I work in a bank and we are sponsored to study a v demanding qualification - everyone does exams in batches and no exceptions. Colleague has asked for mitigating circs and reduced workload due to withdrawal from long term meds. I think for a mental health thing... they came off the meds recently and I can't help but feel it's self inflicted and they shouldn't get extra support - we are sacked if we fail too.

Well aren't you a fucking peach.

Pull your head out your arse and get on with your own work.

Allthewaves · 06/06/2017 21:30

Goady much

Perhaps he has no choice but to come off the meds due to his Dr telling him he needs too. Ffs

AnnetteCurtains · 06/06/2017 21:30

You should mind your own business
Do you really think that their dr would recommend it / support them , if it wasn't best for them
Dear god , we live in a strange world .............

Crunchymum · 06/06/2017 21:33

Taking aside all the goady shit, you get sacked if you fail???? Shock

happypoobum · 06/06/2017 21:33

So you don't know what your colleague takes the meds for, why they may have been advised to come off them, or what any of the impacts of all this are, but you still have a problem with it?

Don't you sound delightful?

Ncedforthis · 06/06/2017 21:34

What an ignorant twat you sound.

I came off my meds because they were making me suicidal...I was quite literally daysfrom taking my own life when I knew I had to come off them....should I have stayed on them incase it was inconvenient to a colleague?!

Jesus Christ

CrochetBelle · 06/06/2017 21:34

Butt the fuck out yeah?

HoldBackTheRain · 06/06/2017 21:35

So if colleague had something like cancer and the drugs were making them sick, would that be an acceptable reason to you? Because it doesn't matter what their condition is, and it's none of your business. I actually hope you're a troll (but I don't think you are) because this is too shitty for words.

Botanicbaby · 06/06/2017 21:37

Wow. Your colleagues mitigating circumstances are absolutely none if your business.YABU.

Concentrate on yourself and please don't pass judgement on others. "Self-inflicted" indeed. Are you medically trained? Hmm

RandomMess · 06/06/2017 21:37

Can't believe how ignorant you are being!

May not be his choice, may have been doing gradual withdrawal for months and this is the last bit.

impossibledreams · 06/06/2017 21:38

Crunchymum

This is normal for a number of professional qualifications - for mine, there was a 'bad fail' threshold so below that was termination of contract. Above 'bad fail' but not a pass allowed you a result at your own cost.

SoupDragon · 06/06/2017 21:39

Are you a doctor, OP?

PovertyPain · 06/06/2017 21:40

I've came of meds because they were making me suicidal.

I've also came of because I couldn't keep awake on the meds. I'm very sensitive to antidepressant side effects.

I had to stop antidepressants shortly after my husband died, because of the horrific, night time auditory and visual hallucinations.

I could go on, but I think you should get the message by now. 😒

Italiangreyhound · 06/06/2017 21:42

OP unless you are a medical practitioner, and in fact the medical practitioner for the colleague, I think it is none of your business.

Try not to concern yourself, concentrate on your own health and your own work.

Thanks
SaucyJack · 06/06/2017 21:43

You also need to bear in mind that they may have decided to stop taking their meds because they're becoming unwell- and not because it's in their medical interests.

It's quite common with people with certain conditions to think they're getting better- when actually they're starting a manic episode.

babsjonhson · 06/06/2017 21:44

You don't even
Know what the medication is or why they're coming off of it.
You sound like a really lovely person to work with.

JumpingJellybeanz · 06/06/2017 21:45
Shock
Andrewofgg · 06/06/2017 21:48

Forgive me for asking but what colour are your flame-proof undies?

putdownyourphone · 06/06/2017 21:48

What business of yours is it that they came off their meds? Maybe they were told to, maybe they were having horrendous side effects.

Does it have any impact on you if they delay their qualification? I expect not. Grow a heart.

putdownyourphone · 06/06/2017 21:49

Also, if they see this and can put you, you'll probably be fired.

putdownyourphone · 06/06/2017 21:49

*out

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 06/06/2017 21:50

(Hoping this isn't real) so your colleague getting some special consideration isn't disadvantaging you in any way? And you want them to risk failing and then getting sacked because you think they made the wrong decision about when to come off medication.
Does that not make you a bit of a mean-spirited dick?

BewareOfDragons · 06/06/2017 21:50

Honestly?

You don't sound like a very nice person.

Why wouldn't someone prioritize their health above an exam and a job?! Both of which can be adjusted; one's health cannot.

Seriously. You sound truly unlikeable.

harderandharder2breathe · 06/06/2017 21:50

YABU

I've come off ADs under doctors supervision because they were no longer effective so I needed to wean off then start something new. I was a mess to the point of being signed off work. In no way was it self inflicted.

BeeThirtythree · 06/06/2017 21:52

Withdrawal from medication, especially if it is MH medication usually takes time and has side effects. I think although before an important exam may not seem the right time to start the withdrawal process, maybe they did not want to 'suffer' with the side effects of taking the medication, when doing the exams...medications often slow us down, even create anxiety.Even the same medication will cause different effects in people.
Maybe mention you are also taking the MH medication to a manager to see if that impacts your exam support?
