To think that if the SNP backed off we could oust the Tories?

Just this really.

I understand the Scots have their agenda and that's fine for them and I'm not having a pop at the Scottish, they've got their reasons.

It just feels like if they weren't there taking the Scottish Labour seats (assuming Scotland will go the same way it did in 2015) then there'd be a better chance we could oust the Tories.

I feel totally powerless that's all and I've been festering on this!

What exactly do you mean back off? Do you mean cease to exist? Im a SNP voter but Id consider voting Labour if we had Corbyn Labour. But we dont. We have Kezia Dugdale who'd stab Corbyn in the back first chance she gets.

LuxCoDespondent · 07/06/2017 18:46

Unfortunately the SNP are the only credible alternative to the Conservatives in Scotland. It's a bit of a weird situation, rather like UKIP being the only alternative in England would be, but it says more about the Scots' distaste for Labour and the UK as a whole than anything.

A vote for the SNP is a vote for independence. I'd be more worried about the anti-independence vote being diluted between the Tories, Labour and Lib Dems than I would be about the anti-Tory vote being diluted.

AberdeenAngusina · 07/06/2017 18:48

The SNP haven't destroyed Scottish Labour. Scottish Labour got complacent and lazy after years of no real Scottish opposition, and destroyed themselves. I quite like Kezia Dugdale, but she got the top job years before she was politically mature enough for it, because she was the best Labour had.

chipsandpeas · 07/06/2017 18:50

id vote labour tomorrow if i felt it would do any good but scottish labour are fucked up here

MorrisZapp · 07/06/2017 18:50

How do we 'have' Kezia Dugdale in a general election? We have Jeremy Corbyn, same as the rest of the UK electorate. If you like him, bloody vote for him. Kezia isn't on the ballot.

ItsNachoCheese · 07/06/2017 18:52

Ill be voting snp tomorrow. The thought of the tories gaining more seats here in scotland scares me

nina2b · 07/06/2017 18:57

Today 18:00 ballerinabelle

"..because Scottish Nationalism is a sickness that has infected Scotland."

Oh dear. The voice of reason.Hmm

TheNaze73 · 07/06/2017 19:00

If Labour hadn't taken Scotland & its people for granted for way too long, the SNP wouldn't have to back off.

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:00

Labour are a mess in Scotland. The end.
(Serves them right, too, for the years and years of taking the Scottish vote for granted.)

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:00

Snap

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:02

Sturgeon is the best politician in the UK.

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:02

Intelligent and wise people concede that fact.

BuzzBuzzBuzzLightyear · 07/06/2017 19:03

Hm. I'm voting Tory to oust the SNP.

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:03

All I can hear is the sound of Labour types whining.

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:04

It really is a most self-pitying sound.

lizzyj4 · 07/06/2017 19:14

Scottish labour is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. My main reason for voting tory is because they are the only ones who put up a decent opposition to the SNP (and in my constituency, they stand a really good chance of ousting them). The SNP have been incredibly divisive for Scotland. (And if you doubt me just go and look at some of the cybernatz comments on Twitter - any time of day or night. It's beyond nasty. )

beardymcbeardy · 07/06/2017 19:26

Lizzy, for every 'cybernatz' comment online there is a unionist troll spouting equally offensive shit, so please stop playing the victim. And by divisive, you mean Scottish votes have been offered an alternative to the Lab/Tory shitstorm that was previously that was offer. In that case im claiming Torys to be divisive, how dare they publicise their manifesto and divide the voting public. How very fucking dare they. Call that democracy. Oh wait....

nina2b · 07/06/2017 19:31

Good post.

frenchknitting · 07/06/2017 19:53

The Tories keep posting me letters explaining that "only the SNP can beat the conservatives in this seat". Which is handy, as I was tempted to vote labour. But they make a fair point - labour were a distant 4th last time, so SNP it is.

lizzyj4 · 07/06/2017 20:33

Beardymcbeardy - no there is absolutely no comparison. I wouldn't even describe what the cybernatz do as trolling, in many cases it spills over into outright harrassment. Something that the SNP consistently fail to rein in. They are completely beyond the pale (latest delights include cheering the Manchester bombings because the victims were English - and that's as well as the standard fare of harrassing anyone who dare contradict Dear Leader and boycotting Scottish businesses and organisations because the owner is a unionist/ tory - or has in some other way offended them - Tunnock's, Barrhead Travel, National Trust for Scotland, etc. (the NT had the termerity to ask for an SNP banner to be removed from one of their buildings because as a charity as they must be politically neutral).

I'm not 'playing the victim', I'm highlighting a serious issue which the SNP have actively ignored if not encouraged. It is not only online but increasingly in RL (e.g. SNP supporter recently filmed riding around after tory activists shouting abuse and telling them to get out of Scotland). Ignoring it or minimising it as just 'tit-for-tat' is about as blind as you can possibly be.

They are divisive because their sole aim is independence and they don't care how they get there or what it costs. Scotland hasn't yet had chance to recover from the nastiness of the last independence referendum (you know, the 'once in a lifetime one'), and now they're stoking the fires for another.

Didactylos · 07/06/2017 20:34

Im voting SNP to solve the West Lothian Question

Westray · 07/06/2017 20:38

You can't blame the SNP for being strong- you have to blame Labour for being weak.

Westray · 07/06/2017 20:46

My OH is a lifelong member of the Labour party. He voted no in the last Scottish referendum.

He will be voting SNP tomorrow.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 07/06/2017 20:49

We need the SNP because NS is the puppet mistress in the Coalition of Chaos.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/06/2017 20:53

Labour are dead in Scotland at the moment.

Your realistic choice is either Tory or SNP, and in many places even the Tories don't really have a chance.
