To not want my human rights torn up?

I thought we weren't going to let them change the way we live?

'You seem to think that there are one set of human rights for imams, radical Islamists etc and another set for you and the rest of us. '

Well that's the point isn't it. TM can't have a different set of human rights for radicals, or else people complain they are being unfairly targeted. By applying the same rules to us all surely the lefties should be reassured its all fair.

You think when it comes to the crunch, they won't crack down on legitimate protest??!

How about this then??

"I'll leave you to guess who scrapped them. Yup, you got it in one."

High Court judges.

They were repeatedly ruled illegal. If you want them, you have to change the law. Which kind of takes us back to what May is proposing.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 07/06/2017 09:04

This hard left attitude to protecting evil peoples rights has gone on for to long. Lets chuck them out of the country and let them appeal from abroad. I dont see why we should spend a decade paying them benefits to preach their hatred here.

BertrandRussell · 07/06/2017 09:05

"This hard left attitude to protecting evil peoples rights has gone on for to long. Lets chuck them out of the country and let them appeal from abroad. I dont see why we should spend a decade paying them benefits to preach their hatred here"

Where are you going to chuck them to?

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 09:06

When a service is underfunded/propped up by private contractos, mistakes are made.

If you want effective stops at airports, start campaigning for TM to reinstate the funding she cut so they can do their jobs properly.

Start campaigning for private contractors, who often do a half arsed job for more money to be chucked out of our public services, and the money we pay them put back into man power.

TM and AR have directly contributed to the cuts that allow this sort of thing to happen.

Neutrogena · 07/06/2017 09:06

I like a right to a fair trial. That's one of my favourite rights.

If people want the HRA torn up, I guess they would be happy for them or their family to be locked up indefinitely for no reason?

OohMavis · 07/06/2017 09:06

This hard left attitude to protecting evil peoples rights has gone on for to long.

We're protecting OUR rights, YOUR rights, your CHILDREN'S rights. ffs.

When will people realise that allowing anyone access to our human rights with a cleaver is not going to end well for anyone? So shortsighted. So naive.

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 09:06

It's about power not terrorism.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 09:07

What did we do here before the HRA?

seafoodeatit · 07/06/2017 09:07

YANBU, human rights are a basic principle which every free society needs to function, the whole point is that they cannot be taken away.

Remember that it's been accepted that they are -

Universal: they belong to all of us, to everybody in the world
Inalienable: they cannot be taken away from us
Indivisible and interdependent: governments should not be able to pick and choose which are respected

We already have laws on terrorism and acts of violence, violating human rights might make it easier but it won't make it right or tolerable.

SuperBeagle · 07/06/2017 09:07

Side note: Pastor Martin Niemoller did not die in a concentration camp. Confused

Believeitornot · 07/06/2017 09:09

As far as I can tell, the information coming out seems to be that the police and security services missed things or didn't have the resources to check leads.

What has that to do with human rights? It's everything to do with not having enough resources to do the job properly with the powers already in place.

Hillingdon · 07/06/2017 09:09

I am staggered by the amount of people thinking the world is coming to an end if we change SOME human rights. I have no interest in protecting the human rights of terrorists.

JaneEyre is correct. PC gone mad.

I very much welcome a review of human rights for terrorist acts.

Addressing the hand wringing liberals - what would you do when at every turn May was stopped from deporting the hate preachers?

Would you like them around your children, next to you in the shops or is it OK as long as they are nowhere near you.

The human rights act review is long overdue. I think May will win some votes because of this. See that JC wont comment on Diane Abbott. That could lose him some seats. No one in their right mind would want her in charge of security. That ITV interview was a car crash. She clearly hadn't read the report or if she had forgotten what it said.

And some want this women as HS?? That is what you will get if you vote Labour.

RoseAndRose · 07/06/2017 09:09

"What did we do here before the HRA?"

Relied on our UN treaty obligations.

Which will still be in place

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 09:09

What did we do here before the HRA?

This is as much an attack on the rule of law as it is a cover for years of resource cuts.

OohMavis · 07/06/2017 09:10

If opponents of the HRA were as vociferously opposed to police and security cuts, what progress we could make.

RoseAndRose · 07/06/2017 09:10

www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/

It's been in force since 1948

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 09:11

I don't remember people being hauled away for thought crimes or unable to live their family lives etc before 1998.

Calm down. This is Britain. The British human rights act that would follow would be drafted by pretty much the same lawyers and would contain most of the same stuff.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 09:12

WalkingOnLeg0

Are you going to answer any of the point I made, or are you just gonna keep spouting about lefties??

If you want a proper grown up debate then engage with the very reasonable points people have made, and answer them without childish name calling.

For a start, heres the ones I addressed to you upthread...

If you want to protect your kids, then start campaigning for the thousands of police cut by the Tories to be reinstated.

Start campaigning for the funding to be put back into community policing (proven to work)

Start campaigning for young peoples mental health services to be better funded (proven to work by getting in there early)

Campaign for better educational funding, and for tighter regs around schools.

Campaign for private contractors, who do a half assed job, and waste a lot of taxpayers money to be kicked out of the security services

Campaign for more boots on the ground at ports and airports

What will not protect your, and mine kids, is the taking away of rights they will need in the future.

Care to rebuff any of those points??

mimishimmi · 07/06/2017 09:14

to an end if we change SOME human rights. I have no interest in protecting the human rights of terrorists

Yeah, we know, which is why so many of our communities have been decimated in the past and the West is supposedly having all these demographic problems because you've knocked so many of us off on the pretext of being terrorists.

And now you want to do it again ...

EleanorRigbysNeice · 07/06/2017 09:15

Im NOT a Theresa May supporter and will not be voting for them but.... It IS ridiculous that we can allow hate preaching and (lookalike) IS black flags to be waved in our streets. That groups of people can shout openly about our infidel status and hiw we will be slaughtered in the streets if we do not accept Allah. That's not freedom of speech. That's hatred. And to say that a hate preacher cannot be returned to their country of origin as they may be in danger themselves and have their own Human Rights compromised, is utterly ludicrous. We cannot continue to have people who came to the UK to seek refuge (as the Manchester bomber's family did) hating us and moving on to massacreing innocent people in our cities.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 09:15

If opponents of the HRA were as vociferously opposed to police and security cuts, what progress we could make.

^^^^ a million times this, ffs.

Not one person who's having a go at the lefty sympathisers has said anything about the MASSIVE CUTS enacted by TM and Rudd - that have led directly to this sort of thing.

It is not the "lefties" who need to wake up- it's the people who think taking away their himan rights will magically make things better, while TM and co merrily strip the very things that protect us down to nothing/ or sell them to private contractors.

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 09:16

lana

If you storm the House of Parliament these days you are likely to get shot and serve you right.

Mumsnut · 07/06/2017 09:17

Storming the House of Commons is hardly legitimate protest, surely?
