To not like the leg jiggler on the train?

First post on mumsnet so keeping this lighthearted.

I commute to London everyday for work and I'm on a train back home now. But unfortunately I've got a leg jiggler sat next to me. It's annoying me as I can feel the jiggling and I want him to stop. The train is full so I don't want to lose my seat either so cannot get off. Train etiquettes do not allow speaking to strangers so how can I get him to stop? Sigh.

Don't be too harsh - leg jiggling and toe tapping can be tactics employed by those with anxiety (like myself) as a grounding technique. Sorry it's annoying!

ShesNoNormanPace · 08/06/2017 17:32

Ahh. The wee-wee dance. Perhaps he needs the loo.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 08/06/2017 17:39

Ask him politely to stop doing it? I've done that before, it's always worked and I've never had anyone snap at me or be rude.

justkeepswimmingg · 08/06/2017 17:40

I'd said anxiety related. You say it's a full train, he may have problems being in a confined space with a large amount of people. Could even be a tick, that he doesn't actually realise he is doing excessively. None the less, I'm sure it's annoying that it's also making you jiggle too.

princesseggo · 08/06/2017 17:40

I agree with you on this! Can't stand people jiggling their legs, it makes me feel sick Blush

Marmalady75 · 08/06/2017 17:40

Do it right back to him?

towhitowhoo · 08/06/2017 17:41

He's stopped now. :)
And sorry, I did not realise it could be a sign of anxiety. I did once have someone tell me it was a sign of sexual frustration though. I know that's unlikely to be true but the thought has stuck and every time I come across a leg jiggler, that's what I am reminded of first!

He may be an aspie and stimming, as explained above it's part of coping a bit like having a fidget toy

TakeThatFuckingDressOffNow · 08/06/2017 17:42

I am so sorry - I am the queen of leg jiggling. I have had members of my family describe how they would like to murder me slowly..... But even as we speak I am jiggling away.

I would start jiggling back, they will realise.

twattymctwatterson · 08/06/2017 17:45

I have restless leg syndrome. Believe me it's far more annoying to me than anyone else

towhitowhoo · 08/06/2017 17:46

He's started again. 🙄
But having read about it being a coping mechanism, I'm going to let it slide and try not to feel it too much.

LOL - I did wonder why my carriage is fill of blokes in the morning, maybe the jiggling is attracting the 'wrong' crowd! Grin

SquidgeyMidgey · 08/06/2017 17:47

I do that Blush I just do it unconsciously when im.sitting for a period of time. I apologise on his behalf Grin

nell15 · 08/06/2017 17:47

It could be restless leg syndrome and the person maybe highly embarrassed I suffer from it and I get it in situations like on the train, the theatre or cinema it's an awful creeping irritating desire to move my leg and there's not much I can do to stop when it happens.

ExplodedCloud · 08/06/2017 17:50

If he's a middle aged stubbly bloke it might be DH in which case, I'm sorry Grin

angryladyboobs · 08/06/2017 17:53

Sit on him.

towhitowhoo · 08/06/2017 17:54

Exploded 😂😂

angryladyboobs · 08/06/2017 17:54

Dp does this and it drives me mad.

I actually sit on him when he keeps doing it.

crazywriter · 08/06/2017 17:57

I do it without realising. If it annoyed you and you asked me to stop I would (and I'd apologise for not realising I was doing it). But yes it can also be a coping method for those with anxiety. I just can't sit still for long periods of time (like longer than 5 minutes Blush )

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 08/06/2017 17:57

Mmm, seat next to jiggler or stand for rest of journey?

When I had morning sickness that leg jiggling by a fellow passenger or colleague at meeting would make me want to hurl.

towhitowhoo · 08/06/2017 17:59

It's over! I'm off the train. He got off at the same stop too 😬

Yeah sorry OP I'm with the leg jigglers Blush mine is part of my ADHD.

Glad to see you made it through the journey without murdering him though Wink

IWantABlueBanana · 08/06/2017 18:09

It would do my tits in too. But I'm also a sufferer of essential tremor so would be mindful it could be a leg tremor.

RoboticSealpup · 08/06/2017 18:11

Sorry, that might've been my DH. Wink He's the least anxious person in the world but he does this almost constantly and he never even knows he's doing it until I tell him.

silkpyjamasallday · 08/06/2017 18:24

I had an invigilator in an exam come up to me and told me that a student behind me had asked that I stopped because it was distracting her, pretty aggressively. What if I'd been doing it because of anxiety? I wasn't to be fair, I was just subconsciously doing It as I was bored as I had finished a while beforehand. I do think it's ok to ask if people mind stopping though.
