/06/2017 21:06

@terfing

That's fine everyone has their own opinion.

I like him. He reminds me of the character of Rik in the Young Ones.

GenerationEx · 11/06/2017 22:41

I find him very infantile. His book Chavs reads like a student essay. I particularly liked his romanticising of the life and work of a miner when the quotes included in his book alluded to the fact that the miners he spoke to would never want that life for their child.

He's a complete dick and I have no idea how he gets so much air time getting offended on behalf of the workers and any other minority he can dream up.

birdsdestiny · 11/06/2017 22:41

His change of mind over Corbyn (twice) has been very funny to watch.

TulipsInAJug · 11/06/2017 22:42

Isn't the the guy who stormed out of a live TV interview last year?

ElizabethLemon · 11/06/2017 22:48

This is what happens when you spoil DS I think, it's great while they're small and cute, probably less so when they pass 18 and you realise you have to put up with a squealing homunculus for a son for the rest of your life.

LOL

MrsPorth · 11/06/2017 22:53

He's a bit "sixth-form debating society" but he's not my least favourite columnist.

gunting · 11/06/2017 23:01

I'm 24 and a Labour voter so apparently should be fond of him but I think he's a bit of a twat. It's that kind of sneery, 'I'm cleverer than you' shite that puts people off the left.

Anything he's written goes in the same category as anything on The Canary. I mostly ignore it.

dontbesillyhenry · 11/06/2017 23:01

He's the male Jack Monroe. Pompous little fuckwit

Rhayader · 11/06/2017 23:37

YANBU, I made an effort during the EU ref campaign to make sure that i followed pages and people with opposing views to myself so i started following people with all sorts of views for exposure (some similar and some opposing).

I had to unfollow him because he annoyed me so much.

Bejazzled · 13/06/2017 10:10

He hasn't the self awareness to be intelligent. He is loud and vociferous in his criticism of the Tories speaking to the DUP but ironically, well.....I'll just leave this here...

TakeThatFuckingDressOffNow · 13/06/2017 10:24

Are you kidding me - he was being shouted down by this sky twats!!! Even if you find him annoying, he is right. I would have given that sky fuckwit a mouthful!!!

CrossWordSalad · 13/06/2017 10:50

He wasn't being shouted down by anyone. If I understood what he was trying to say, he believed that the Orlando nightclub murders were an exclusively homophobic attack, and that the fact that the murderer had pledged allegiance to ISIS and was an Islamist terrorist was irrelevant. The other guests were trying to put an opposing view, hardly shouting him down.

limitedperiodonly · 13/06/2017 12:40

I'm torn about his Sky flounce. In one way it is typical Owen Jones histrionics, but though it hurts me to admit it, he had a point.

It was a homophobic attack. The person chose to target a gay club. You can see it in the wider context of an attack on people out enjoying themselves as the presenter, Mark Longhurst and Owen's fellow guest Julia Hartley-Brewer said. But I do think they missed the significance and I am by no means a fan of little Owen Jones.

I accept it when people say that the attack on the Ariana Grande concert was an attack aimed at young women, albeit within the wider context of an ISIS inspired assault on Western values.

You're on safer ground with the 'we're all in it together' line with the two London attacks. At Borough the Australian waitress, Candice Hedge, shouted something about 'you people' or 'your values' before he stabbed her in the throat.

I keep looking at pictures of the eight dead and have realised that only one was a British man. Everyone else was a foreigner out enjoying themselves here.

limitedperiodonly · 13/06/2017 12:44

Candice Hedge, shouted something about 'you people' or 'your values' before he stabbed her in the throat.

Sorry, Candice didn't shout something. She said her attacker did.

WRT to Owen's Sky flounce: I think Longhurst handled a volatile guest somewhat clumsily but meant no offence. I'm not going to stand up for that fuckwit Hartley-Brewer though.

Wormulonian · 13/06/2017 13:03

MrsPorth I agree - he's known as "the cleverest boy in the sixth form" in our house Grin
