To change who I'm voting for last minute

gunting · 07/06/2017 22:12

Since the election was called, I joined a political party. I went to meetings, campaigned and even helped with PR for my local candidate. This party with the lib dems.

For the past few days I've felt like perhaps I was wrong. I keep seeing Corbyn on the TV and I feel like what he's saying would actually change my life in a significant way.

I'm torn now between who to vote for.

why are you asking if you are unreasonable? Vote for who you like.

Ceto · 07/06/2017 22:45

Vote or whoever stands the best chance of defeating the Conservatives in your constituency.

Takeittotheboss · 07/06/2017 22:50

Vote for who ever will defeat the Tories in your constituency. Also why not try a vote swap, so you can spread the anti-tory effect?
Check out swapmyvote website.

Antigonads · 07/06/2017 22:55

Seriously?

Just vote how you want. Why start a thread?

Oh. Hang on ......

Lilmisskittykat · 07/06/2017 22:57

I don't get tactical voting... Vote for who you believe in ... Simple

TressiliansStone · 07/06/2017 22:59

If anyone hasn't posted their postal vote, you can drop it into a polling station on polling day - or get someone else to drop it in for you.

Seal it in the envelopes exactly as if you were mailing it.

BumBumPooBum · 07/06/2017 22:59

I am as left wing as they come, but I voted Lib Dem twice as they were the only party who could tackle the Tories in that area. Both times there was a swing away from the Tories and the Lib Dem got in. I felt delighted that my vote helped.

Now I live in a Labour area but the majority was reduced to few 1000s last time and the Tories are really throwing money at the constituency (7 Tory leaflets through the door!) so I am going to go leafleting tomorrow for Labour.

ShoesHaveSouls · 07/06/2017 23:10

OP - vote for who you want to - it's a decision between you and ballot box.

But I'm not against tactical voting.

I lived in the Guildford Constituency for the 2001 GE - and there was a concerted campaign to vote Libdem to get the Tories out. I voted Libdem, and we did indeed get the tories out - by a very narrow margin.

Notcontent · 07/06/2017 23:11

If JC gets into power things will definitely change quite quickly for many of us.... I, for one, will probably lose my job. Many others will too, as companies withdraw investment from the UK. The other thing that will happen is that anyone with a mortgage will really be stuffed, as interest rates go up. I could go on...

gunting · 07/06/2017 23:16

Well I don't know who to vote for, that's the point. Grin

I'm pissed off about Brexit but I'm also pissed off about my partner not being able to work because childcare costs more than any wage he's been offered.

I'm in the same boat. Best advice I've had today is to vote for what's most important to me and ignore the rest of the shenanigans. I've clarified it in my head as the Economy and Brexit - vote Conservative. NHS, Education, Social and Welfare - Labour. It helped and I will now be voting Labour after weeks of being confused.

NoLoveofMine · 07/06/2017 23:35

Similar to my constituency although the Labour majority here is under 300 (after they gained the seat from the Tories in 2015). We've had more than 10 Tory leaflets, 3 visits from Tories to our door including the candidate (swiftly dispatched by my mum with a polite but firm rant about the NHS) and the constituency has been visited by May, Johnson, Rudd and today Hammond. Seen so many Tory activists around as well but we were visited by Labour today making sure my parents would be going to vote.

I can't stand the Lib Dems but even Vince Cable and Sarah Olney have encouraged their voters to vote for the Labour incumbent here (though I've still seen 3 vote Lib Dem placards outside houses amongst the sea of Labour and Tory ones - more Labour from what I've seen).

SecretNutellaFix · 08/06/2017 00:08

Notcontent- they will be unlikely to withdraw from the UK- we are currently, even with the proposed higher taxes, the cheapest place to invest

SecretNutellaFix · 08/06/2017 00:08

In Europe.

Bluedabbadee · 08/06/2017 00:13

The free childcare will actually be very very difficult to find - because the govt will/do not pay the nurseries anywhere near enough of an hourly rate. Search through some threads on here from the past week that explain this. Please don't base your vote on free childcare!

MissEliza · 08/06/2017 00:15

Op 'I don't know who to vote for .....' cue a flurry of posters urging him/her to vote against the Torres. Hmm..,,

GraceGrape · 08/06/2017 00:17

I joined the Lib Dems a few months back because for me, Brexit it is the biggest issue and they are the only party campaigning to keep us in the single market. I have been impressed with some of the Labour manifesto and considered a vote swap with someone, but I know the local Lib Dem candidate and he's a good guy so I'm going to stick with him. Nobody but the Tories will win in my constituency but I think vote share for the Lib Dems is important to show opposition to a hard Brexit. Labour's position on this is not clear enough. I also think the penny on the income tax policy is more secure than Labour's taxation policy.

Tollygunge · 08/06/2017 07:24

Ok, I'll put it out here- JC will not be PM tomorrow BUT we don't want the filthy Tories having a landslide, although you probably do. Don't worry about the NHS/education/disability/people on benefits, God forbid your interest rate should go up at all.

gunting · 08/06/2017 07:36

If I could afford a mortgage I might be worried. Unfortunately I can't and probably won't for about 10 years at this rate.

So I'm going to be selfish and vote for the NHS and schools. Wink

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/06/2017 07:41

I wonder if the LibDems will cease to exist after this, with so many people turning away.

That would be terrible for centrists,

Tollygunge · 08/06/2017 07:42

That's not going to happen. The Lib Dems are on their way back. And we need them with Brexshit looming.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/06/2017 07:42

Hooray! An actual Labour voter finally admitting voting for selfish reasons. I didn't think they existed....

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/06/2017 07:43

We'll see Tolly hope you're right.

WeakAndUnstable · 08/06/2017 07:43

Check your postcode. This approach to tactical voting is supported by Labour, Lib Dems and Greens (see champions section).

Good luck OP.
